Ravens Should Pick Up ...........

30 posts in this topic

Recently the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just released WR Dexter Jackson . I know , I know , he's not that much proven of a receiver , but come on Imagine this , Jackson , running with his 4.27 speed catching up to Joe Flacco's Amazing bombs . You can't say that someone is not fantasizing about that other than me . This is the one element that the ravens are missing right now , A DEEP THREAT !!!

Is it worth anything that the Buccaneers are cutting him?!? We already have a small speedier guy in Clayton. Jackson is 6'0'' 210lb.

A deep threat for us will eventually be a jump-ball type player. 6'3, 6'4'' with fast lengthy legs.

I think we can do just fine with Mason and Clayton (if he comes back strong), I've really liked what Washington has done in the preseason and DWill may actually stay healthy this year. Clayton was plenty of a deep threat for me last year, Joe missed on a few shots that could have been huge.

past all that , don't you think the only thing we need is a home run wide receiver , I love mason , he's a great route runner , but we need someone on the other side that makes defenses game plan against

Seriously people, this free agent wide receiver talk needs to cease. The team doesn't have to look at every wide receivers that's been cut or is a free agent. They are there for a reason. Ozzie has shown he's comfortable with the current receiving corps and honestly, so am I. Yes, they could use a complete #1 receiver but there aren't any walking the streets and it will cost a lot to trade for one. The team will make do with what they have and I definitely see them being successful with the players they have.

I am totally cool with the recievers we got but I believe Dexter Jackson has a lot of potential. I mean the dude was a 2008 2nd round pick. We should atleast snag him for our practice squad.

that's what I mean , if we could look at dj hacket and tab perry and even sign drew bennet , what's the harm in looking into jackson , you guys didn't have a problem with those other moves

Another player who got cut, which surprises me, is Roderick Hood who was competing for a starting job in Cleveland. He played with the Eagles and was also with the Arizona Cardinals last year. I don't like to speculate but I wouldn't be totally surprised if Harbaugh picked him up being as Rolle is on the PuP for 6 weeks.

I totally agree. I actually wanted us to take Dexter Jackson last year instead of Ray Rice. At the time we had a boat load of HBs and our WR corps was questionable.

I don't think we would have to cut anyone right away since Rolle is on the PuP for 6 weeks.

but we r still in the process of getting down to 75 players so we would have to cut someone i thought.. does rolle not count against us on the 75 man roster?

Should he be cut, I would prefer to bring in Reggie Brown, who has proven himself on this level... Jackson hasn't showed anything.

Neither has Marcus Smith but yet we kept him. I am not saying we will bring him in but I wouldnt be surprised if we did.

and I am pretty sure players on the PuP list are safe from the 53 player roster cuts, not positive though so I will look it up.

Edit: talks of a 49er player on the PuP and states that he can be eligible for the 53 man roster after 6 weeks.

Isn't that the business of football , cut a bad player for another player with potential , remember guys , we was only one game away from the superbowl , and ray is not getting any younger , we need to play for now , and we need young fast guys to compliment our offense , did you not see how spectacular Flacco played all this preseason , a little speed never hurt .

I totally agree. I mean we got Yamon Figurs and Eron Riley on our roster right now. I feel Dexter has more talent than both of them. combined. times 5. I definitely think a team will pick up Dexter I just hope it isnt Pittsburgh.

I actually like that idea as well, Hood's a big, physical corner who can actually cover. He struggled abit in Cleveland in the preseason according to ESPN AFC North guy James Walker. But he has big game experience almost his entire career with Philly and Arizona. I think hes worth a look, hes an upgrade from anything else we have working in the slot right now.

Plus he has worked with Harbaugh before.

I think he's listed as a receiver only because they had to give him an official title by default. A receiver he is not, a speed demon he is.

I've seen him return kicks and punts, and I'll be the first to say that his specialty is outrunning his blockers and/or running right into them. I mean if your going to run right into them thats probably one of the few times you wish you didn't run so fast! plus I've seen him get tripped up on blades of grass, and seeing how small he is that wouldn't surprise me. If it isn't the grass its the gust of wind. Basically you don don't need to tackle him, he tackles himself.

Every team will be reducing its roster, from 80 to 53, in the next week. That's over 800 players... including a significant number of WRs.

Next week should bring gobs of WR speculation on here... :D

This reminds me exactly of someone we already have ... Yamon Figurs. Fast guy who can play receiver. It doesn't mean he should play receiver.

Dexter can't play WR, his only claim to fame besides his speed is his game against Michigan when his App State Mountaineers pulled off that miracle win. Gruden reached for Dexter in the 2nd round and one year later he's not even on the team and got replaced by an undrafted player!!

People have this misconception that a so called "deep threat" is going to all of the sudden make the Ravens this unstoppable team. It all starts with the O-line, not WR's. If you are strong up the middle of the field (O-line,QB,HB,FB,) then you probably have a very good chance at winning. If the O-line can protect Flacco without the help of TE's staying in then you will see the Ravens passing offense start to do some things. Also, if Flacco can continue to improve and scan the field to find his open receivers instead of going to Mason every play, that will improve the passing game as well. This is never going to be the Patriots or Indianapolis offense but this year I have a feeling that they will be much more balanced which makes it a VERY dangerous unit with the kind of running game that we have already. Another thing is, that with the progression of Flacco, Cam Cameron will feel more comfortable letting him throw in more situations, and attack down the middle of the field. Let's stop worrying about WR's that aren't coming here and start worrying about who is going to be kicking field goals with the entire season potentially being on the line at some point

I'm just saying , instead of them adding another tight end in the practice squad for no reason , or another DT , we should just try to improve the offense , just to give us another threat on offense , isn't the nfl about giving chances to young talent

I still believe we'll make it back to the championship with our defense , and I'm putting my trust in Joe Flacco that he'll actually give us some balance on offense so we can push it to the next step .

Just saw on the bottom line on ESPN that the Bears have picked of Rod Hood..there goes that idea. I think we are fine with who we have but in years past we have been killed by zero depth in the secondary so maybe it would have been a good thing.

I don't think so. I think we're just fine on wide receivers.

come on guys have an open mind about this , our offense needs as much explosion as our defense .
IMO at this point I would rather see the Ravens try to bring in a veteran Tackle, and a serviceable kicker because there aren't any WR's out there that are any better than what we have already with the exception of he who's name we do not speak of
