Where Is Todd Heap?

19 posts in this topic

What are the Ravens' plans for this guy? He's healthy now and could possibly have a break-out or comeback season. We would be devastating to defenses this year if we could get the old Heap back. If he is Healthy, He could give us a huge advantage on offense. What do you guys think? What are their plans for him?

He caught a first down that was a nice catch and then went to the bench.

EDIT: They want him as a receiving target

He will be utilised more in the passing game this year than last. Still reasonably effective as a blocker though.

He does well with blocking. But, i would love to see him catch a lil bit more. Especially in 3rd down & redzone situations

I'd imagine he will be used in these situations, he's reliable and a big target.

I am not worried about Heap yet. I think Flacco is being instructed to use his wideouts more and Cam is calling plays specifically to get the ball to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th wideouts.

How else are we going to evaluate Washington, Williams, Haper, Figurs, and all those other young guys that are basically unknown? I mean, you've got to throw them the ball to see if they catch it. Throwing it to Mason and Heap all the time, isnt going to tell us anything about how well our wideouts behind Mason and Clayton can play wr.

I think thats why Heap isnt getting the ball. We know what he is capable of. Throw the ball to someone we dont know about.

That's a good point actually. I'm not worried either - he's a proven quantity much like the running game.

I understand your point completely! my question is regarding the regular season. Your point is clearly obvious. But, the starters dont play preseason for nothing. We haven't seen Heap in a looooooooooooooooong time! so,fans would love to see him cath a few just as much as seein the prospects. 2 or three passes to him wont hurt. We haven't seen heap no more than these candidates. Mason caught a few and was done for the night. We were satisfied! we would get a thrill outta Todd catchin some. If the starters didnt perform in preseason, fans wouldnt like it too much and less would attend the preseason games.

Well said!!! i have no beef!! but, thats what every Big tight-end faces.Always in the middle, its impossible to avoid. The few times he caught deep passes, hes clearly to slow to create seperation but big enough to catch and hold the ball. The down-side to that is possible injury from being hit too much. i feel you though!

The contributions of Todd Heap should not be under-estimated. He is our Heath Miller. But cooler, coz he's in purple and black B)

He had a nice catch yesterday but I think it depends on how the O-line plays. He's been blocking for Flacco last season because we needed the extra blocking. If they hold up and play well then he might be catching more, plus Flacco needs more weapons and a healthy Todd Heap used to be. Not downfield but in the Red Zone and in 3rd down situations. But if people keep blitzing like Rex did I'm sure we will see more blocking from Heap.

Heap is a offensive lineman, I could care less if he has a TE next to his name. COME ON Cam, Heap is as good as Gates in the passing game, and a better blocker. USE HIM PLEASE.

I thought Flacco was under pressure a lot last night and Heap had to stay in to block.
