Hey Everyone, do anybody knows what's the meaning of the sign Fabian does after every play he does ? T.Gooden does it too now ! so i'd like to know if other players do that, and if u know where is that coming from ? for me it looks like a West Coast sign, but i don't know if i'm right...

It's just something the DBacks started doing last year. They got it from Corey Ivy. Brendan Haywood of the Wizards does it as well.

When the wannabe wrestler john cena first came into wrestling wearing pink tights and started talking for the first time on the mic with another wrestler, he went on a tangent about nothing trying to sound smart. He was trying to say something for a second as a comeback but he ended up saying "you can't see me". Later he just tried to play it off by using it in a rap. A few years went by and that became part of his gimmick, and the new wwe fans of today-mostly kids, buy into whatever vince mcmahon puts in front of them. Eventually Cena became a first tier and main event wrestler and now whenever he says "you can't see me" he waves his fingers in front of his face and uses it before he does his finishers, he has even incorporated it into his theme music.

Basically its stupid, and the sign and phrase really means nothing, and i find it childish when i see Fabian Washington do it, i lost some respect for him. And its even worse now that Gooden is doing it too. But you would never see mature guys like Ray Lewis behave that way, but we don't have too many vets left of the roster.

It has two main connotations:

1) "You Can't See Me" -- as used by WWE's John Cena
2) "Hi Hater" -- song by rapper Maino

Either way, I don't mind it. It's like Michael Strahan and the Giants defense doing the "Ballin'" celebration.

Actually there was a 2pac song titled "Cant C Me" long before that wrestling dude started his little hand gesture.

"Another way of saying that you are untouchable and put everybody else to shame. Basically means you are unstoppable because if a person or thing can't see you they can't catch and/or attack you. Even though you are entirely visible it is a way of telling somebody that they can't **** with you and they are not on your level."

When they do the hand gesture I think the are referencing the idea above, not some stupid wrestler turned rapper

This is true, but keep in mind, how many players do you think really remember that particular 2Pac song when it first came out, especially since it wasn't a single? -_-

I like this explanation.
"You can't see me... and that's why I tackled you."

Actually, it better describes Ed Reed before he picks off a ball.
"You can't see me and that's why I'm running this ball in for the touchdown."

Not sure. I know I remembered it, and when you guys were first talking about the whole "you cant see me" thing I actually thought ya'll were referencing Tupac's song - a good song too imo.
How could anyone forget George Clinton's intro "The blind stares of a million pairs of eyes lookin' hard but won't realize that they will never see the P"

For people too lazy to be bothered to look up the song we're talking about, it's also on the Madden NFL 10 soundtrack. It's usually one of the first songs played in the main menu.

Yea that song was good. Even I remember the "The blind stares of a million..." quote word for word, even though I rarely listen to rap/hip-hop anymore. That was a great song. Actually my favorite off that double album.

I remember blaring it when I was a teen, it had a nice bass line to it.

Jennifer Huovinen, Essex: Hey Fabian! You're awesome to watch on the field. Everyone up in Section 541 loves it when you wave your hand in front of your face after a big play. I've been calling it the "Magic Man" ("Now you see me, now you don't") because I thought that maybe you got it from the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Is that what it means, or am I way off?

I dont think Hi Hater by Maino has anything to do with the gesture.
It definitely does because I remember Daniel Wilcox speaking about it last season!

Good gosh, there are a lot of people giving answers to something they know nothing about! WOW!

Okay, the first PUBLIC occurrence of the hand waving across your face was in a Tony Yayo video. Everyone, at the time, called it "The Yayo Dance." Notice how I said this was the first public occurrence, as I'm sure it started well before the Yayo video. But this is when it started to blow up.

After that, people started doing it... not knowing what the original meaning was, and giving it their own meaning. For example, people like John Cena the wrestler.

The reason someone above mentioned Maino's "Hi Hater" video, is because Daniel Wilcox(former tight end of the Ravens and one of the biggest presences in the community of all the players) talked about it in an interview. The video doesn't appear to be on the Ravens site anymore, at least... I couldn't find it.

And the worst description of this that I've ever heard was when the tv analysts were talking about it during the Wizards/Cavaliers playoff matchup a couple years ago. They tried to say it meant "Can't feel my face." This, of course, was completely ridiculous. About as ridiculous as that entire series.

Yeah it's pretty much a Can't See Me thing, in English that means "I think I'm very good and your attempts to faze me did not work." Tim Thomas of the NBA also did that after dropping some treys.

That's only half-true. Tony Yayo technically got it from John Cena -- Yayo did it in the video for his lead single, "So Seductive," which came out in 2005. John Cena debuted in 2002 and started doing his rapper gimmick in 2003 -- in which his entrance video with his updated gimmick that year shows he did it before Yayo's so-called "first public occurrence."

But, credit can be given to both because there are many pro athletes who are WWE fans and hip-hop fans regardless.

(Don't try me on my pro wrestling knowledge! I'm a sponge when it comes to useless info)
