Well... at least Al Davis can't blow the pick on a 4.3 punter.

Ya know, I still can't get over that he drafted a kicker (Janikowski) in the first round. And then he ends up being such an average kicker. The man certainly knows how to waste draft picks!!

I hear ya' - can you imagine going from the SB contending Pats to the trainwreck that is Oakland... I'll bet he got good & drunk when he heard the news...

lol. Well, at the very least, Seymour can just mail it in this season by playing only half-heartedly; by playing, he'll still earn all the money from his contract year rather than sitting out and missing out on paychecks. If he's lucky, he can still have fun with it. And if not, then he can always call Belichick back up and his buddy might sign him for a reasonable contract to be a backup (or even starter again) in New England as a favor.

Maybe the Raider fans are as crazy as old Al...

Most of their forum members think it was a great trade:

Mass insanity.

Dude to Raider fans every year is a superbowl bound season, they are the most delusional fans in the NFL. At this pace the Lions will win a SB before the Raiders.

Undead Al must think, he owns the Pats and not the Raiders. The Pats are screwing them with no grease in every trade. First, Moss and Burgess for 4th round picks. And then they turn around and get the Raiders to give up a 1st round pick for a 30+ year old DE, who's in the last year of his deal- If I am not mistaken. Thats going to be a wasted pick if Seymour starts to show signs of aging OR they fail to get him resigned. So, in all likely hood its a wasted pick.

EDIT

Unless, the Raiders are 3-4 end away from the Superbowl... Anybody believe that?

Didnt think so.

Just to clear up one thing, Seymour is 29. Either way, the Pats have a chance to make that 1st rounder pay off with either a nice trade down or a top tier 1st rounder.

I actually think this could be accurate. Detroit is rebuilding through the draft, by infusing youth. They have Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson. The Raiders are trying to use band-aids to repair their problems, drafting JaMarcus Russell and DHB... and trading 1st rounders for old NE DLinemen.

A quote from Rodney Harrison, about Seymour being traded to the Raiders:

""He's not thrilled," said Harrison, now an analyst for NBC's Football Night in America. "Who would be thrilled to go to the Oakland Raiders? Maybe somebody who's happy to just get a chance but not a guy like Richard Seymour, a five-time Pro Bowler. For a veteran player to go to Oakland at this juncture it's just difficult.

"Put yourself in his position," Harrison added. "He's going from a first-class organization to one of the worst in the NFL. You have the head coach fighting the assistant coaches, the owner involved in the day-to-day operations, guys who don't believe in the quarterback. . . . Tom Brady to JaMarcus Russell? Come on. Is that something to look forward to? Why would he be excited?"

Asked if Seymour would report to the Raiders, Harrison said, "I don't know that. Only Richard knows that. But I wouldn't go to Oakland. There's no way in the world I would go to Oakland. The only way I would report is if they promised they wouldn't franchise me after this year."

Haha, The Raider will waste a 1st round pick. He has one year left on his deal and will very unlikely resign, and possibility very unlikely play this season.

He'll be 30, by week 4. He's "old" by NFL standards.

I heard this Seymour issue could turn into an interesting legal issue.

The Patriots are saying that he's traded and he's no longer theirs. And the Raiders are saying that the trade is contigent on a physical which Seymour hasn't even yet shown up for.

So this could turn out to be a landmark case for the NFL. Because on one side the trade is valid, but on another it isn't. There is a possiblity of Seymour staying in Boston.

He'd be like dirty laundry back in New England.

If it was to a team like the Raiders - and, possibly a #1 pick - in a hot second.

Damn straight. ;)

It's like when I was wheeling-and-dealing in our Ravens Board Mock Draft a few months ago; it's not my fault that other Ravens fans overvalued the players on my team just because I had the Ravens. I ended up with more players than I had starting!
