So what did you think of him last night? Ten tackles, 8 of them solo, one interception for a TD. But he was covering the RB who Mark Sanchez threw his touchdown to.

I know some of you on here think he's over rated, but I think him and Barnes will be good subs for Gooden.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: I don't think he's overrated. I just heard a few people say that and I just wanted to bring it up for discussion.

Who thinks he's overrated? I love him. He messed up on that play with Washington, but even if he'd got in perfect position he probably wouldn't have been able to aptly cover a guy of Washington's immense quickness for more than 10 yards.
Everytime i've seen him playing he's made plays. Even last season in a very small role as an undrafted rookie became the Franchise leader in safeties and tied the season record. And he showed great instincts getting that pick last night. I think he's a really quality player, and a contender for a starting spot this year.
You know that saying:' 2/3 of earth is covered by water, the other 1/3 is covered by Ed Reed'? Its not true. He bought a boat.

If anything in the above post offended you, then Its a joke!

Yea, I think the majority of people on here do not think he's overrated. In fact many people think he could be competing for starting MLB.

McClain showed us all last year what he can do, and he's just improving upon that this year. He does well storming the line, but I'm not going to trust him to much if he is in pass coverage (even though he did have an INT last night).

I definitely want to see McClain play this year. I think he deserves playing time. He is a good pass rusher. And is getting better at defending the pass. I like his potential

I think we will be switching out LBs this year kind of like how Mattison switches out the DLine to keep everyone fresh. He will get some snaps

Jameel and Tavaris will be a good rotation for that other ILB spot next to Ray Ray.

McClain is another gem the Ravens snatched out of nowhere. He's looked solid in every snap I've seen him, in a couple of years I can see him become a good, quality starter.

Jameel just needs to work on turning to the ball when in coverage because he is in quite good position every time in coverage

I dont see how a second year, undrafted rookie free agent can be overrated but ok. If anything Jameel is an over acheiver so far in his career. He's honestly had more of an impact then a guy we drafted in the 4th round, Barnes.

I like McClain though.

I like him. Showed great awareness multiple times, everybody gets beat though so you cant doubt him after the TD, just be glad it was preseason, hes got a lot of work to do, dont see him being a starter this year, excellent sub though

I wouldn't mind him potentially replacing JJ this year at OLB. JJ is good and all, but his skills aren't as good outside of pass-rushing. McClain is a more complete linebacker who would be a better fit in a corps with TGood and Ray, and Sizzle in the 3-4.

I like JJ a lot. He's sometime over looked when thinking about our defensive. He's good at everything, like a hybrid, and is alright in coverage. I won't completely replace him, but am alright with Jameel subing in for him.

At first glance McClain played well. I didn't get a chance to break the game down yet, but he played well.

Harbs made the comment early in the week about the biggest improvement in the preseason happening from week 1 to week 2. Well nobody proved that more then McClain.

He looked much more comfortable this week. Last week he looked like he was thinking more then reacting.

He attacked the line of scrimmage much better then this game. His tackling and paitents was much better.

McClain was also good on special teams. I think he showed that no matter his position is, he will have an impact on this defense.

I'd also like to give props to Prescott Bugress. He played a hellva game. Everyone is giving Webb credit for saving the game but it was Bugress that provide the pressure to force the early throw. He'll make it hard for the coaches to cut him. I don't want to take away from the McClains thread, just wanted to give Prescott props.

Yea Prescott has made a statement to make this team. These are some highly anticipated cuts coming and I'm sure we aren't going to agree with a decision about to be made.

I don't see any reason why he can't be a starter. As for that supposed error or whatever you wanna call it on the Washington coverage, wasn't that more Ayanbajedo's fault?

Don't know if it has been said but when Leon scored I really think on that play the coaches should have taken the initiative to see they were in distress and confused to call a time out. I'd blame McClain but one he isn't as fast as Leon so it is a huge mismatch and two even if he could of kept up the confusion left him in a bad spot to cover Leon.

I actually think McClain is winning the competition to replace Scott right now. He just seems to be making the big plays for us. Tavares has been solid but hasn't stood out to me. Meanwhile McClains getting turnovers, QB pressures and sacks, and racking up the tackles. I also like how McClain is big. Gooden I think is even smaller than Ray. Obviously that hasn't hurt Ray but Scott's job was to take up blocks and I think the bigger McClain fits that bill better than Gooden.

I am quickly becoming a huge fan of J.McClain and Gooden. Although it terrifies me to think of Ray Lewis retiring, knowing that we have a capable stable of young LB is definitely comforting

Yup, I browse one of their message boards and they are the most reasonable fan base I have come across.
