Being a leader isn't calling an analyst a "bum." Being a leader is about proving that they in fact aren't "bums." There was no need to tell Keyshawn anything. In fact, I would've liked it if someone talked to Johnson about his earlier comments. Leaders know how to keep their cool.

no he sticked up for the wrs on the team .Plus i read in an espn coloumn chris carter said the ravens arent that good it wouldve been better to say they couldnt win the games that put pressure on us like the afc champ game vs pittsbrg than to say they arent so good. are u kidding me we beat the dolphins twice we bweat the titans and we whooped the cowgirls and were on a hot streak and beat 3 of 4 nfc east teams

When I read Mase's comments I laughed out loud. What he said is pretty much true, and it must feel great to get that off your chest after you have a really good game like the Ravens offense did. Let the commentators yak about how our receivers are dragging us down. They're just making us more determined to prove them wrong.

I don't completely agree. Leaders sometimes need to speak up too. Besides, Mase is 100% right.

I missed the original story. Please don't tell me that Keyshawn called Mason a bum!

Merged topics again about the comments Keyshawn Johnson made about the Ravens WRs and Derrick Mason's rebuttal. Try to keep it here so the conversation stays centralized. ;)

He didn't call Mason out by name, no....
But I agree, a leader is someone who will not hesitate to take a stand on anything. Knowing when to shut up is critical, but when you and your teammates are being publicly disrespected, I don't think that is one of those times to take the laid back approach.
You may or may not agree with Mason's words, but you can't help but respect his actions.

Exactly. There IS a time to do nothing and there IS a time to stand up and speak out. He is the elder vet and he handled it for the entire squad. No one else could have gotten away with it but him.

Cris Carter wasn't a bum. Keyshawn Johnson...now that's a different matter entirely. A level of talent, sure, but hard to say whether Keyshawn was quite the game-changer that he makes himself out to be. Carter, on the other hand, taught Randy Moss everything he knows.

Well, except the jump-ball; that's all Super-Freak. ;)

Keyshawn was incredibly overrated. He was constantly criticized for not being able to score points. It was priceless watching the draft a few years ago when Keyshawn was playing. His team drafted a wideout. He was on the air saying "Im gonna help groom this kid" "It will be a pleasure working with him" and he was cut right afterwards! HAHAHAHHA I bet he felt soooo little when that happened.

Well, that's understandable. But saying he was always a bum is pure ignorance.

Damn, Mason sounded like he was about to get FIRED UP in that video. I almost wish a reporter would've egged him on so we could've seen him tell us how he really feels about Keyshawn.

D-Mase is too professional to go that far, though. Mason's right when he says his numbers are comparable to Keyshawn, and the biggest difference is, Mason was still wanted as a STARTER after his 10th season; Keyshawn probably couldn't have even beat out an underachieving rookie in Dwayne Jarrett at the time if he wanted to.

Love it, theres a time and a place to make a statement and that was def the time. Alot of people have been beating around the bush about our receivers this off season about them not being any good but never went as far as to actually say it. And when Keyshawn actually said it how do you not take it personal, after hearing it all off season and then someone actually blasting you on the air. I think we all would have told Keyshawn to stick it, in some way form or fashion. Now, lets hope that WR corps actually does stick it to him with their performance.

keyshawn is the worst analyst on the show he always likes picking the pats. his opinions dont matter to me plus he was never that good anyway. watch when the ravens win the superbowl with these so called "bums" then who'll be taking, mason because he would have a ring if the ravens win the superbowl.

First time I've seen that used in a non-religious context  (I'm on a lot of theistic and secular sites--religious history and social evolution are secret passions of mine)

I think we all agree Johnson is terrible.
I lost a lot of respect for him during the first preseason MNF game pregame show, but this really ices it.
Anyone watch that show while they were talking about a vikings player that said favre was going to be "signed tomorrow" before it happened. Basically everyone thought it was the wrong thing to say except Johnson and everyone was overtalking him and he got frustrated and blurted out "Jesus Christ." The rest of guys were slightly taken aback and promptly shut up. Johnson looked like a whiny little teenager...

I don't understand the cowardice but yeah I mentioned this in the picks thread. It was fairly amusing.
