Your Favorite Hits From The Bal / Pit Rivalry

29 posts in this topic

So, if you could pick only one "hit" over the years between the Ravens and Steelers games, which was your favorite?

Was it Ryan Clark laying the wood on McGahee? Bart Scott dropping the hammer on Big Ben? Or was it another (so many to choose from!)?

Post your favorites here, and extra brownie points if you provide us with a link!

And please, keep the smack talk to a minimum; this is meant to be a "fun" thread rejoicing the NFL's best and toughest rivalry.

it would probably be bart scotts hit on big ben. ben later said that was the hardest he had been hit in his life. another would be last year when mendenhall said he would have a great game against the ravens, and then this first carry against us he was crushed by ray lewis, out for the season.

It wasnt Mendenhall's first carry but yea I agree. It wasnt really a big hit but I like it just because it should him up and taught him a lesson. Just shows how much force Ray Lewis' hits have.

Why the hell would anyone like the Ryan Clark hit on McGahee? As soon as that play happened I totally forgot about how we were going to lose the game and was concerned if he would ever walk again. That was a very scary moment.

Big Ben getting sacked by the Madbacker was amazing. I remember being at the game and hearing it!

For the same reason Ravens' fans brag about Ray Lewis taking out Mendenhall?

This thread is open to Steelers fans as well, so I threw that in there as an example.

Ray Ray stuffing Bam in KC... stopped the big boy cold...

Same for the hit on Eddie George that made George cringe before Ravens hits ever after...

But from the Ravens Pitt Rivalry, I would say the lick scott lay on ben

Hate to say, but the Hines hit on Reed was one that put a smile on my face. It wasn't a blindside hit that is being taken out of today's game, so it was a technical clean shot.

I doubt the league considers a Helmet to Helmet hit a clean shot.

My favorite hit form the Ravens-Steelers was probably Ray's hit on Mendenhall last year. It happened so fast and it right in the middle of a bunch of bodies. I'm anxious to see if Mendenhall hits the hole hard this year.

I hate to admit it but another good hit was Limas Sweed stonewalling Corey Ivy in the AFC 'chip last year. Ivy never saw it coming.

Go ahead and give me negative ratings.

1.) The title said for Ravens AND Steelers fans.

2.) Did Ed Reed or any Raven ever say anything about the hit and that it was dirty?

3.) I'm pretty sure the only 2 people who truly know if that impact was from the crown of the helmet or Hine's arms are Hines and Ed.

4.) If I thought the play was dirty, I wouldn't have brought it up as my favorite hit in this series.

If this hit is proven as dirty, I will retract my initial statement and choose another hit, but till then that one is my choice.

lol, I have a stalker too who gives me negative ratings if I don't dot my "i" properly; kinda cute that someone is so infatuated with me :)

I'm not going to comment on the Ward hit, only because from the best I could tell it was helmet to helmet....the fact the refs didnt call it really doesnt mean anything because they screw up enough as it is, and Reed isnt the type to whine about something like that.
But as you said, until deemed otherwise, it was a legit hit, and a heck of a one at that.

Ironically, one of MY favorite hits was one Reed put on Ward. I don't remember which year (I want to say 2006), but the instant Hines grabbed the pass, Reed looked like a purple missile streaking across the field and absolutely jacked up Ward from behind. I had no idea Ed had it in him! Then Ward pops up with that damn grin on his face, and god only knows how, but he held onto the ball.

I can't remember that play with Ed hitting Hines... hmm.. Is it on Youtube cause I can't find it, I'd love to see it though. I know people hate Hines and that infamous grin that he has, I think its like when someone cuts you off in traffic and they think you were wrong. They start flicking you off and going ape crazy. Instead of getting angry back, you just smile and wave politely, that will drive them crazier than you giving them the finger right back.

Can't blame Hines Ward for doing it since it obviously works as a psychological tactic.

But with that said, even if he were a Raven, I wouldn't agree with his style of play. But that's neither here nor there.

Getting back to the original hit itself that you mentioned, I have to admit that it's a borderline, bang-bang play. Things happen so quickly that it's hard to determine just from one or two angles whether it was clean. But it doesn't matter now because what's done is done and that's another hit to Hines Ward's collection (and another bad memory for Ed Reed.) I wouldn't pinpoint that one play as being responsible for Reed's neck impingement, but it certainly could've contributed to it.

Stay classy Randy. Hopefully, the moderator pays you a visit and informs you of the forum rules. So far in your 5 posts you have contributed nothing football related.

Since we are going outside of the box, my favorite hit would have to be the one that Ray Lewis put on K. Winslow that caused the ball to fly up in the air and get intercepted. Hey by the way do the steeler have a website? Just a question!

It's a close toss up between my two fave Ravens/Stooler moments....one being the Bart Scott destruction of Big Jen and the second being Jamal Lewis driving Joey Porter into the dirt in Pitt putting his mouthy self in his rightful place

Easily number one has to be Bart Scotts hit on Roethlisberger. At least Ben was wearing his helmet when he got hit by that truck. If you want to watch it over and over again like i do here you go... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcwXBMDk9p0&feature=fvw.
