I honestly have to go to a game with you, Franchise.

By the way, has no one here ever considered a collective board meet-up?

Virtually every other site has some form of reuniting the fans, and although the admins/PR guys have been awesome in giving out single tickets to individuals, an effort should be considered to bring together hoards boards.baltimoreravens members.

I guess this forum really isn't established enough yet as there are only a handful of regulars, but the idea is worth a mention.

It may be too late for this season, but 2010 sounds ripe for a tailgate + game opportunity.
Not a bad idea, and we've discussed this publicly here before, but the only issues might be logistics and safety. Safety might be easy enough if the proper steps are taken, but logistics might be the biggest problem since a good chunk of regulars (myself included) are out-of-state, so gamedays aren't so convenient.

But, we might bring this up again in the future in a meeting if this is something that could be done, and more importantly, done right.

"sissy," sure---smart, incredibly. it was a great move to swallow our pride and give us some time to prepare for the reigning champs.

Yeah, I get that, but when this board becomes more established I really think that you guys should look into that idea.

As it stands right now, though, there probably isn't enough familiarity between members.

You say the game Ravnet. I'll be there. Be sweet if BR.com gave us the option of face value tickets. Or let us nestle in the corner of section 535.

Hence why we're always taking little steps into making this more of a community than ever before.

The social-networking features are just a small step. I can see other big things happening over the next year to make us all more unified and the strongest internet community within the NFL network of team websites.

who cares? We all know the media is gonna look for any way to perceive us as a weak, untalented team. Its the same sob story over and over. I KNOW it was not a "sissy" move by our team and that's all that matters to me.

Besides, as previous posters have said, we played IN Pittsburgh in PRIME TIME in 05, 07, and 08. Supposedly this is a league of parity and if they kept making schedules to where we play in Pittsburgh on a Sunday or Monday night for a third consecutive season, it would be unfair, simply put. If the NFL wants to push this as one of its best rivalries (which seems to be the case, and we all know it is the best rivalry), it should appear that there is another field and the big ketchup.

Bromance between Franny and Ravnet aside(nah I ain't jealous about living nowhere near Baltimore)....

I kinda wish we were playing in this game. I'm not one to care what others think but it is a bit annoying that people are going to say we cowered away from the Steelers, and they won't necessarily be wrong. Also I miss Ravens football! The preseason was fun but meaningless, and week 1 against the CHIEFS doesn't sound like it's going to be a fun, competitive game. Their starting quarterback(who may not even be good, we really don't know considering the offense he had in NE) probably won't play, Larry Johnson is good but teams never beat us with the run.

On top of that, for us to crash this Steeler-praising party in Pittsburgh, under the national spotlight...it would have quickly healed any wounds we all have left over from last year, and get us all high for weeks. Not to mention shutting up all the critics and Steelers worshippers in the media...

If the Titans pull it off tonight, I'm going to have a lot of "man if only that was us" feelings, because I know we're just as capable as the Titans, more so in fact, and we shied away from the opportunity and the challenge.

I thought it was kind of "sissyish".

I mean, they beat us three times last season and we were presented with an opportunity to try and beat them in Pittsburgh on the night they celebrate their Superbowl on national television.

And we back out. Thats not the kind of attitude this team has carried over the years. I was really surprised that the ownership backed down from this game.

If we are going to be an "elite" team, than these are the games we need to play in. I'm sorry but this was just one of the few moves the Ravens have made that I totally disagree with.

Well, on the bright side, because the Ravens aren't playing tonight, I get to go to the game Sunday! If they were playing on a Thursday night, best believe it ain't happening for me unless it's IN Baltimore and celebrating a Ravens Super Bowl win! :)

Which is why I proposed the idea of next year; seeing as how all the tickets are already sold out for this season, it would be more expensive to get tickets for massive amounts of people.

I agree about sitting in the 500s, though, as that is probably the only way you're going to get a bunch of members to willingly pay for the entrance fee.

I would gladly pay the $100 for lower level seats, though, seeing as how I'm already paying that for Sunday's game.

The Ravens didn't request not to play them in the season opener. They requested to NOT play them in Pittsburgh for a prime time game. They got to play the Ravens in prime time in THEIR house two years in a row. It was the Ravens turn to host a prime time matchup between the two, or just not have either meeting be prime time.

Don't worry though, was it a sissy move for the league to make the Ravens play 3 teams coming off their bye week, but not make the Steelers play ANYONE coming off a bye week? Was it a sissy move by the league to let the Steelers play 3 teams the week immediately after those teams play the Ravens, and yet the Ravens play no teams immediately after they play the Steelers.

Scott Garceuau is much more annoying than Anita Marks, but she gets hated on because she's a woman. At least she's played football.

I"m sitting here on my sofa watching this game. To me it's even more proof that the Ravens made the right decision. It's a national love fest for the Steelers. Let's beat the hell out of these guys when it's just football.

Go RAVENS!!!!!

The reason why i wouldnt want us to play the Stealers in the preseason is the same exact reason why its not sissy of us not to play them this early in the season. Especially on Prime Time TV in Pittsburgh. There would be a huge possibility of injury playin such a Physical team on the Road that early. Ed couldv been in Troys shoes Thursday and we dont need that right now.

Oh, man I was with you until that last part. They both suck. Anita doesnt get hated on because she's a woman. People, well I, hate her because her suggestions on how to improve any team, not just the Ravens, are based more on the impact it would have on fantasy football, then what it actually takes to win in the NFL.

Well you'll never have to worry about the Ravens playing the Steelers in the pre season because teams do not play within their division for pre season games.

Also, Ed would have never been in Troys position because Ed doesn't tackle! :P

While I still think we should have played that game, I couldn't help but feel like we probably would have ended up on the short end of the stick like the Titans were last night.

The way things played out last night for the Steelers was as sickening as they played out for them last season. They yet again, caught another break.

The luck will run out! Especially with Troy being out for a possible 3-6 weeks! And no, I'm not "cheering an injury" here. I'm just saying that things should be a little more difficult for the Steelers until he comes back.

I generally don't pay much attention to people who are paid to fill air time to speak and who also compromise their own views to get a rise out of fans.

Anita Marks maybe, but not Garceau. He later went on to say something along the lines of " i didn't really mean to say it was a sissy move" and that he really meant it in a "why not" sense. Anita on the other hand, jumped ALL OVER that as soon as it came out of Scott's mouth. Usually Scott is the voice of reason, i mean right after that comment was made Anita was ignorant enough to respond to a fan's comment with "well obviously you don't listen to the show very much"

I agree. Usually Scott is the voice of reason. I don’t believe he meant any disrespect to the Ravens. His comments did lead to an interesting discussion.

Scott Garceau said the Ravens decision not to play the Steelers in the NFL kickoff game was a sissy move. Do you agree? I think it was the right decision. Make them wait for the pain.
Its an intelligent move. Steelers havent lost an opening game for years. The defending SB champs havent lost an opening game for even longer i believe. The Ravens winning against the Steelers is about 50/50 in a normal game, but the odds of winning this opening game were much worse. Plus the steelers are all hyped from winning those rings and they have all those celebrations before the actual game, it makes us look like the bad guy, you know? im glad we declined this game. We are better off starting 1-0, it gives us some momentum.

I was reading a story this morning on Foxsports.com.....'Without Polumalu, Steeler's Aren't Elite' by Alex Marvez. A post from the article follows:

"First off...EBJET, you're an idiot. What do your silly Patriots have to do with Troy getting injured??? Moron...

Second, great game to all you Titans! At least you had the balls to show up and play. That game last night was supposed to be against the Ravens. THEY DECLINED! The Baltimore sissies wouldn't come into Sixburgh to start the season. Talk about scared...

And I'm really not sure why our running game last night was such a big deal. It's been going on for over a decade now. Everyone loads the box against the Steelers. The best chance to win aginst them is to take away the run. The only difference now is that we have a QB that overcome those situations (...and we've got a couple more rings to prove it!)"

Sounds like the shots across the bow are starting!!

Why did we pass on this game if this guy is right????????

way to be mature and show your age there buddy, noone should do anything, just ignore it and move on from it..... we dont need to lower our Class to their level if they talk like that....we as Raven Fans have respect, dignity, and are (apparently ALOT) more mature than MOST (didnt say all..but most) steeler fans.

As discussed in another thread.

Sissy...sure
Advantageous...definitely

Result - Who Cares? Will be decided at the end of the season.

The Ravens didn't have a problem playing the Steelers for the first game of the season, the issue is that we never get home field for the prime time games, the ratio of Steelers to Ravens prime time home games against each other is totally unfair. So the Ravens said we aren't playing them at home in primetime until we get a home primetime game first.

As far as being scared - if I was the Steelers I'd be worried about my own team first. Polamalu is out for god knows how long, the running game looked pathetic, and if not for laughable defensive play calling by the Titans and poor FG kicking they would be 0-1.

He talks tough now (and it's always easy to talk tough from afar, especially when your team is on top), but we'll see who's still talking in November. Or, more importantly, who's still playing in January.

Let them gloat and talk all the trash they want. We know what they know, deep down inside, that the Ravens are dangerous. Dangerous enough to be an obstacle to their run at more history for years to come. They know that they're nervous about November because, despite winning three different times last season, they only won by 16 combined points. It took overtime, in their own house, to come back and win against a rookie QB on a national stage. It took a questionable call in the second meeting to win the division. It took a penalty to help them muster a victory in the third meeting to head to the Super Bowl.

They know that those games could've easily been lost. But luck runs out eventually -- it always does.
