I don't understand how David Tyree will help our team , he's not a leader , he's not fast , he's not even a good route runner . At least Kelley Washington is tall . This guy is a freaken joke . All he's ever gonna be known for is that catch , and that's it . if he were so good he would replace Burress , or at least MAKE THE FREAKEN TEAM !!

This will not help our team in any way , shape , or form . I don't mean to bash the guy , I hope he signs with somebody , to help him and his family . But for this team , he won't do us any good .

I think this is a ploy to get people excited about Brand Marshall! Oh Ozzie, you're so clever :-)

People have really overreacted about the receiver situation. The team made to the AFC 'chip last year with basically Mason, Clayton and Todd Heap catch 1-2 balls a game. This year, Williams is back(this is it for him), Washington is here and Rice could catch over 50 balls by year's end. That's an automatic improvement over last year.
[/quote]

Oh how soon we forget. People don't realize that healthy Mason is a HUGE improvement over one-armed Mason alone. he caught 5TD's and racked up over 1,000 yards with one arm after about 6-8 games in. He is healthy, looks fast, looks committed, and I think a two armed Mason is already a nice boost for the corps. If D Will can stay healthy he is always a threat, Clayton was showing some really nice improvement and chemistry with Flacco (before he got hurt in the preseason) and I think Washington could be an absolute beast. Don't forget the addition of a very good receiving TE in LJ Smith also. That being said, our receving corps IS better than last year, but I am not in any way saying it couldn't be better or that is a top 10 WR corps, because it isn't. I would love to sign a Boldin or Marshall but the money just isn't there. I am still for bringing in Matt Jones (but this goes against our mantra of men of character but its not like he could find crack anywhere in Baltimore right? Right??) So if we bring Tyree on its because Ozzie and Harbs think he can help the team. Look, we have 10LB and 5RB on the roster and I can't help but think we stockpiled in order to pry a Jason Avant-type WR from another team to add to our group. Now that would be special.

People are overreacting way too much in here. I have a strong feeling we're not bringing him in to play a factor as a wide reciever. He's getting looked at as a special teamer, mainly in kick coverage. That's what he does best, and will fit in nicely with us with our gunner Marcus Smith out.

I'm not saying Tyree will do anything on offense, but we thought the same thing about Washington and judging from the preseason he may be a HUGE pickup for us. If Tyree can come in a be another solid gunner, I'd be satisfied. If he is signed, he'll be an emergency back up IMO. Who knows what a team change might do for guy that was put to pasture.

Not very excited about this, hopefully we don't sign him. I would be more excited if they had just kept Harper, Riley, or Foster on the roster, which isn't exactly an exciting notion either. David Tyree is not big, not fast, he hasn't shown consistent catching ability in his limited opportunities, and most importantly I doubt he is 100% healthy right now seeing as he wasn't as of last week. About the only things he has going for him are experience in the league, experience on special teams, and a catch that happened 2 years ago. I know that Kelley Washington was used exclusively as a special teams guy in New England, but at least he was Cincy's 3rd receiver before that as well as being a big physical receiver. And at least Kelley is HEALTHY. I really hope that we don't sign the guy if we are truly looking for another receiver (which I don't think we need anyway with all the extra balls Heap and our stable of running backs will be catching this year). I would much, much rather have Matt Jones who at least has starting wideout experience and would be a much better red zone target, he's almost half a foot taller than Tyree. There are probably even more receivers out there that I would probably rather have as well. Do what is right Oz, I trust you will.

EDIT: You guys are all talking about how he would be used mostly for special teams. We have a multitude of guys that aren't starters who are already great on coverage (Ayanbadejo, Zbikowski, Nakamura, Barnes, Walker to name a few) not to mention the guys who will get better in their (mostly) special teams roles (Burgess, Ellerbe, Webb, Edgar Jones, Parmele and Lawrence, etc). All of these guys are already much farther along than Tyree would be with our coverage and return units since they have only been practicing at it for this team for 2 of the last 3 months basically. And not to drive this point into the ground or anything, they are all 100% HEALTHY excluding Ellerbe. I could very well be incorrect, but I have seen absolutely no other reports stating that Tyree is at that point yet. It's the main reason everyone in the NFL media knew he was going to get cut two weeks before the roster trimdowns. He couldn't even get on the field to compete against the Giants' other wideouts.

Jamison Hensley just posted on Twitter that the ravens are expected to call Tyree at the earliest next week since he passed the physical. I wonder who will be cut to make a roster spot for him

My guess is Parmele or Lawerence. One of those two guys. I really feel that we are keeping our depth at LB for a potential trade.

I have no problem with this. We know the defense is solid. The offense is coming together and there is no cure-all Free Agent out there for us, so the if we can get better on special teams ,so be it. Besides that, Tyree is a great guy and will do positive things for the locker room and the community!

Special Teams are going to be critical this year. We have a lot riding on Hauschka and Carr. Thankfully we have a pro bowl caliber punter. I heard Pittsburgh has a dangerous new face returning kicks (can't remember name), so we gotta be able to stop that. If Tyree can contribute there, then he'd be a good signing I suppose.

Forget this guy. He made one great catch but that doesn't make him a great player.

Look at it this way. The Giants are having WR troubles as well so do you really think they would cut a guy that they felt could help them out?

They guy made a Pro Bowl 4 years ago as a special teams player and hasn't played in a regular season football game in over a year and a half.

At this point, I'm content into going into the season with what we have and hoping a guy like Justin Harper can get his act together on the practice squad in case we need him. Or Eron Riley for that matter.

If they do sign Tyree once the season starts, I don't want to see Parmele or Lawrence sent to the practice squad no matter how good Tyree is on special teams. Of course both guys offer good RB depth but I know Lawrence can play special teams and I don't think they would've kept Parmele if he couldn't.

If we sign Tyree it won't be until AFTER Week 1 so that his contract will NOT be guaranteed like it would be should we sign him this week..

One final time for those who will complain about this not helping the receiving corps. It's not about the receiving corps, it's a signing to bolster the special teams. No one values special teams like Harbaugh and for years, he watched David Tyree tear it up on special teams. Marcus Smith, one of the team best gunners last year is done and the coverage units need someone like Tyree. Ayenbadejo was brought in to replace Gary Stills for the same reason.

Bingo...

Combine that with the fact that he would be the #5 WR. Little playing time=little impact potential.
