Ravens Work Out David Tyree

56 posts in this topic

I don't understand how David Tyree will help our team , he's not a leader , he's not fast , he's not even a good route runner . At least Kelley Washington is tall . This guy is a freaken joke . All he's ever gonna be known for is that catch , and that's it . if he were so good he would replace Burress , or at least MAKE THE FREAKEN TEAM !!

This will not help our team in any way , shape , or form . I don't mean to bash the guy , I hope he signs with somebody , to help him and his family . But for this team , he won't do us any good .

I'm so happy now, we are going to bring in a 6'0, 29 year old receiver that has been in the NFL for 5 seasons and only has 4 touchdowns. Our WR's aren't much better and they haven't proven anything other then Mason who leads with 52 TD's. Seriously the FO needs to stop going after below average WRs on the downside of their career. If we pick up a receiver get someone relatively young. I think anyone that is on the ravens can produce more then this kid who made one lucky catch.

I posted in the other thread, he is not an improvement over any of our receivers and if anything he will just take up cap room. I don't want a kid that made one lucky catch but otherwise can't perform to NFL standards. If the FO is serious about picking up a real WR they will trade one of our backup LB's for one.

Hes a former ST pro bowler (believe it was 06?)thats most likely the biggest reason why he was signed, chill out fellas he most likely signed for vet league minimum so the cap space you say hes taking up is equivalent to the water boy. I repeat he wasnt signed to make a huge offensive impact.

Calm down. It was a workout! You're talking like they signed him for a huge contract. The Giants have a ton of young bodies at receiver and he's expendable. The Ravens wanted to see what he had and they gave him a workout? What's so bad about that?

Because there's a thousand WR's banging from the door of free agency that could help us offensively , do you really think that he'll help us in any way , even special teams , it's not like him and chris carr are going to be the wonder twins . We either need speed or height , or even a great route runner , he's none of the above

We lost probably our best gunner in Marcus Smith for the season.

A game hasn't even been played and people going crazy like it's the end of the world that we're working out Tyree.

It's a workout. That's it.

I'm sure the best of those free agent WRs have come up in management's conversations. They've made moves on the players they thought were the best or valued the most. Kelley Washington was brought in and has looked serviceable. Bennett was signed but retired and now the team took a look at Tyree. He's probably shown why the Giants felt he was expendable so what's the big deal?

Good point. I never thought of that. There were several times last year when Smith was the first one to returner and brought him down swiftly. Maybe the Ravens worked him out with special teams in mind.

I personally think they're comfortable with the receiver situation right now. They know they could use a complete #1 receiver but one isn't available that they value..

Thats what ive been attempting to say, they brought him in because of his ST contributions, not offensive capabilities.

Aaron Wilson is reporting Tyree is taking a physical so he's probably going to be a Raven. Ravenite made a good point about Marcus Smith arguably being the team's best gunner and he's done for the year. If Tyree is signed, he could help the coverage units which have struggled since last year.

I agree , we have to get guys in the workout to weigh out the options , it's just frustrating with guys out there , but yet we look at tyree , I just hope the team does the right thing , I just wish we had a young stud at WR , but we can all dream right ?

What WR do you suggest we should get out of the thousands of guys who can help us offensively?

I'm with you man. Part of me is already looking forward to next year's draft when underclassmen studs like Dez Bryant and Arrelious Benn and Damian Williams will probably all come out. Hopefully the Ravens could get one of them.

I don't know about Benn or Bryant but Williams is NFL-ready.

Here's just a few to name

David Patten
Matt Jones
Amani Toomer
Marvin Harrison

and the countless Young guys who just came out of college HUNGRY for a chance to prove themselves in the league

People have really overreacted about the receiver situation. The team made to the AFC 'chip last year with basically Mason, Clayton and Todd Heap catch 1-2 balls a game. This year, Williams is back(this is it for him), Washington is here and Rice could catch over 50 balls by year's end. That's an automatic improvement over last year.

Why are we still talking about Jones. I think Toomer plays for KC. And Harrison wants too much money. I get your point. I don't think we should even try out Tyree. I truly believe he is a guy that will be known for one catch in his career. But who knows maybe the Ravens see something in the guy that no one else does. I've seen the Ravens do crazier things that work out.

Why do you think Jones and Harrison are still free agents? As far as Toomer and Patten go, why do you think they were both cut by teams with poor receiving corps?

honestly I hear what your saying , this guy was cut from a team because of his liability as they saw it the giants have drafted alot of wideouts and lets not forget the fact 19 months IR will do that , you get replaced WE have a chance here to make a move if I am right , we will make a Great one . this will be his first chance in 2 seasons to prove himself. now lets lay this to rest , optomism people pessimists can go be bengals and browns fans lol

You didn't answer the question. Patten is a journey-man scrub. Toomer is washed up. Jones is talented but has a drug problem. There are many questions surrounding Harrison which has caused everyone to back off.

Washington costs less than all those guys, can play special teams and was the most productive receiver in pre-season.

Joe just needs to aim the ball at Tyree's helmet and we'll be fine. And with his proven accuracy against skeets, that shouldn't be a problem.

So then what's the Grand Solution for all this then ?
