I think that Harbs should let Webb get some reps on kick returns and defense, especially over Chris Carr. Carr struggled in returning today, but I'm not saying Carr sucks and we should bench him for the season or whatever, just think we should let Webb get some reps as well. Especially because we had Ed Reed return a punt today, we can't risk him on stuff like that. Also, Webb looked good in coverage in preseason so I'd rather have him get reps on D than Carr who is a returner who just happens to play defense every now and again.

Most deff. I think webb will do some good. Carr looks like he was in slow mo today.

You know Foster had a Solid punt return for like 20-30 yards against the Jets in preseason. I really thought he would make the team for that purpose, not just as a WR. kinda sucks, and i DONT like Reed being back there for punt returns..... at all.

I have to agree with you. I don't remember one thing so far Carr did that impressed me. All the way through the pre-season up until yesterdays game I kept expecting something good. All we get are either, muffed punts, calling for a fair catch with no defender near him, or running sidways on returns and gaining nothing. Unfortunately I don't think Webb is ready at this point to take over. I say let Ed Reed handle more of them.

I think the plan is to eventually switch to Webb. He's probably getting a lot of reps in practice.

But Harbs isn't going to let him loose as a KR until he's confident that Webb's improves the turnover matter. We do not need anymore crucial turnovers. Imagine if Carr or Webb didn't call for a fair catch, got hit, fumbled and it led to a KC Touchdown yesterday.

First things first. Protect the ball. Carr has the advantage in this department. Next thing is then advancing the ball. So once Webb can gain Harbs confidence in protecting the ball, he should be able to beat Carr out in the next aspect.

I hope you're kidding. I felt sick to my stomach seeing Reed back there returning a punt in the FIRST GAME. I was in the bar yelling, "slide, go down, run out of bounds!"

Who's misses Figurs now?! (I do)

I felt the same about Reed. I want him as a healthy safety, not an injured punt returner. But seeing him out there, made me guess that he's feeling great. Which is a good sign.

I don't miss Figurs one bit. Figurs had a whole season and did nil. Carr only played in one game. Plus we have Webb ready to go once he gains Harbs confidence back in the turnover department.

I wasn't kidding. We all know with Ed there is a little something extra with the phrase "we don't want to get our star hurt on special teams". Still, I see stars on other teams like Desean Jackson and Cortland Finnegan returning kicks for other teams. If Ed can protect himself when he's flying around on defense where guys could come from anywhere to lay him out, he should be able to protect himself from guys coming right at him.

Good idea but Webb does not seem to know when to fair catch or when not to catch while fielding punts. He may be able to do Kick return but he needs to work on his punt return skills. Carr was not that great but he did not put the ball on the ground.

I agree with most of the posters here, but it's only been 1 game. Also, remember Carr isn't a game-breaker as a return man, he's solid, consistent and reliable. You don't bring him in when you need a homerun hitter to offset the fact that you're lacking in other areas of your football team. You bring him in when you have a dominant defense, an up-and-coming offense and you just want solid returns and no mistakes in the return game. Yes, he did a little more dancing than I've seen in the past, but Harbs will straighten that out, just don't expect Sproles/Hester back there, that's not Carr's style.

Carr has been average. He hasn't done bad, but he is getting paid to be a return guy and when he is in coverage it isn't pretty. I wouldn't mind giving the responsibility to Webb. If we are talking about missing people, I miss Leonhard because of how he did on the returns. He was deadly. I think Carr needs to step it up a little though. It would be cool to see Webb get some returns though.

I'm pretty sure that Carr was in the top 10 in both kick and punt returns last year (correct me if I'm wrong). I agree, it's only been one game, let's give him some more chances.

Also, lets not forget the job KC's punter/ST did. The punter was on the money most of the day and the one time where Carr called a fair catch, the sun came thru slight cloud coverage all of the sudden ( I was at the game and noticed it at the very moment it happend). I think he didn't see the ball until the last minute, so if that was the case it was a decoy to avoid contact and maybe get a touchback. I feel if he would have had a bead on the ball, he would have had a big return there.

I agree 100%. I hated to see him leave for that reason, not for his work at safety. Not that there's anything wrong with his play at safety, but Landry has that problem solved. B)

If you take players with 10 or more returns he was 4th in kickoff return average and 16th in punt return average, but as I was hinting at before, he didn't have a kickoff OR punt return for a TD, just solid returns over and over again.

I certainly do not miss Figurs, not even a bit. I agree with your other point though, I was not overly excited seeing Reed out there on the kick returns.

Ya i dont want to see Reed out there returning anything besides Inteceptions. I was frustrated with carrs perfomance aswell but it is the first game so we will see webb is still there for the ravens as another option. Webb should see more work at cornerback and leave carr to the returns that much i do know.

Didn't Webb have like 3 fumbles returning kicks during preseason?

The D was soo rested from those long drives by the offense I guess he wanted to try and get involved. Im sure Ray was sleep on the sidelines during those long drives lol

Everyone has bad days, though i agree with you that Webb should get some returns, and reps on D, I think that we should give Carr a little more of a chance than just shut him down after one game, especially opening game.

That's the main problem. I think he has more upside than Carr but Carr hasn't put the ball on the ground, yet. Carr bobbled the ball on punt returns at least twice yesterday so who knows what could happen. If Webb continues to practice well, he'll get his opportunities before mid-season.

Did anyone else cringe when Reed made that goal line stop with his head and a Chief came right down on his neck? I was worried for a minute, he got up real slow.

To comment on a little of everyones post.

Like Purock said, I liked that Reed thought he was heathly enough to step back there, but risking one of best players to gain 6 yards like he did is not a smart move as far as I am concerned. I love Reeds vision, but save itsomething like this for a critical game.

I don't miss figures at all. north and south not east and west.

Even though Carr did not have a good game, I think over the next 2 games he will get his feet back under him. it kinda looked like he was running in slow motion. Im sure he is geting reps in practice, but I think with the first regualer season game under his belt he will start to look a bit more elusive.
