Useless stat, but I found it mildly interesting.

Midly yes. Average age is two years apart.

Damn I must be getting old. 29 - I'm not in the average range anymore. Man my chance at a NFL career is going right past my eyes. *sigh*

Yeah, I was surprised that there wasn't even a two-year difference between the top and bottom teams. But then, a year in the NFL is like 7 dog years. Or something like that... :)

As for which I'd rather have on my team? A mixture of older/experienced/steady and younger/fresh/enthusiastic usually provides a nice, well-rounded team. But of the two choices you have, I think I'm going with younger because they will become the older, experienced players and that means a lot of future excitement - think Flacco and what we think he'll bring for the future. ...but I might have to rethink that if I use Ray Lewis as my model for the older player, because he is the catalyst of the team right now... Hmmmmmmmmm...

The average age is an overrated stat.

The more important stat is the age of your star players. Flacco is young, as are other key players - like Ray Rice, Suggs and Oher.

More disconcerting are the ages of Ray Lewis, Mason, Reed (to go with his injuries) and Birk. Look how many people are sweating the kicking game, with the retirement of Stover...

It's age in key positions, that is more important than average age.
