You Pick 'em

99 posts in this topic

This was being talked about in the "My Week 1 Picks" thread, but no one has made one yet. I thought it was a good idea, sorry if I'm stepping on any toes, especially ZIBBY28, since he originally stated the idea.

Anyways, the idea for those who do need it stated is, for each week of the regular season, and eventual post season, pick the winner of each game. Easy, or is it? If enough people participate, we'll have someone as the "BR.com You Pick 'Em Champion". Just keep your record in your signature to partake. You have until sunday morning to change your pick. Saturday night is your last opportunity. If you wish to change your pick, just edit your post. Multiple posts for picks of the same week will be too confusing.

Good Luck everyone!

Anyways, just to recap from last week, since there was no topic like this last time. My picks were:

Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers: Tennessee
Miami Dolphins At Atlanta Falcons: Atlanta
Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens: Baltimore
Philadelphia Eagles at Carolina Panthers: Philadelphia
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals: Cincinnati
Minnesota Vikings at Cleveland Browns: Minnesota
New York Jets at Houston Texans: Houston
Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts: Indianapolis
Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints: New Orleans
Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dallas
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals: Arizona
Washington Redskins at New York Giants: New York
St. Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks: Seattle
Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers: Chicago
Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots: New England
San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders: San Diego

Week One Record: 11-5

San Fran really surprised me, and it seems I underestimated Denver *shrugs* As for Chicago...well, I did NOT see Cutler's horrid performance coming at all.

And without further ado... my picks for week 2:

Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans: Tennessee
New Orleans Saints at Philadelphia Eagles: New Orleans
Arizona Cardinals at Jacksonville Jaguars: Arizona
Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs: Oakland
Cincinnati Bengals at Green Bay Packers: Green Bay
Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions: Minnesota
St. Louis Rams at Washington Redskins: Washington
New England Patriots at New York Jets: New England
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons: Atlanta
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Buffalo Bills: Buffalo
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers: Seattle
Baltimore Ravens at San Diego Chargers: Baltimore
Pittsburgh Steelers at Chicago Bears: Pittsburgh
Cleveland Browns at Denver Broncos: Denver
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys: New York
Indianapolis Colts at Miami Dolphins: Indianapolis

I'm kind of iffy on the TB/BUF, NYG/DAL, and OAK/KC games. After Buffalo's performance against New England, it seems I overlooked them alot. Same goes for Oakland.

Edited: Added additional information that was discussed earlier here. If only to make it easy for people who haven't picked yet

Week 2:
Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans: Tennessee
New Orleans Saints at Philadelphia Eagles: Philadelphia
Arizona Cardinals at Jacksonville Jaguars: Arizona
Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs: Kansas City
Cincinnati Bengals at Green Bay Packers: Green Bay
Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions: Minnesota
St. Louis Rams at Washington Redskins: Washington
New England Patriots at New York Jets: New England
Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons: Atlanta
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Buffalo Bills: Buffalo
Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers: Seattle
Baltimore Ravens at San Diego Chargers: Baltimore
Pittsburgh Steelers at Chicago Bears: Pittsburgh
Cleveland Browns at Denver Broncos: Denver
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys: New York
Indianapolis Colts at Miami Dolphins: Indianapolis

I'm really waffling on the Philly game, especially if McNabb doesn't play.

Hey, we can give picks for last week? Okay, I got them all right! LOL.

Actually, I probably would have picked:
Week 1:
Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers: Pittsburgh
Miami Dolphins At Atlanta Falcons: actually not sure who I would have picked here, so I'll give myself a "wrong answer" for this one x
Kansas City Chiefs at Baltimore Ravens: Baltimore
Philadelphia Eagles at Carolina Panthers: Philadelphia
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals: Denver
Minnesota Vikings at Cleveland Browns: Minnesota
New York Jets at Houston Texans: Houston x
Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts: Indianapolis
Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints: New Orleans
Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dallas
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals: Arizona x
Washington Redskins at New York Giants: New York
St. Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks: Seattle
Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers: Green Bay
Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots: New England
San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders: San Diego

There weren't many surprises [between who I thought would win because they are probably a better team and who I thought would win because I didn't want them to], so 13-3 isn't really as good as it sounds.

Haha, I had already had my picks for week 1 up on my MySpace Blog, so I figured why not post 'em, just for reference, if nothing else. I had really expected Cutlter to perform, and perform well at Green Bay. But then again, who saw a 4 pick game coming? As for the Denver/Cincinnati game, neither team was good. It was just a game of who played, well, "less bad". So that game was such a toss up.

I'm not buying the hype yet about the Bengals, so I probably would have picked Denver and I thought Green Bay would be better. But then, my list is pretty invalid since it was all done in hindsight. I just don't remember being surprised at who won any of the games this weekend [although there was some surprise at who had a chance to win some games and then fell short].

Oh, I don't buy the Bungels hype either. I just think Denver isn't not a very good team after all the turmoil and issues that went on during the off season, not to mention Orton is just not a very good quarterback. And I thought Green Bay would be good this season (I predicted CHI going 11-5 and GB going 10-6, this was all predicted after Preseason and before regular season, so I knew things would change), but I thought Chicago would be better. Well, Urlacher being one and done for the season, if Cutler continues to struggle, I may have been very, very wrong on Chicago.

I'm unsure about the Ravens @ Chargers game. Since I'm not sure, blind homerism is as good a reason as any. :P
Those games between [s]lousy[/s] lacking teams (Donks v Browns/Buccs v Bills etc) are tough to pick as well.

I have a feeling about this one. Colts were less than spectacular and they lost Gonzalez. I look for Miami (a Parcells product) to bounce back and pull the upset.

I really do like that idea. So if you want in, keep you record in your sig, and since this started a week late, only week two through the Superbowl count (obviously). Zibby also brought up a good point, you have up until sunday (i.e. Saturday night is the last opportunity) to update/change your picks. Just make sure to edit instead of making a new post :P

I forgot about Gonzalez being out, but I've counted against Indy before in situation where it looks like a good option, and Manning's proved me wrong. So it's (sadly) going to be hard for me to switch to Miami. As for the Eagles, if McNabb doesn't play, I don't know how the Eagles offense will play. I know they have Garcia, but still. Even if they do manage to play well, Brees has been an absolute animal, coming out of a stellar season to dominate in the season opener..even if it was the Lions.

I'm kind of keeping track in addition to any records in people's signatures.

Yup, just for the fun of it. You have until saturday night to make 'em :) I just thought it would be interesting and something fun to do. Plus, it gives me (personally) a reason to show more interest in whatever games are on TV, since I have to see if my picks were right or not :P

Warden, the Jets over Pats? I guess the Jets did look good defensively. BTW Cutler gives the fans at Soilder field a welcoming present. A win vs the superbowl champs.

By my calculations, there are only five games that everyone agrees on [but I just have a crude stroke tally right now, so there could be a mistake]. [Titans, Packers, Vikings, Redskins, Steelers - crap, can't even get the Ravens unanimous on their own board!] Funny that the Redskins are unanimous to win, but the much-vaulted Patriots and Colts aren't. [yeah, I know it's because of who they are playing, I just found it interesting.]

Demon, are you going to chart out how many people picked which team? Could be interesting.

edited: PuRock posted while I was typing, so we're down to 3 teams: Packers, Vikings, and Redskins. [Are you just trying to be contrary, PuRock? You knocked two teams out! haha. Just kidding.]

Yup, I planned on waiting until kick off to start tallying. Who knows who might change their minds. I'll even talk like Chris Berman while I'm doing it. "And we're alllll on the Steelers." lol

And to be fair, at least of those Charger picks was a Steeler fan :P I'm looking at you Warden haha.

I think the Pats are going to struggle on defense and up front on the o-line.

No way da Bears upset my Steelers.

If it makes you feel any better, I was waffling back and forth on that pick.
I just think that the maring between their defense and your offense is greater than the other way around. I'm giving them the slight edge in addition their being home. Nothing personal I assure you.

Haha, I know. I'm not 100% certain either on that pick. Honestly, I think we can and will hold them in check. The only dangerous element for them against us is Sproles on the return. It could be a long day for us if our special teams slacks :\
