kind of an odd first post... been reading the boards for about a year

san diego is not close to oakland at all, about 500 miles.

Fixed. Brain Lapse.
Look's like I was getting my San's confused. San Francisco is close to Oakland not San Diego.

Special teams have got to tighten up on both sides of the ball.

Secure the punts, make field goals, and win the battle of field position!

The offense should be fine as Cam Cameron has done nothing but great things for sparking this offense and get it clicking. Flacco is calm, poised, and surprisingly accurate for the most part.

The only thing that worries me about the game is our pass defense. If they can shut that down I know they will have Sproles contained. It will be a much tougher game than most of you think but they certainly have a shot.

Don't let Week 1 stats fool you. It all comes down to breaking down the strengths and weaknesses.

Any given Sunday, yada yada yada....

With the mandatory drivel now out of the way, truth is I think we cruise through most of this game, have a few rough spots along the way, but in the end we will be 2-0 to start the year. So I agree this one is in the books if we do what we're supposed to do.
Thats the key. If we do what we're supposed to do meaning; Score and finish the game

Suggs doesn't put up big numbers because he is consistently doubled; there were two guys on Sizzle throughout the entire KC game.

Ummm I don't want to make a ridiculously bold prediction, but consider this:

Chargers defense was physically outmanned by the Raiders, every few plays a defensive player would fall down and get hurt, and IMO we are a lot more physical than the Raiders, but at the same time we can't come out expecting to win, we need to play with as much, or even more, urgency than the Raiders were playing with

Chargers Run D looked awful and was gettin run over by McFadden and Bush (where was Fargas?)
Pass defense left a LOT of people wide open, yet the inaccuracy of JaMarcus Russell made the pass D look alot better than it actually was. An accurate QB like Flacco will complete those throws.

Chargers OL is hurt. Ravens DL is....the BEST!!! nuff said

Chargers did not seem to generate much pass rush...

The only thing im concerned about is Gates and Sproles, our run D should shut em down pretty well and our pass D needs to get some rush otherwise Philip will pick us apart. Im sure we have a great gameplan goin into this game. I got tickets to this game and am sitting field level. gonna be the ONLY ONE WITH A FLACCO JERSEY ON!!!! HOLLA

I can't see any of the Ravens expecting an automatic win here. We are going into San Diego with a purpose. To prove all the critics and talking heads wrong. They also have this goal that they know can be achieved this year, the Superbowl.

I expect the Ravens to come out a lot more physical than last game. Because San Diego is being touted as a juggernaut and possible Superbowl winner. This will be the first opportunity that the Ravens can really turn some heads.

The Ravens know, to be the best, they will have to beat the best.

JaMarcus's accuracy is horrible. He had chances to pick that team apart too. San Diego got gifts from him last night. Fargas is injured, might not be back next week as well.

I'd be more impressed if you would be the only one at the Oakland game in a Flacco jersey, field level.

After Evaluating last nights games, I really believe the Ravens could go out on the road and beat San Diego and possibly NE. San Diego has a hurt offensive line, they can't stop the run, and if they made McFadden and Bush look that good I can't imagine the day Rice and McGahee could have. Like one person has said, the Raiders defensive line gave them fits but the Ravens defensive line is alot more aggressive meaning the defense could have a big game. The Raiders should be going into the KC game this week 1-0. The Louis Murphy TD that was tooken away from Oakland makes it a final score of 27-24 Oakland. I can't figure out how they could take it away when he had full possession of the ball, the ball was coming lose because he was hit. The Refs gave that win to the Chargers. Ravens should be facing an 0-1 Chargers not an 1-0 Chargers. The keys to this game will be getting the running game going, like I explained in the Bal-KC thread, keeping Rivers off the field will be key regardless of how well the Raiders got to him. In the 4th Quarter The Ravens need to run the clock and either give Rivers no time or just 10 seconds to mount a comeback.

Well I wouldn't exactly count McFadden and Bush out of anything. They are very good runningbacks, and as McFadden is a former 1st rounder, hes got wonders going for him. But yeah i still think Rice and McGahee can have a nice duo if the game looked like what it did last week.

But either way this will be the first real test for Joe Flacco, to see where he is vs a contender's standpiont, how he would do against more playoff-bound teams. I would think the gameplan is to not force anything downfield and keeping it simple, going to todd heap more often than not this game. he should be a deciding factor.

This is kind of off-topic but do you know what's sad. The San Diego Fan Base.

Playing in San Diego doesn't scare me because of the atmosphere. Their fans are pathetic. They'll be a lot of Ravens fans in there. It's the west coast traveling that is a hindrance.
Damn, they're likely going to have a blackout in their season opener; I didn't know they were that bad.

The Chargers looked soft up front on both sides of the ball and the oline and Dlines might just be the srength of the Ravens team.

As poor as the Chargers looked defending the run, I think Cam would be smart to allow Flacco to come out throwing.

The reason I say this is because the SD defense will be geared up to stop our run, to prove they can. So I expect to see them stack the box. Let Flacco run a few play actions and take advantage of a potentially over agressive D and then start gashing them with the 3 headed monster.

The LBs and Safeties really struggled to stop Zach Miller. So Heap could have a really big day again. Once the run game starts picking up chucks of yardage, Clayton should be able to get behind the secondary.

As poor as SD looked Monday, this game should still be a tough one.

At the same time the SD crowd has been known to boo Rivers if things don't go well early. So if the Ravens could jump out to a early lead and put pressure on that offense we might see a few turnover and hear some booes.

Haushcka will need to put his KOs in the Endzone to try and slow down Sproles a bit.

All in all this should be a really good test for our Ravens. To go on the road and against a SuperBowl contender and win would wet us up nicely.

A warning before Sunday. Raven fans I just wanna warning before hand, after we win this game get ready to hear the question of "What is wrong with the Chargers", instead of "How impressive are the Ravens"? But it will be cool we don't need the National attention right now.

It seems contradictory to me. If their line seems soft, then you should pound them early and often so by the 4th we can either continue to run or have all day to pass.

I think by passing more last game we have made it hard for the chargers to predict what is comming sunday.

PuRock provided a link already, and I also ready somewhere that they were 2,500 short of a sellout, and I doubt all those tickets go within the next week.

That is really sad on San Diego's part, the economy be damned.

I believe we have to worry more about Darren Sproles than LT. He is much more explosive. Phillip Rivers has definitely taken over and the Chargers is his team. He is the biggest threat to us.

Do this against Minnesota, Green Bay and Pittsburgh and we can talk.

Lets just set it straight before Sunday.

-The game will most likely be blacked out because of SD being such a tourist town. (I hate the poor number of true fans as much as anyone else)- you should be able to watch it as long as you don't live within 400mi of SD.

-your D-line will dominate for 3 quarters.

-Our run game will put up less than 125 yards.

-Rivers will get sacked 2-3 times and throw a pick or two.

-Willis and Ray will run over our D for the first half.

But...

We have THE BEST 4th quarter QB in the league, 2 of the top 5 dangerous runners in space, THE BEST TE in the league and though the secondary can be suspect and give up yards- are very capable of the pick-6.

So, your have exactly 3 quarters to shut us out. If by the 4th you're not protecting a 10 point lead, you should really be worried.

This is not going to be a pretty game. But the one thing the Chargers are capable of is that they can adapt to their opponents game. We've played the toughest Defenses heads up before. I don't think anything was tougher than the 07 Chargers-Titans OT playoff game.
