Ravens Not A Real Team?

46 posts in this topic

The fans in these counties (Montgomery,Prince Georges&Southern MD),continue to explain their lack of support fo the Ravens. It's not just because they live closer to DC. The fact that the Cleveland Browns moved here made us less than a Authentic team. Come on now! There are teams such as The Titans,Colts etc who started out in other cities and moved to another town. Especially the Colts! The Colts left Bmore and didnt change the name,Logo or uniform. I think if you wanna bash a team for this, the Colts should be #1 on the list. But, this happens in Basketball and Baseball. People dont buy tickets,Teams move!! Owners sell Teams,Period!! No organization is immune to it! Their Displeasure for our team is Hideous and Redundant! I think their hatred really stems from the Ravens being the Big Brother. The Skins are the little bro who wishes he could beat the Big Bro but cant! lol

Skins fans are just salty that we have had more success than them since 1996.

I don't know why they care if we are the Browns who moved from Cleveland because they were once the Boston Redskins.

It's just frustration because their organization hasn't been a consistent winner in a while. You'd feel the same about the Redskins if both fanbases switched sides and the Redskins were instead transplants while the Ravens had a storied history.

Just let it go. I mean, Delawareans should technically be Ravens fans instead of Eagles fans, but you don't see many Ravens fans in Delaware like myself making a huge fuss about it. Regional support varies due to different social factors. In this case, the people living in those counties mostly had been forced to become Redskins fans after the Colts left; switching allegiences when you invest so much time and money into a team isn't easy, as most Baltimore Colts fans know. It wasn't so simple for every fan in Maryland to suddenly become a Ravens fan, especially when the team wasn't successful for the first three or four years of its inception.

There is merrit to your point. However, there is nuthin for us a Baltimore Citizens/Raven Fans to let go! You have to understand that since we live soooo close to the skins fans 30miles apart, They can be annoying at times. Plus some live in bmore with us. Its hard to ignore somebody who doesnt wanna be ignored. We see these guy at Walmart all the time. There are a multitude of Steeler fans in Bmore as well. But,they arent as annoying as the Skin fans. Its a difference between talkin trash to a team you beat, and talkin trash to teams you never beat! The steelers beat us. So they have room to talk. The Skins on the other hand Suck! Thats not only my opinion, but Pure Fact! We dont beef about them staying Skins Fans in MD Suburbs either. History Dont Win Games!! Good Teams Do! So, in terms of letting go, I think that applies to the Skins Fans!!

I'm a Montgomery County Hardcore Ravens fan. Ofcourse I use to be in Baltimore County. But more and more when I walk around Montgomery County I see an increased amount of Ravens fans. You can't fault Prince Georges county because Fedex Field is in their turf. And Southern, MD is pretty much an extension of PG & DC.

But Redskins do have a long history in the area. But the more years the Ravens play in Baltimore, then more increase support we will get from these counties. Give it time.

I just wish suburban Marylanders would all see that the Redskins are really Northern Virginia's team (despite the Fedex field being in MD). Especially the transplants and immigrants.

It's roughly 30-40 miles from my neck of the woods to Philadelphia, too. I hear plenty of trash talk from Eagles fans, so it's not as if I don't get what you're saying about how annoying it is to hear trash-talk from fans of teams that have never really beaten the Ravens, especially not on a regular basis. But at the same time, when I say "let it go," I mean just let go of the negativity. They hate us (they, being Eagles and Redskins fans.) That's fine. Let them hate.

Eagles fans never experienced a Super Bowl victory, and Redskins fans in this generation haven't experienced one in their lifetime. Just let the words go and let them look stupid, because as you're saying, only good teams win games, right? So, when the regular season rolls around, let each team's record speak for itself. The trash-talk might not end, but you'll feel that much better for how stupid people look for talking that trash.

I remember going out to dinner with a hardcore Steeler fan - a Cardiologist. He proceeded to tell me (this was a year ago) that by being a Ravens fan I had to be, by default, a Browns fan. After figuring out what a jerk he was (this was the first time I met him) and wanting to wring his neck, I realized that he was just an ignorant ******. I've let it go with these types...there's at least one in every crowd.

I think yall are missin the point of this Post. My point was that the majority dont consider us a real team. I could care less if we convert them to become believers of modern-day success as Raven fans. Everyone has a choice of who they cheer for and support. But, It's the ridiculous points Skin fans try to live by which doesnt make sense. I wouldnt care if Raven fans consisted of only Bmore citizens. But, it does feel good to have outside support. That wasnt my point though!

I don't think those fans speak for the majority. Most of my family roots for the Redskins (I have a lot of family in VA and that area of MD), and they respect the Ravens enough -- and it's not necessarily for my sake because some of us aren't the most loving individuals towards one another. -_-

But my point is, don't let the ridiculous nature in which fans justify their fanhood affect you. Being a fan doesn't always entail logic, remember? (Ask anyone who became a Lions fan even after 0-16)

I live in P.G. County and it's pretty freaking clear that I am a Ravens fan, even if I am a drop of purple in a sea of burgundy and gold, or *shudder* yellow and black.

On the other hand, it has given me some great skills on being able to hold my own in the trash talking at the bar when people start in on the Ravens.

FedEx is a dump, Jason Campbell sucks, their owner is a t ard, and they chronically overpay washed-up/overrated players. Who's the chump team again?

My dad said he felt the same way when the first moved here, they were still the Cleveland Browns to him. But when almost all the Browns players left and new coaches ect, he became a fan. The year 2000 was the first year he was really into the Ravens.

Hate to make blanket statements like this, but Skins fans truly are, as a whole, some of the most annoying cretins walking the face of the planet.

I actually like the majority of Steelers fans that I've met online; the ones I meet in person, not so much.

Dont pay them any mind...if Baltimore sucked for as long as they have, and been embarrassed by them as much as we have them, I'd be bitter too.

I work among the fans who wear Burgundy and Yellow (call it gold all ya want it is yellow), I am surprised at the lack of true football knowledge I run into.

They cannot grasp that a football team is only as successful as its line (offensive and defensive)

They continually throw 80 Years of history at me , then are stumped when I show them that 3 championships in eighty years is not great.

They have become more bearable as I help to raise the collective intelligence of the fan base, but it is a long long process that frankly might not amount to much in the end, as Snyder and his staff destroy a once proud franchise and his own fan base.

It's been 13 years, and there are Browns in Cleveland. I don't see why people even bring this up.

But D.C. fans? Really? Where did the Nationals come from??

Teams move, it does not make them less "real".

How they feel doesnt really affect as much as you think. I posted this to see how fellow Raven fans think and feel about it. I'm sure we all feel the same about those losers. Especially those of us who live close to them. Its easy to encourage someone to ignore the negativity of people you live next door to. I understand your point as well about the Deleware/Philly thing and thats a different experience of your own. But, those of us who are Bmore residents/Raven fans will only understand the annoying feeling because we live here and experience this stupid Beltway thing. Dig this, We haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate the Steelers! But aren't annoyed by them as much as the Skin Fans. They actually compete every year with us. I know my neighbors feel me though! Not saying you don't. But just not to the extent that Balimore people do.

Actually, I think you have to understand you can't control other people. It's actually quite easy to ignore people regardless of their intention. You just have to do one thing: not care what they think or say.

Why you're raging about this is beyond me. I guess you're being territorial or something. But you need to quit making the "!" work overtime and not worry about what somebody from a particular county thinks. When you stop letting what other people think bug you, you'll be a happier person.

as i have said, this post must be intended for those of us who actually live here and experience the madness of the so-called beltway brawl. I've noticed that none of my neighbors are telling me to ignore other counties and skin fans. They wont becuz its the beauty of competition and the nature of being a fan of any team. You're makin it tooo personal buddy! Thats why I've made it clear that I understand the Deleware/Philly beef. I wouldnt tell you to chill out becuz thats your local beef with that team. Its normal for rival fans to debate and agrue. Thats what builds up the tention when our teams meet up. If you understand the term "Rivalry" you'll understand that fans have to play their part. Regardless of how I feel about the Skins fans, Its all good becuz its natural!!!!!!

I'm a member of the oldest Baltimore Pro Football fan club in the DC area, Ravens Nest 9 in Bowie, MD. We started out as Colts Corral 31 in 1977, became Roost 31 when the Ravens came here and became Nest 9 in 2001. Our membership is small and we now meet on "as needed" basis, but we have had some good times in our history and raised money for various causes. Our future may be bleak but we have been proud to support the Colts, Stars, Stallions and Ravens.

Oh,the thing about controlling other people is redundant bro. This is Sports Talk. Theres worst statements made about the Steelers and how they think and feel about us. But, It's foolish to tell a fan to chill or stop tryin to control other people. Thats crazy!! I guess you couldnt comprehend my point about being a fan. Especially a fan involved in a Local beef. You mite as well tell every Raven fan to Chill out and Stop worrying about the Steeler and skin Fans. Its not worrying, but competition

Sounds like a bandwagon fan to me. Alot of people moved over to the Ravens after they won the SB. I have been a Ravens fan since Modell brought the team to Baltimore. Prior to that, I was a diehard Baltimore Colts fan and I did not align myself with any team in the NFL until the Ravens came to Bmore.
