What Does "set Your Status" Mean?

Sorry for the dumb question - I see I have not "Set my status" in my profile. What exactly does that mean? Do I type something in there? I didn't see a drop-down list of options or anything. TIA.

It's a status update like you see on Facebook.

Example. "I'm sitting on my couch watching football and thinking about a fried Twinkie"

And then you hope that everybody is looking at what you write and that they give a damn.
