If I Were Coach For A Day....

10 posts in this topic

Well preseason is over...and wow! The Ravens look strong!

However, there is obviously somethings that need tweeked

Here is what I humbly see needs worked on if I were coach for a day :D :

Ball security - Too many fumbles <_<

Defending pass rush - Still getting to Joe too often :(

Special teams across the board - generally needs to be stronger B)

What would you focus on?

Ball security for one. And work on the trenches meaning make them not jump offsides, encroach, neutral zone infraction, false start.

kick coverage has stuck out which seems odd because we have so many talented ST players... if anyone has watched any Pittsburgh games this pre-season, Stephan Logan is ligit.. if you give him a 6 inch hole, he'll turn it into 6 points before you have time to blink..

secondly, too many dropped balls, but the top 4 WRs are pretty set in stone for now IMO and they've all looked pretty good (excluding clayton) so we should be alright.. I've seen Heap drop a few this pre-season, too, which worries me if he wants to be a focal point in this offense, but also he has shown signs of the Heap we all know and love. Basically, I'd like to see more consistency out of not only Heap, but our WR corps as a whole.

I would work on three things

1. Avid rest/recovery for starters. Fresh bodies play better. I want the 28 or so guys that are our "CORE" to be completely healthy and ready to go full speed.

2. Communication. It seems missed assignments on O and D are a minor issue. Whether it be communicating on the 0-line for blitz pick up, or the D secondary figuring out who has who (Washington touchdown in Jets game)

3. Special Teams fluidity. Snap and Holds must be better. Kicks must be better. Coverage on kicks should be better. Too many guys abandoning lanes.

All in all I think this team is geared for a huge year. Health needs to be primary. I honestly believe our declining health, particularly in the secondary is what kept the Ravens from ousting the Steelers in the AFC championship game.

Pretty much what I was going to say. That, and slap some pine tar on Harper's hands before the game.

I would just try to work on basic penalties: offsides, holding, illegal blocking, and so on.

A lot of defensive stands were stopped last year because of stupid penalties. Even if some were bogus, don't even give the refs a chance to call it.

If Our run first offense starts at 1st and 15 then you know its gunna end up with a punt, unless cam decides to ease off flacco this year.

if i was coach for a day i would say stuff like this

replace petey with webb
[after Petey makes a fumble]
Coach Boone: Petey, how many feet are in a mile? How many feet are in a mile?
Petey Jones: [mumbles]
Coach Boone: 5,280 feet! You pick this ball up and run every one of 'em! You're killing me, Petey! You're killing me!

this would be my opening statement
We will be perfect in every aspect of the game. You drop a pass, you run a mile. You miss a blocking assignment, you run a mile. You fumble the football, and i will break my foot off in your John Brown hind parts and then you will run a mile. Perfection. Let's go to work.

yea i'd go coach boone on em

Defending the pass rush is my biggest concern.

Speaking of coaches, has anyone else noticed that Brian Billick was an offensive mastermind and we saw how he brought his offense to Baltimore. Now we have Harbaugh, who spent the last decade as a special teams coordinator and now our special teams... leave much to be desired to say the least.
