Shawne Merriman Arrested

San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of assault.

A spokeswoman for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said Merriman is accused of choking and restraining television reality show hostess and model Tila Nguyen. Nguyen also known as Tila Tequila and previously hosted a reality show.

“Nguyen told deputies she had been choked and physically restrained by Merriman when she attempted to leave his residence.”

Merriman has been arrested with battery and false imprisonment, Tila was taken to Pomerado Hospital. No comment by either.[/i]

Shame. But, whether or not the allegations are true, this is why professional athletes have to be more careful about who they associate themselves with and what they do, whether it's in public or private. The people around them can easily get them in trouble even in private.

As for Tila Tequila, on a side note, I used to have a thing for her. Until her reality shows and "music career." Then, she became rather annoying. Still doesn't deserve it, though, if he really did that. /sidenote

Just like with Roethlisberger, we must withhold judgement until we hear both sides... Merriman claims that, "Nguyen was “extremely inebriated” and that Merriman tried to stop her from leaving the home because he didn’t feel it was safe for her to do so." She could have been dead drunk, and he was keeping her from killing herself behind the wheel.

We simply don't know.

That said, Merriman - and other pro athletes - should be very careful, not to put themselves in these situations. I know the Chargers' FO is having kittens (figuratively ) over this story...

You're right. And given Tila Tequila's public reputation, that could very well be true.

Another vote for innocent until proven guilty. While it may have been poor judgement on Merriman's part who he spends his time with, Tila isn't exactly a pillar of the community with impeccable integrity.

I have a sneaking suspicion it may be a case of any publicity is good (for her) and things were blown way out of proportion.

Report just came out saying Tila Tequila was intoxicated and was trying to drive home from a get together at Merriman's house. He restrained her from leaving. After she called the cops and paramedics, both of which commented that she was indeed intoxicated and no bruising or injuries could be found.

She is now saying she is allergic to alcohol and doesn't drink saying the allegations are false.

I know a few friends who get allergic reactions (turn red) from alcohol but do it anyway.

I got Merrriman's back on this because he has the witnesses and well....when has anyone thought Tila was innocent at anything?

I hate to generalize, but when it comes to Tila Tequila and her public persona, sometimes what you see on TV is true with some of these celebrities. Sure, she might be playing it up for the cameras, but it's not too hard to imagine her having poor judgment. At the same time, it's also not hard to imagine Shawne Merriman losing his cool. Either way, we don't know all the facts yet, but I'm with you and I'm inclined to side with Merriman.

Not sure if it is true but my uncle told me that the chargers made a pact to not let anyone they know drink and drive because they lost a team mate to such a fate. It might be true because why hasn't she filed any papers against him? Hes a raider fan so its not like some Charger homer.

I'm glad he didn't get charged. Now when he becomes a FA next year the Ravens can sign him and bring him back home. I was waiting to see if there were going to be any charges against him because the whole character thing would come into play if he would have gotten charged and we would have passed on him. Now let's just keep up on how well he plays and see if the Chargers re-sign him or not.

On a side note. Tia Tequila should hook up with Chad OchoCinco. They both seem to like the attention and like changing their last name to Spanish items.

Why would you post on the internet that you're drunk then try to hide the evidence later? The internet is known for its ability to make anything permanent. Not only that, but why would she be so stupid as to say that she's "allergic" to alcohol when she knew these posts existed anyway? That's the weakest defense I've ever heard.

From what i hear, she was drunk as a skunk and tried to enter her car to drive somewhere and Shawne stopped her and she called the cops on him.
