Perfect Preseason

25 posts in this topic

It means we are going to win the superbowl... yeah thats right.

Last time we had a perfect preseason, it was the 2000 season...

So ya, that just proves everything. :D
Beck's two touchdown passes led the Ravens to their first 4-0 preseason since the 2000 Super Bowl season.
Oh and I realize there is a typo in my topic title... IF a mod could change that to Preseason, that'll be great.

lol. But, we all know that the 2008 Detroit Lions have proven that the complete opposite also holds true. So, obviously let's hope that we're more like the 2000 Ravens!

Perfect preseason means this board is going to go into epic meltdown mode after the first loss because it will count.

We dont compare to the Lions at all. When is the last time the Lions made the playoffs, or had a winning record? Case rested.

I cant remember the exact numbers or even in which favor they went but last year right after the Lions went 4-0 in the preseason ESPN showed the stats of teams who had an unbeaten preseason. If my memory is correct the overwheleming majority went on to make the playoffs or atleast have a winning record. That putrid franchise called the Lions is the exception not the rule.

ESPN showed the statistics that last year 4/4(possibly 3/4) teams in the AFC who won the division in the preseason also won it in the reg season.

Hey, the Dolphins were putrid two years ago and we were happy to give them their only win. We have to face that putrid Lyon team this year. Facing good teams can make you better, but facing bad teams can make you worse.

I'm not going to put much stock into the actual pre-season record but the individual play of players like Flacco, Rice, Mason, Washington, Oher, Suggs and Foxworth is very encouraging.

I said FRANCHISE not team. There is a difference between a team having a bad year, ie the Dolphins of 07, and a franchise that has proven to not be capable of fielding a competitive football team. I am no expert on the Lions or Dolphins but the Dolphins dont have the extensive history of being a loser that the Lions have and neither do we.

Pre-season shows a strong 53+ roster. It could be assumed the Lions apparently had a strong 2nd and 3rd team (don't quote me on that), but first team is what really wins the games. The Ravens has an elite 1st and 2nd team (minus Oline).

By the time we faced Miami in 07, the Ravens were in full meltdown mode, most of the Vets had tuned Billick out completely, we had guys coming off of the street to start at CB in addition to all of the other injuries that had piled up by that point. The Ravens clearly only got up for one game that year (New England) then they packed it in.

This is a totally different culture now, it's doubtful that THIS team will play down to a weaker opponent like they did under Billick. By all means the Ravens should absolutely dismantle the Detroit Lions.

Miami was able to turn the corner so quickly last season, because they were able to add a veteran quarterback who for the most part (save his two performances against us) was able to limit mistakes, they had a solid rushing attack, and caught a lot of teams off guard with trick plays (save their two games against us) I think Detriot will win a game or two this year, but it won't be in Baltimore that's for sure

Well if you had said FRANCHISE instead of franchise the first time maybe I might have gotten it right. It was just an observation that a team's intensity often follows that of their opponent. If we had played with the same intensity we did against the Steelers we should have been 14-2 last year. The Ravens FRANCHISE has shown itself to be inconsistent over time and during the course of a season so let's not take ANYONE for granted regardless of records. It's amazing how worked up people can get on these forums!!!!!

I think most people dont get the thread... It was more of a joke then being serious, because yes it is just preseason, and yes our first guys werent in all the time...

But I was making the comparison to the last time we had a perfect preseason, and that was when we won the super bowl.. :D

So lets not get touchy.
