Most Impressive Players: Ravens Vs Jets

36 posts in this topic

Justin Harper - If I remember correctly, he went 2 for 2, with the huge 43 yard reception. Eliminating the drops entirely, or almost entirely if I was mistaken, showed tremendous improvement from the somewhat shaky first Preseason contest.

Jameel McClain & Paul Kruger - In my opinion, Jameel definitely made his case for being Bart Scott's replacement. Except for the allowing the TD, he was involved in nearly every positive play whenever he touched the field. And to be fair, a LB covering Leon Washington is a bit of a disadvantage. Paul was very impressive in coverage, especially during both of his deflections near the goal line.

Who impressed you the most?

Offensive - Ray Rice, while it may not be a fair assessment since McGahee had such poor run blocking. Ray Rice was one of the few players that was able to show success against Rex Ryan and his defense.

Defensive - No one stood out for me. Ed Reed was one of the few consistent in the game tackling and positioning. I'm not sure if that was a surprise though.

Offense- Cam Cameron. He told his QBs to throw the ball and it gave me a hope for the season. Both Flacco and Smith looked great. Also glad Beck didnt go in. His offense was the thing that impressed me the most.

Defense-No surprise here, Haloti Ngata. Getting at the QB, plugging running lanes, oh and getting a pick 6 in the first 50 seconds. Runner up for me would be Martin. A guy who can play cornerback and safety pretty damn good.

That is very interesting statement. Each had a nice pass this game otherwise they didn't have much of the chance with the pocket break down.

It was nice to see Derrick back and playing well - not that it wasn't expected.

Justin Harper made some nice catches, and I like what I saw from Ray Rice too.

I was saying the fact that they were going for the big gain and actually looking like QBs. Cam Cameron put out a statement saying stop the run we will throw on you and if you shut that down then prepare to go to war with our RBs.

Was i the only not impressed with Haloti Ngata tonight??

yes he was fantastic on his pic six play and the hit that forced the other INT but he over pursued the screen play just to hit the jets guy and also got pancaked which never happens lol, he was good in stages but he just didnt seem himself tonight. Maybe im just lloking into him to much but he just didnt seem able to hold up blocks tonight. I was dissapointed with him although even a Ngata perfoemance of 2night is better than 95% of the DT's in the league

Offense - Joe Flacco, where the stats great, hell no, but man did he play well, threw some amazing deep balls and showed great touch on most of his throws, he overthrew Ray Rice twice for what would of been a huge gain but he played amazing. He got hit a lot and just got back up as if nothing had happened and threw another rifle. Was impressed with his pocket poise and accuracy on his throws, he could be special

Defense - Jameel mcClain and Fabs/Foxy
First of i think McClain should start at linebacker this year. I dont care about Tavares being the incumbent and everything, McClain is hands down playing better than Tavares. if the ravens roll with a 3-4 i want Jameel starting, if they run a 4-3 i want jameel on there as much as possible. He was so good tonight, when he got beat by washington it was Ayanbadejo that confused him. McClain had his zone, then ayan changed and mcclain was out of position, it seemed like Ayanbadejo's fault. even though he got beat he threw his arm out in desperation which i loved and his instincts seem truly incredible.

And give major pros to Fabs and Foxy tonight. You could say the ravens defense was great or sanchez was just bad but with the lack of pass rush we showed (besides one or two instances)the corners did a great job. You didnt even hear there names and that means they where locking down there guys. Was very impressed with both

Was also impressed with Barnes again, that guy can rush the passer so well

I really liked what Fabian did, I was watching him more simply because he's probably going to be our number one guy; I thought he played very well in coverage - and had a few nice tackles too.

I agree. I feel our corners did a very good job. But after Fabian and Foxworth our cornerbacks look bad. I was impressed with our offense. We finished a drive. And they finally tried a jump ball with Washington. They should do those more often because it was very close to working. Or they should give it to McClain because the few times he got the ball he hit the defense hard. I feel like McClain would have been a better matchup against the Jets defense.

I was impressed with Mason. He showed why we needed him this game. He is so good. And he is a million years old. He runs like a 20 year old. Unbelievable.

Flacco needs to finish a few throws like the one he overthrew Rice but its just a matter of time before those throws happen.

He overthrows rice often but I mean Flacco is like 6'5 right? Rice is 5'6 5'7?

Defense: Haloti Ngata, Paul Kruger, Jameel McClain
Honorable mention: Ed Reed, Ladarius Webb

Offense: Cam Cameron's playcalling, Ray Rice, Joe Flacco, Justin Harper
Honorable mention: Willis McGahee

For me Offense is a tie between Cam and Rice. Defense for me is Ngata. This guy I think, is the most overall athletic DT in the league.

The young linebackers. Very impressive.

Kruger- 8 tackles, 1 sack, But he had the awareness to know when the pass rush failed and put his hands up in the air and blocked two key passes. I think they both could've been TD passes.
Gooden - 10 tackles, 1 sack
McClain - 16 tackles, 1 INT TD

Ngata is the best DT in the NFL and has been since last year.

Flacco throws arguably the best deep ball in the NFL. Accuracy looks great. I love the tactic of going across the middle on a short slant to Washington and Harper, the 2 big guys. His OL needs to sure up tho because that pocket collapsed a lot.

Harper looks like a very capable 4th receiver but I'd be surprised if both him and Washington don't see a lot of playing time.

Still waiting for D Williams to break a long one he never looks open.

Ray Rice is a beast both in the running game and the passing game. He will be a force to reckon with.

Gooden is just an extremely sound LB. He doesn't over pursue in the way that McClain and Barnes sometimes do and always wraps up. He definitely looks worthy to play along side Ray.

Kruger is the real deal and definitely worth his 2nd round status he is always around the ball, is fast, strong, and blows up tackles.

Lardarius Webb should not return punts or kick offs for awhile, but he looked good in coverage.

Troy Smith looked HORRIBLE last night.

All in all the starters looked great, its a Super Bowl caliber team, but the depth on defense is NOT reflected on offense. We need to work on that.

my standout player on defense last night was paul kruger i feel he has had two good games and his name was linked to what seemed every defensive play in the 2nd half.
on offense joe flacco and ray rice looked good i think rice is going to be great and i'm very high on kelly washington.

Defense- Mr. Mgata..the man is a beast
Offense- Cam Cam...he let it fly from the start. More completions would of helped alot but this is still the preseason.

I agree abou the completions but in a real game Flacco wouldn't really throw the ball that much. But I was impressed how he stepped up and made throws and took a hit. He is making smart decisions. And a little more experience and those decisions will turn into great passes. He is close.

I was really impressed with the first string's pass blocking. Run blocking was a different story. If they wanted and room at all they'd have to break or shake a tackle. The backups on the O-line were pretty terrible in every way. Oher was impressive again I though.

McClain I really like, but he botched a couple of plays. If you look at the touchdown he clearly didn't know his assignment because you can see two other Ravens trying to tell him where to go. It was a bit of a shambles. I also remember a special teams play that he made a bit of a mess of. But in all he played pretty well and obviously capped it with a beautiful pick six. Almost Reed-esque 'Hide and seek' move. Good pressure aswell on that play.

I thought with Ray and Ed on the field we looked a force on defense, which is good, but at the same time the dropoff when they left the field was quite pronounced. They need to stay healthy this year, something which we all sorta knew already.

Flacco, Mason and Rice looked excellent. No one else in offensive skill positions were particularly impressive IMO.

Gano I don't think has much of a chance now. Haushka will have to get injured or really start making a mess of things not to get the job.

Leon Washington looked good against us, but little, shiftier backs always seem to.

I am really surprised to see that everyone is impressed by Ray Rice's performance. He ran with the first string guys and only put up 29 yards on 8 carries. McGahee had 23 yards on 8 carries on the second team with Jason Cook as FB.

I agree with you, I did think Rice looked good, but more as a reciever, But McGahee looked better. Really McGahee will be back to being more of the 1st and 2nd down runner, and Rice will take the back seat as a 3rd down back yet again.

Rice is definitely a Reggis Bush type player. He will be used more as of a recieving back I think.

Jameel Mcclain looked real good.

Run Defense looked pretty bad, Leon Washington really gashed our first string D. Gotta fix that quickly.

Did you watch the game though? The stats weren't great but that's because some of the run blocking was pitiful, and some of the rush defense was very good. Rice was shaking alot of tackles, and if the offensive line can get it together, broken tackles will mean long runs.
As for the McGahee comparison, he got less yards, and he was running against the 2s on the Jets defense, plus 16 of his 23 yards came on one play.
So I'd say Rice looked better than McGahee.

He caught one pass for 3 yards. He could've had another one but Joe overthrew. I think he'll be prominent on 1st and 2nd down, with McGahee moving into more of a 'closer' role, with McClain on short yardage totes and Rice and Peerman sharing 3rd downs.

McGahee could have matched what Rice got possibility if he had some-type of Offensive Line. Minus the 16 yard run he got 1 YPC, that is why McGahee didn't impress most. Him and Troy couldn't get the offense running because the Line and Penalties prevented them from shining. Congrats to Rex he rattled the second O-Line.

Yeah but running with the number 1 team with an amazing OLine and a pro bowl FB, you would think he could put up better numbers. I mean Willis was getting the ball from a handoff and there were already 2 to 3 guys in the backfield already to tackle him. I just hope both these guys can put up solid numbers with the starting line up but like last weeks game I have to give the edge to McGahee. Hopefully Harbs changes it up for the Panthers game and lets Willis and Ray split carries with the starters.
