Peyton's "record"

17 posts in this topic

Does it really count if the previous TD record for the Colts was held by Unitas if Unitas never played for Indianapolis? If I remember correctly, he was very involved with the Ravens...not so much with the Colts. An interesting side note: After Unitas' death, Chris Redman wore black shoes and was fined by the league. A week later, Manning asked for permission to wear black shoes. He was denied permission and did not wear black shoes that week. Unitas still a Colt? I don't think so.

I think that the entire Colts Franchise moved to Indy. The Ravens were the Browns but only weren't allowed to take the name with them. So either way, the B-more Ravens aren't any part of the old Colts. On the otherhand Johnny U has allegiance to the fans of Baltimore not Indy. As he should.

I was being more figurative than literal. I think you did get the jist of what I was trying to say. And if you're looking for a statue of Unitas, you won't find it outside the Colts' stadium.

I think Peyton just wanted to honor him as a Colt the same way Redman did as a Baltimore Player. He deserved both. Johnny U belongs to the fans of Baltimore, there can be no question about it, but the records are Colts records whether they're in B-More, Indy or Osh Kosh (can you imagine?). I didn't know there was a statue of him in Baltimore. That's awesome. Is it at the Stadium?

we werent allowed to take the name because Art Modell is a generous man who knows what it does to the fans when a team is stolen from them. Unfortunately for us Baltimorians, Irsay was a D.

one of the Sun writers had it right, now that Manning holds the record, can't we get ours back? Indy doesn't need a fake hsitory to act all big anymore so why can't we get back what waws stolen from us all those years ago? Those records that are no longer records were made in BALTIMORE. Therefore they BELONG in BALTIMORE!

The Ravens will always have a distant connection to the old Colts in that they play for Baltimore. They share the same hometown and even some of the same fans so how are they not related? There is a legacy here in Maryland that was stolen on those Mayflower trucks and shipped over to indianapolis. well screw that, the legacy of the Baltimore Colts should Remain In Baltimore!

I feel like I am repeating myself, and I probably am. I dont care though, its the principle of it that bothers me.

The Colts Franchise moved to Indy.

The Browns Franchise moved to Baltimore. It's that simple. You cannot give Colts records to the Browns franchise no matter where they moved or what they call themselves.

No one wants the records to be tacked on the the Ravens. What is wanted is the Baltimore Colt history ends in 1984. If you are truly interested Baltimore Colts Heritage . It explains what people want.

This isNOT what we are trying to do:

1. Bring the Colts back to Baltimore

2. Restore the Colts logos and colors

3. Affect Indianapolis' history in any way

4. Direct any lingering frustration towards Colts

I don't think the list is unreasonable.

Thanks for the pics of Johnny U's statue. Very nice.

I would agree that some sort of homage (if developed) belongs in Baltimore. It's touchy though. There's a fine line where you separate Colts history with Baltimore history. I would use the retired/deceased players (as you said) and all things "Fan" as a guide as to what belongs to Baltimore. That's not at all unreasonable.

I actually worked along side my Grandfather a couple summers as a kid for one of his b/u QB's (Gary Quazo - and I may have spelled that wrong). He had a couple of horses and few steer (we took care of them and the grounds). I wish I knew then what I know now. I would have drilled him with questions.

I know I wasn't the only person who was hoping that the Colts wouldn't win a Super Bowl while an Irsay still owned the team.

You were not. At least the Ravens got theirs first. ;)

I decided after that mess last year to try and let it go. I know I was in such a state before the playoff game, a friend or 2 was quite concerned.

I had trouble during the SuperBowl, because my roomate is from Chicago and wasn't very nice when the Ravens lost in the playoffs. So I couldn't really root for either team. I was hoping for some loophole that would make both teams lose.

yea i get what your saying there, thats kinda like your in a situation where its more like a "Lose-Lose" situations. you neither like either team and you absolutely hated to see your team lose in the play offs.

wow...that would be an absolutely bizarre event to ever happen in the Superbowl, the NFL's biggest game of the Year and in a way its like the NFL's "Christmas" lol. i guess i that ever did happen they would have to share the Trophy (1 half of the year, one team would have it, the other half the other team would have it) not to mention they would have to make Double the amount of Superbowl Championship Rings haha ;)
