Xbox Or Ps3?

13 posts in this topic

hey everyone

after sitting around pissed playing madden 08 for like 2 years now i really thought of finally giving in to EA (no PC Versions anymore)

Since i live in Europe my biggest concern is getting and playing NCAA & Madden Series (they don't even distribute them in germany anymore) and even NFL Head Coach

So what platform should it be? XBox360 or PS3
I am used to PS3 controllers as i had them for my PC. But thats minor.

I also heard that the PS3 has no region code so i could purchase NCAA in the US and play it on my PS3 whereas i'd have to flash xbox to the right region code.

thanks

If you want to play imported games I would definitely go with a PS3 because of the Region code issue! Xbox 360's are locked, PS3s are not.

You should check out Play.com

They deliver FREE within the UK, and FREE outside of the UK to countries to which they export (including Germany.) However, they only deliver DVDs, games, books, and clothing outside of the UK. Delivery policy here.

And yes, I'd definitely suggest getting a PlayStation 3. Even though both consoles are technically more expensive outside of North America, the PS3 is still the better overall value. It has a lower hardware failure rate, comparable game library (console exclusivity is a thing of the past now), and larger feature set (Blu-Ray, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth connectivity, etc.)

And another unadvertised feature is that PS3 game discs (Blu-ray) don't scratch as easily with regular wear-and-tear. The coating on the disc itself makes it more resistant to degradation over time than a regular DVD.

Yeah... i was pretty undecided. but since EA Sports decided to s*** donkey d***s and quit producing madden for pc as well as quit publishing football games in germany i'll have to go with the ps3 since the regionlock is still active on xbox360. so i can play imported versions w/o having to mod the hardware (and losing warranty which can be a pain - ring of death) and the price is almost the same.

Did i mention online play on the ps3 is free as well? ;)

the ps3 is REGION LOCKED just not for games the PS3 slim is locked for BR movies but not games further more the PS3 has a smaller hd size at 80Gb the 360 has a 250GB model coming in the fall called the Super Elite. also the ps3 right now has game companies still jumping ship it takes 14-21 months for 1 game and tripple the production cap of a 360/pc game also the games are less lucrative cause the ps3 can only be on the ps3 and porting takes Conciderable reprogramming.

The HD size is a moot point because the hard drive can be upgraded with any 2.5" drive, so upgrading can actually be cheap. That's opposed to the 360's proprietary drive. 250GB seems like a lot now, but very soon, with the shift to HD content and the rise in digital downloads by the average consumer, all of that hard drive space can be eaten up VERY quickly.

Also, it's a myth that the PS3 has a lot of game companies jumping ship for Microsoft; actually, the opposite is holding true. Initially, the development kit for the PS3 wasn't very intuitive, but over time, developers have learned to work with and around the advanced hardware and there are many companies that now prefer it. In other words, developers were too lazy two years ago. ;)

Not only that, but there's no such thing as console exclusivity these days. With the recession, it's not economic for publishers and developers to produce games for just one console. There are many "exclusives" that are now being released on both consoles, with more coming in the future. And if anything, it's easier for developers to develop for the PS3 and then port DOWN to the 360. It's cheaper to produce multi-platform for a big-budget title than just release on one console since revenue is brought back exponentially and the marketing budget is shared by both Microsoft and Sony rather than just one company. Additionally, the rights for console-exclusive DLC for a multi-platform title is another new tactic that helps developers, as it gives each console's install base an even playing field.

All PS3 games so far have been region free which is what he wants to know! He can import games without a problem. The same can't be said for the 360!

And in terms of Blu Ray movies, as of now 70% of all Blu Ray titles that have been released are region free and can be played on any Blu Ray player.

Thanks for all the input guys. still waiting for my copy of madden 10 but i got my ps3 slim.
So far i really really happy with it. Works like a charm. and once you figured how to access the US or HK PS Store you can access lots of stuff (german store sucks).

Even played Madden 10 Demo and it looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good in comparison to NFL 08 on my PC ;)

And yes the main point was the possibility to import games w/o having to mod the system (bios or chips or anything).
I won't say PS3 is superior to the XBox360 but so far i'm more than pleased with the PS3.

Thats because EA has been lazy with their PC ports of Madden in the last years and hasn't given it the Next Gen makeover yet. They really need to start, madden 10 for PC is scheduled to be ported. Its about time, PC gamers like me have rigs 5x more powerful than any console , and were stuck with crappy ea ports. Other than EA, every other Publisher and designer have been catering to the PC platform.
