I'm just curious who you guys wanted last year after you beat the Titans. I'm sure we talked about it then, but I don't really remember.

I wanted the Steelers in a revenge game for the two prior losses in the regular season. However, the Chargers ideally would've been an easier opponent since Rivers was somewhat banged up and Sproles likely would've been shut down by the Ravens defense. Also, a warm-weather game in San Diego (despite the travel) would've been easier on the players than a cold-weather game in Pittsburgh.

A Ravens Super Bowl victory would've felt hollow without defeating the Steelers to reach the big game, in a storybook-like ending. Think about it: Flacco avenges losses against two regular season opponents in the Titans and Steelers, and becomes the first rookie to win three road playoff games and, along with John Harbaugh, becomes the first rookie head coach-QB combination to win the Super Bowl in their first season together. And it all would've been in Tampa, the site of the Ravens' first Super Bowl victory.

It was all laid out perfectly, and the Steelers had to ruin the storybook ending to an otherwise great season. -_-

I know EXACTLY what you mean. And I figured that sentiment would be alive around here.

I wanted the Titans for revenge, but I also did not want to see the Ravens again:
1). We barely won the previous two games.
2). Sweeps are incredibly hard to come by in this rivalry as it is and;
3). Beating ANY TEAM three times in one season is almost unheard of anymore.

BTW - The reason I ask is because I was watching the Steelers/Chargers game and the thought came up.

I'd rather the Chargers because I never want the Steelers to win. It was nice to face the Steelers again to try to get revenge, but I will never hear the end of "We beat you 3 times", ugh, more like "I will personally beat YOU 3 times."

It WILL end this season. :P
But I feel your pain. Whenever I wear my jersey to church, my "friend" is like a broken record.

I did want the Chargers. If we had to play the Steelers and they beat us, and then they won the superbowl, I wouldn't be able to handle that on my concious. Wait a minute....that did happen. That sucked!

Now if we would have beat the Steelers, I would have answered Steelers. Because like Franchise says, storybook ending.

I wanted the Steelers to win, because San Diego wouldve shredded our already depleted secondary.

I wanted Pittsburgh for two reasons:

1) Revenge, and the storybook ending that was mentioned
2) I was certain that the winner of Pittsburgh/Baltimore would beat down the dirty birds over in AZ, thus guaranteeing that the Lombardi came home to the AFC North where it belongs.

I'm going to be honest, the Ravens were beat up and luckily the Steelers aren't a fast team but more brutal than most like the Ravens so I was honestly rooting for them. I really think we would of lost worse against the chargers because of the speed the team has. My case for this is everyone saw Chris Johnson run all over the Ravens and then Leon Washington did it last game, Small fast halfbacks are the secret to beating the Ravens and it is sad that people who are paid to spot the weaknesses of the Ravens haven't noticed this. Sproles would have had a field day with us to be fair. I'll take the Steelers big RB's any day of the week over these damn pests.

EDIT: Also the Chargers have big physical receivers playing our third string + CB's. That Vincent Jackson kid would have ran all over our secondary and I'm pretty sure reed wouldn't try to tackle him.

I wanted the Chargers to win because I thought the Ravens had a better chance to beat them. I could have been wrong, but that's what I thought. Sure, it would have been nice to beat the Steelers, but if that didn't happen [and it obviously didn't] I knew some Steelers fans would be obnoxious about it [and I was right]. Still, the Steelers were a great team and had a great year - and the Ravens gave us a great year, too.

And there's always this year to take it a couple of steps further!

Given that we'd lost narrowly twice to the Steelers, I wanted to a matchup to get revenge in the big game.

Plus, as I'd gone to the Miami and Tennessee games, I was hoping for Pitt so I could attend (I did). San Diego would have been one expensive plane ticket too far for me.

No, I disagree with this...we can shut those guys down. Willie Parker, Brian Westbrook and Clinton Portis had very little success against us.
The secret to beating us is has usually been to exploit our pass rush and beat us deep....which SD is certainly capable of, but I still think we would have beaten them, because LT is the key to their success.

Why does that sound familiar? Did Tomlin say that? Whoever it was, that is an excellent quote.

Jeez warden, you beat us 3 times last year, now you're trying to steal our quotes?? :D
That's what Harbaugh said when asked to comment on Bart Scott's comments about how Ryan ran the team last year. Amazing the difference between Harbs and Ryan, isn't it? We definitely made the right decision!!

It depends on the situation. Would we be playing Chargers at home? Or flying cross country to play them? If it was a home game i'd MUCH rather play the Chargers. Easier team to beat. My only concern is stopping Sproles and Tomlinsons run game. Are our corners top notch to stop Phillip Rivers from throwing the ball all over us? It depends on the injury list and the situation were the time to come. I'd love playing Pittsburgh. Its always a tough knock em down game and that to me is what football's all about. But with the Superbowl on the line I think i'd shift a bit more towards the Chargers. Then agian.. i'd love to beat the steelers and run away with a win en route to the superbowl!!!!!!

The situation is last years' Championship game. As a wildcard team, the Ravens would have traveled to SD.
