Sanchez Named Starting Qb

38 posts in this topic

Ugh, I knew he would be named the starter, but part of me was hoping I was wrong. Honestly, I think there's going to be an increase in rookie QBs starting after the success of Flacco and Ryan. Hell, I was watching the Tampa/Miami game and they were talking about the Bucs starting Freeman perhaps *shrugs*

I think it's amusing that all these teams think rookie QBs are now insta-success.

Although... I wish Clemens had gotten the job. The poor guy's been there for a few years. One year, he's in position to compete with Pennington for the start. Then Hurricane Favre hits the Jets, and Clemens is kicked to the curb, back to his 2nd String position. Then Favre "retires" and Clemens is poised to finally get his start. Then the Jets draft Sanchez. It's okay though, Clemens will compete with Sanchez. And you know that Clemens knows the offense better than the rookie. However...apparently, a pick six, a near pick six, horrible play, and one TD pass gets the unproven (and still unproven) rookie the start. It's sad, I will laugh though if Clemens leaves the Jets, gets to start elsewhere, and is actually a pretty good quarterback.

As for Rex, it's always annoyed me that since he left, he's been trying to turn the New York Jets, into the New York Ravens. His ego has sky rocketed, and quite frankly, he needs to be put in place. It was kind of irritating to hear about using Bart Scott to create an "identity" on the Jets defense. Don't get me wrong, Scott is good... but he's not exactly an elite linebacker that's going to do for the Jets what Lewis does the Ravens. He may make the Jets defense better, but not an elite defense that's automatically thought of when someone thinks of defensive football.

Marvin Lewis has had no success since he left the Ravens.
Mike Nolan has had no success since he left the Ravens.
Edgerton Hartwell has had no success since he left the Ravens.
Adalius Thomas has not had the success he had on the Ravens... since he left the Ravens.

To be fair though, Thomas has been the most successful of that group. Anyways, I'm ready to add Rex Ryan and Bart Scott to that list. We'll have to wait a few seasons, but I bet Ryan will be regretting the day he chose to take over the Jets.

Ironically, his wife is technically more successful than he is. Other than her appearance on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, she's also apparently an entrepreneur. I think her net worth might be larger than his (even if she does seem to be the gold-digging type)...

ATD, I have the same feelings about Clemens. I hope he does a Pennington. :)

Even though I agree with you and ATD... in thinking that Clemens should start...

If you look at the one season, in '07, where he did start 8 games and played in 10, his stats weren't stellar:

130/250, 52%, 1529 yards, 5 TDs / 10 INTs.

In all fairness, he was sacked 27 times in 8 games...
