I am not worried about ST. They looked worse last offseason.

One thing that did worry me was our run defense, even with Ray and Ed in. The Jets got off some pretty good runs on us, I dont ever like seeing that preseason or not.

I also wasnt at all impressed with either kicker tonight. Haushcha made his field goal but barely. I think its time to call up AutoMATTic.

I agree with you about the run thing. It makes me sick to my stomach when backs get positive yards. Especially 6+ yards and crucial downs. Washington did run well on our Starters. I know that stopping the run is sumthin we take pride in. Plus, if you listened to Rex's post-game interview,he made it pretty clear that Washington got the job done against our 1st & 2nd string D. I didnt feel too pissed about the Jets' first Td cuz Ray and Ed wasnt in the game. But,I hate when dudes run the ball well on us! I know it's preseason, but I still hate that!

Gooden stood out but I think McClain was in on pretty much every play.

I'll comment further tomorrow once I'm in a state to comment (lol), but to make a quick remark about the first point that was brought up, it should be noted that coaches who often specialize in an area often struggle in that area once they become head coaches. Why? Because they can't be as hands-on with that side of the football as they once were as a coordinator. That's just the way it goes. The head coaching position is an administrative position.
But, that Jets defense looked a lot like the Ravens. For example, blitzing 9 players. Rex may not be calling the plays, but he influences the plays. And I didnt think their defense looked bad, they did give up a long touchdown drive, but other then that the pressured Flacco, and stop so runs.

I was screaming so much when they were running on us. This is the Baltimore Ravens I don't care if you are the waterboy, you will tackle his *** to the ground.

He fit smoothly into the system, which was nice to see. Hopefully he brings youthful energy to our defense!

I do have one question about Ed Reed though. Does he not try to tackle anymore because of his neck injury?I mean he used to lay down the big hits but ever since this injury he tries to push people out of bounds.

Well, you have to keep in mind, the Ravens' offense for a couple games back in the day looked like Brian Billick's offense in Minnesota -- but look how quickly that changed. Eventually, we'll see Rex Ryan's Jets defense struggle with consistency.

I don't see why he would lay anyone out in preseason, probably best to ease the neck back into it. I pray that his neck is at 100% *fingers crossed*

There were like 30+ scouts in a box from around the league scouting our backups, so we need to get the cuts right.

McClain and Burgess looked better than Gooden to me.

Tough to compare mcclain to gooden because mcclain comes off the edge mostly while gooden is more of a chase and tackle or shall I say our new Bart Scott.

As dissappointed as I was that Gano missed that field goal, I got a kick out of him tackling Leonhard (that was Leonhard right? trying to remember correctly).

Was dissappointed with Troy Smith tonight...I was pretty impressed with him last week against the Skins but tonight kind of undid that for me. but I guess everyone is entitled to an off night.

How dominate does our starting defense look? I think Im not the only person who yelled welcome to the NFL when Sanchez's first pass of the night was intercepted and ran into the end zone.

Is it September 13th yet?!

Yeah,im waitin for this answer! the only seasons of which our offense were half decent was 2000 & 2006. Last year was the best offensive season we ever had. Billick was a joke! That superbowl the Colts won should'v been ours. He jerked us!!!!!

Gano tackled Washington on the return which is actually pretty sad if you think about it.

Picking up the inside blitz is a problem too.

One of the things, I was looking for this game was how well the OL figured out their blocking assignments. They did pretty well on a couple of plays but overall it wasnt very impressive. I thought Birk coming would be a major upgrade over Brown in that area.

Offense starts with the line, their failure had all players on the Offense looking bad you could almost exclude Ray Rice.

What is with the ravens and picking up coaches who are renowned for one thing Billick : Offense and Harbaugh : Special Teams, and them having no impact in that area. We are going to lose A LOT of games if these teams keep getting the ball within our territory.

Also we might as well also put L.J smith on IR now as he got hurt just running a route. And what the hell is with Oniel Cousins? He is terrible every time our offense is out there and you see a flag it is a holding on him.

I'll give troy the benefit of the doubt as that second team O-Line was absolutely atrocious and did not even benefit McGahee one bit in trying to earn his starting position back.

Other then that Ravens D was pretty good but we are still having trouble taking down backs that go to the flats.

My absolute favorite part though was Joe Flacco in the pass game. He may have been 8/18 but a majority of those passes were consecutive plays where the DB's were backed off to defend it. He is starting to look like a QB who can throw accurately anywhere on the football field.

By the way why is Frank Walker and Evan Oglesby still here? They can't cover anyone.
Agree with you almost 100% but I believe Frank played a pretty damn good game. He is a guy who wont start but you would want on your team come hell or high water. I do agree that the second string Oline played like absolute doo doo. You all may thing I am complaining to make my boy McGahee look like a poster boy but anytime, I don't care who you are, you take a handoff and there are already 3 guys in the backfield; you are going to have a bad time. Troy looked like a good quarterback out there for the most part. When he did turn over the ball, he shook it off. It wasnt an ideal game for him but he can learn from it and that is what is most important to this team.

Special Teams was atrocious. I have though for a while that hiring Jerry Rosberg was a huge mistake and the fact John made him assistant coach makes me sick to my stomach. I was all for cutting Ayanbadejo this season but I change my mind, he is the only hope we have of keeping an average Special teams.

As for LJ, wow, just wow. You can tell he gave up on that route due to injury, atleast I am thinking that, I don't know if he should/will make the team. Davon or Edgar for the number 2?

I will just throw out 2 players who I believe played very well but might have been overlooked; Dawan Landry and Derrick Martin.

Haloti Ngata if you dont go to the probowl this year, I dont want to live anymore because then I know there is no god. You are amazing. You may not get the sacks but your play is undescribable. Let me try to describe it....Untralessence. A word made up of words.

It is tough for McGahee who is actually competing for the number 1 spot unlike Smith. McGahee was the victim to the Offensive Line.

Even with that though, Ray and Willis' rushing stats werent that far off. Willis should get the start saturday if Harbaugh really wants to get the most out of this 2 headed attack.

Carolina next - that is a good chance to get the offensive line going well, along with both RBs; Carolina is missing Kemoeatu and Beason - there 2 primary run stoppers. They struggled to stop Miami and New York running well, let's see how Rice and McGahee go there.

My concern is most definitely the Special Teams. Thats always the deciding factor in whether an opponent kills our momentum, score points or take the lead. When we return punts, we never seem to atleast get pass the 20 yard line. I Hate That!!!!!!!

Disappointing Marcus Smith was lost for the season, he's a good special teams player. Chris Carr should be good for some long returns this season; he had better be - he didn't show much as a corner so far in preseason.

Actually, he did lay down a decent hit after Carr couldnt make the tackle. It wasnt hitstick worthy but it was a good hit!

I sure hope this issue will be resolved. We sure could use some good field position this year. Especially against teams like the Steelers, Patriots and Colts. We need an advantage at some point. Its bad enuff the zebras are our opponents as well. We work for every single yard. We could use a break!!

I will not sit here and beat around the bush; Chris Carr shouldn't make this roster. It is not because I am impressed by Lardarius or Figurs but it is because we took him on as a ST and he cant prove that or as a depth player at defensive back. I really am surprised we didnt try out Jayson Foster tonight. Anyways, cant wait til saturdays game!

I loved Kelly Washingtons enthusiasm! I didnt see any of the harper catches, but i think the stats was like 2 receptions for 62 yds? Not bad for guys that would be backups or they wouldnt see alot of time with 2 receiver sets. I really hope we open up the field and bring these guys in when the regular season comes along

its tough on punt returns which is what he does to gauge in a game where he caught 2 punts and 1 of which I hope in the regular season he fair catches, he will be just as effective if not more so than leonhard returning punts.. as for playing nickel i agree i dont think hes suited to be our nickel...in any case im tired of watching us go to the nickel or dime and teams just throwing to those 2 corners there has to be someone who can step up and negate the slot.
