Hey everyone,

Not a big deal really, just wanted to share this with anyone that would want this.

I've been working on a Baltimore Ravens theme for the Firefox web browser. Upon completion I'll be submitting it to Mozilla repositories for distribution, but I wanted everyone here to get it first. Also, it requires a little (very simple, I promise!) manual configuration, and I cant provide support to every Tom, Dick and Harry who fail to read the instructions, but will be glad to do so for my purple brethren here if you have any problems; so if you contact me here then I know who is requesting support.

I am nearly finished; should hopefully be done by this weekend. Just shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Note:

This is only compatible with Firefox versions 3.0 and up. Please do not install this on versions 1 or 2 (click on Help > About Mozilla Firefox if you are unsure which version you have), so upgrade your browser before installing, if applicable.

Again, it wont be ready for distribution until this weekend at the earliest, I will check back here and let you know when it's ready.

Enjoy!

No problem!
That's the main hold up right now; trying to debug several things and so on.

And wow, you are hardcore if you dont upgrade so that you can keep a theme! :P

Yep, an iGoogle page is in the works! I will be including that with the first theme update, which unfortunately probably won't be for about a month.

There is some other stuff I a not a huge fan of but I am have gotten used to it, the new Mozilla also interfered with work I do on another site so I need to use the IE mode, but the skin was the straw that broke the camels back. Gray is so blah :P

I don't think you understand how much I abso-freakin'-lutely LOVE YOU for this, man! Granted, I've already found a theme to perfectly match my sexy piano black laptop lid and the black Vista color settings, but I'd more than sacrifice aesthetics in my browser just to be able to represent the Ravens again when I'm busy not paying attention in class!

Sounds cool, I don't really understand computers, but if this thing doesn't screw up my laptop, then I'd be glad to download it.

Thanks.

Will it work on Firefox for Mac?

Here are the operating systems that it has been tested on and will be available for:

1. Windows XP (all versions)
2. Windows Vista (all versions)
3. Windows 7
4. All Linux based distros

Unfortunately, I only have XP and Windows 7, and a couple Linux distros running on my computer, so that is what it was designed and tested on.
But to give a direct answer to your question, it will likely have issues running on a Mac. It won't cause any problems if you try it out on your Mac, but it probably have too many problems to be useable. But hey, if you want to be the guinea pig, give it a shot and let me know if it is recoverable!

//Note

I do also have a "hackintosh" installed (Mac users: google if you aren't sure what that is) and the theme failed miserably on it.

No worries, it will not harm your system in any way.

If anyone is not familiar with what this is, it is simply a theme that will give your Firefox web browser a new look. Your web browser will automatically install it for you, and then you will simply have to copy two additional files to a folder on your computer. It does not interact with any system files and zero chance of it messing anything up, so this is a completely safe and fun modification.

Very nice. I miss my old Ravens theme very much, I was both hoping and wondering if another one would ever be made. Can't wait to check it out.

i hope it actually looks cool

It's actually a remake of the old Ravens firefox theme for versions 1 & 2. I haven't changed much of the graphics from the old version because I wanted to rush and try my best to have this available for the start of the year.

I think it looks pretty decent, but when I have time I'm going to freshen it up with better graphics and so on...but since I'm the only one working on it I kind of have to prioritize and make sure it functions properly with FF3 before I do anything else.

In fact, I'm going to add a poll; want to see if people would rather have a purple-based or black-based theme for when it gets a makeover. Currently it is purple.

Black-based theme, hands-down. It'd match my laptop and desktop colors. :)

Totally free, no need to purchase anything.

The only requirements are:

1. must be using firefox version 3.0 or later
2. using a Microsoft Windows or Linux computer (am going to try to support Mac operating systems if enough requests are made)
3. must love the Ravens enough to rock a purple web browser

Installation instructions will be included when you download the theme.

Just to update, because I know I said that I'm not sure if it will be done or not by this weekend....coming along pretty well, most of the bugs have been fixed. I *should* have the beta version ready for release by tomorrow night or Sunday morning.

Please note that this version is being rushed out because I want it to be available for Week 1. I have a LOT of upgrades and add-ons planned for this, so bear with me for now. The original version was created about three years ago, and is in need of an overhaul (it's nice as it is, IMO, but since we have the BEST team in the league with the BEST website and BEST fans, we should have the BEST web browser so that we can troll the Steeler forums in style  )

ok guys, have had a lot of people asking about it and gave me a hard time about getting it done before game time tomorrow (you know who you are :P ) soooooo.......

I've finished up most everything, other than the design. I even had to whip up a quick scroll bar since the old one doesn't function in version 3; so this is a real rush job.
If you want this right away, you can download it within an hour from now (need to package everything, write up the instructions, etc.) and you can always upgrade when I release the update for the theme (the update will include the final, intended design). After I finish up on this theme, I will be making a black theme as well (it is killer!!).

Below is a screenshot if you want to see how the theme looks right now before you download it.

Like I was saying, it still needs a lot of cleaning up, but the finished product will look a lot nicer than that. Just a rush job to "get it out the door" tonight.

Also, have a lot of upgrades/addons planned for this....stay tuned!!

Ready for download!

Please download the following four files:

http://www.keystonep...imoreRavens.jar

install file (right-click on this link and select "Save Link As....")

additional install file (right-click on this link and select "Save Link As....")

instructions (right-click on this link and select "Save Link As....")

The first file will self-install when you open it with Firefox.
The second and third files get copied to a folder on your computer.
The instructions are, well, instructions :P

If you have any trouble at all, please post your questions here just in case someone else has the same question.

Remember, this isn't the final version-- not saying this is horrid, but it is still a work in progress and a few minor things need adjusted (example: need to add a Close Tab button on the tabs....I find it annoying to have to right-click on a tab to close it); I'm still cleaning up the design and making it pretty, but hopefully this will do in the mean time! Final version should be complete in a week or so, and then I'll be working on a black theme (looks very nice so far!!).

*Also*

This will be getting regular updates over the next year or two, as I add features and other neat stuff...no need to do anything else, it will update automatically if you have your browser set for "Automatic Update".

One more thing......

Please let me know if you hate/are annoyed by anything!!

I'm sure some people won't like the transparent menus, for example...won't know if you don't tell me!

I don't have firefox and haven't used it before. What are the benifits over IE?
Many advantages to Firefox!

1. Security-- by eliminating the use of ActiveX and VBScript, many of IE's security vulnerabilities do not exist in Firefox. There are other reasons it is more secure, but those are the two main reasons.

2. Extensions-- By clicking Tools > Add-ons in Firefox, you have access to literally thousands of extensions. I personally have about 40-50 extensions installed on my browser-- take my word, they are indispensible! It is also a big reason why FF has gain such a huge chunk of market share in such a small period of time.

3. Speed-- FF is highly configurable (hint to current FF users.... type "about:config" into the url bar and have a look around), and can easily outperform IE, particularly in script rendering and image loading. In other words, it's faster.

4. Built-in features-- such as a download manager, searchbar, etc...FF again embarrasses IE in this aspect.

Honestly, you should be asking "why use IE?"

Give it a go!

There's just one thing bugging me - The tabs don't have individual controls so you cannot exit out a tab when you aren't on it. Otherwise great!
