Will Joe Throw 43 Times Again At Sd?

50 posts in this topic

We will run a lot more than we will throw. We wanna make sure we dont turn the ball over and that we run down teh clock.

I say Joe only has around 33 passes this week... Cam will definitely mix it up a bit more. Of course, should we get ahead early (or behind) it will be a determining factor in which way the offense will go.

We'll absolutely throw the ball around 35 or so times against SD. They blitz a ton, so I think we'll see a lot of short, quick passes and screens, probably not as many deep passes.

lmao....and this is why I don't follow the sheep! Sheep are stupid, filthy animals

But yeah, football 101 tells you that's how you attack an aggressive rush..."Throw the ball where they ain't"

Don't underestimate their Cornerbacks.. Cromartie is fast and can shutdown..
I hope that at the end of the day Ravens are the ones running the clock out.

i agree with Mhead66

i expect us to open up with runs, ray rice coming off a 100 yrd game.. open up that play action for flacco. if he gets half the time he had against the cheifs our offense will roll

Considering a couple SD D lineman probably won't be playing I'd say its a safe bet that we will be running more than throwing. Definately love how we are now going to be forcing teams to respect the pass after last game.

I think that Cam wanted Joe to get his feet wet against a poor KC defense. The Ravens (according to the experts) moved away from the run. I do not forsee this as permanent, but rather an attempt to get JOe more comfortable passing in his 2nd year. Next week I see A LOT more carries for Rice and co. Thoughts?

Of course this is contingent upon how the game is going. If (god forbid) the Chargers jump ahed by 21 points, then obviously the passing game is going to have to be relied upon.

The Chargers know Cam inside out and this guy is a loser. Lewis is so old he uses geritol instead of gatoraid. It doesn't matter whether you guys try to run or pass your going down hard. Rivers will throw for 4 touchdowns, and the Ravens will have a long quiet flight home. Go CHAAAAARGERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope so.
If Flacco throws that much against the Chargers it means your running game is not going anywhere. But I suspect you will have at least some success on the ground and will be much more balanced. When Cam was here as OC, he was much more of a run first, pass second kind of guy. Of course that was under the ultimate conservative Marty S, and LT was in his prime.

I have a lot of respect for Camero---great OC. He will have a good game plan.

Here is how I see the game:
Baltimore will run and the Bolts will pass. If your D keeps the SD passing game in check, we're done. If not, then the Ravens will have to open up to keep up. At that point it may be too late. If SD gets ahead by 10 or more at any point, the Q will be going crazy. Will be very difficult at that point for Flacco and company to air it out the way they would need to to catch up.

If their receivers can beat our cornerbacks then they will win the game...It is as simple as that....
Not so simple I think. I'm pretty confident in our receivers. We can create enough mismatches on coverage to be successful. Not sure that is the point so much as can our Oline protect Rivers long enough for him to get rid of the ball?

I don't think SD can afford to get into a dogfight with the Ravens. Plays too much to Baltimore's strengths. The Bolts have big play capability and must take advantage of that apsect to win. If Rivers can get any sort of protection, then he WILL find receivers. If not? Then it will be a looong day at the Q.

If JaMarcus Russell can pass all over the Chargers with the Raiders,I have no doubts that Flacco can do the same.
Not sure I'd say that 12/30 for 208 1TD and 2INT is exactly called "pass[ing] all over the Chargers" but hey if that's what you saw, then cool. That is a whopping 40% completion % and a QB rating of 47.6 by the way.

On the other hand, Russell is by far the worst starting QB in the league IMO (yes that includes rookies like Stafford and Sanchez).

So maybe the whole argument is a wash.

We'll see on Sunday.

Righto. And it's not so much the receivers beating our cornerbacks. That won't happen, our guys are super speedy. But Jackson and Gates are big physical receivers, now that plays against our favor. Jackson one-on-one with Foxworth. I like Jackson's chances. We aren't talking Santana Moss here. We're talking 6-5.

But that is only part of the equation. It really depends on whether we can get pressure on Rivers or not. We need to regulate them to screen and slant passes. And if I were the Chargers. I'd be working on these facets of the passing games. Elaborate screens. etc. Because they will come in handy against us if we can get effective pressure.

But if our pressure fails. Then Rivers can throw to these big receivers and do some damage.

So c'mon Suggs. Have a career day!

I was thinking the same thing, lol.....

Merriman looks like he's lost a lot of explosion. Still not a guy I want to see coming for my head, but our LT is quite athletic and strong in pass protection, so that should be an interesting match up to watch.
This may just be me being a homer, but I think that if we keep Merriman at bay, Mason will give Jammer hell all game. On the flip side of that, I think Cromartie will ensure Clayton's name won't come up much, so hopefully Heap can have a repeat performance this week.
Dammit it's only Thursday :(

Yeah, I'm not quite sure yet what to make of Merriman either. He does not look right. Most likely he is still getting his rhythem back while also learning to trust his knee. More mental than physical I think. It may be too early this season to see what is he is really capable of again, but one can always hope.

Nicely put, my friend. I agree for most part, it's going to be interesting matchup.
That's why the game plan should be RUN, RUN and maybe RUN again. The key to winning this game is control the clock, time of possesion and turnovers. I'm little concerned about our CB's matching their WR's. They have to play better than against K.C., period. Our D-line have 2 put pressure on Rivers. Our offense will be fine, I expect great game from Heap and Rice. And I also think it's time to use JUMBO package and use it a lot. And my biggest concern is kicker Hauschka,
dammit, now we have to score touchdowns, because we can't rely on the damn kicker 2 kick the field goals, but I love it !!!!!

Let's give our new kicker some time. The kid's replacing a HOF on a team that expects a lot from everyone, rookie or not, so I'm sure he still is trying to get comfortable and clear his head. I think he'll be fine.

I don't think he will be required to, we have a greater advantage in the running game. Don't sleep on the Chargers cornerbacks at all - Cromartie and Jammer are very talented.
