Jackson Outshines Favre

28 posts in this topic

My question is how long before Favre actually for once in his career gets benched?

Tavaris Jackson was 12/15 202YDS 2TDS
Brett Favre was 1/4 4YDS 0TDS

Jackson has been doing extremely well since the end of last season and it seems like a bad move to bring Favre in when he did extremely bad at the end of last year.

To quote what I said in another thread:

Irony? If Tarvaris Jackson outperforms Brett Favre to where the Vikings can't justify benching him.

i still question whether or not favre is an upgrade over jackson.. its pre-season, and he's only been with the team a few days so you cant expect stellar numbers, but favre might be just about washed up.. i really dont think he was worth the money

Franchise Im not going to look for my post in a previous thread lol. I knew this was a bad move for them. I explained that I thought the Vikes already had a QB and bringing Favre in isnt what was needed for that team. Both Jackson and Rosenfels looked great in this preseason....heck, even John David Booty outshined Brett, and they took his number from him to give to Favre. I think Childress has this sick twisted fantasy that brett Favre is going to come in and save the day when the Vikings didnt really need him. Brett Favres timing was so off, he was throwing bad passes. Percy Harvin had to work extremely hard to haul in Bretts only completion of the game. They just wasted 12 million dollars on a man thats going to ride the pine. Lastly, I hope Childress doesnt get like Brian Billick when he brought in Elvis Grbac. Having a better player on the bench because you pulled the trigger on someone that doesnt really have it anymore. Thats my .02

what i dont understand is what the vikings are thinking. They have the best HB in the league, and the #2 rush defense (last year dont see it falling off too much), so you decide that the only thing holding you back is quality QB play, ok sounds good...so you bring in a guy who even in his prime threw an ****** ton of INTs just doesnt make sense to me. Wouldnt you want a QB who takes care of the ball?

He would have gotten benched in he would have stayed in Green Bay last year, that's probably why he raised such a fuss to get out.

Personally, I hope Tavaris Jackson outperforms Favre in every opportunity he gets. I'm tired of that hillbilly's arrogance and I want to see him implode for the third year straight..

It's not going to happen. Brett Favre has the intangibles that Jackson doesnt. Let's see, he's been through playoffs, to Superbowls, owns every single Passing Record out there, and his name is Brett Favre. I think that just because of that, they wouldnt bench him.

He also TO'd two teams in one season out of selfishness, he's destroyed his legacy in Green Bay and likely won't even be able to retire a Packer.

Imagine if Ray had signed with the Steelers?

Favre said he was nervous...well if you went to TC, you wouldnt be
[/quote]

Yeah, not wanting to goto TC shows that Brett wanted to be lazy there and his performance last night shows that he should have stayed gone. You have 2 other QBs that could outperform him but he will get the starting job. I mean, lets get real, Brett Favre only won A Superbowl in his career about 12 years ago. Minn really effed their situation up.

Holy jumping to conclusions, Batman!

He threw 4 times, and 2 of those times... he was getting hit with pressure right up the middle.

And he's not used to his teammates yet.

Yes, of course if he went to training camp... he would be used to them. But guess what, he didn't go! He joined 2 days ago.

You can't say this was a bad move based on 10:00 minutes of playing time.

And wow, Tavaris Jackson played well in a preseason game! Guess what, Kyle Boller looked pretty sick last night. I don't hear anyone crying that we got rid of him! Let's see if Tavaris can play this good when the games count. And Let's see if Brett gets better with more than 2 days of practice!

Man everbody wants to jump on this.

He just joined the team and had his first four snaps with a new team. And everybody is calling the move a bum. Tavaris has been there for a while and has stunk it up.

Plus we are hypocritical. Smith outperforms Flacco in PS 1. And we all justify it as Smith against 2nd and 3rd stringers, having more playing time, etc. But when Tavaris Jackson does the same thing, its' "Favre's a bum".

Interesting article - "Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress said he's aware of the two reports suggesting some of his players still support Tarvaris Jackson as the starter over Brett Favre." Adam Schefter reported on this during halftime of the Ravens' game.

Locker room revolt, if Jackson does well, and Favre tanks again this week?

I don't know what the big deal is. Tavaris will get another shot next year, after Favre retires.

The same thing happened here last year, sort of. Suggs thought Smith should have been the starter. This eventually created the Suggs package. Could we be seeing a "Williams" package in Minnesota?

I think you're right - if Tavaris behaves himself, accepts the demotion with class and learns by Favre's side... Well, the worst that will happen is that either Favre will fail - not unlikely, given the end of his Jets experience last year - and Tavaris will come in to "save the day"...

...or Tavaris will be the frontrunner next year, and will learn from Favre, gain the team & his teammates' support, and be better in '10. In the mean time, he collects a large check while watching.

And he would be effective, with his mobility and arm, in (yet another) Wildcat Offense, this year as he watches.

Are you serious? Omg.....

3 days of practice he had before that game.

Talk to me after the game against the Texans.

I quite like Jackson and I'm sick of Favre; so would love to see this! He's always been under pressure and hasn't been up to standard, but is always improving... the Vikings could find themselves in quite a predicament if Favre doesn't go well.

He has issues with the Packers GM is why he wants to get back at them. Favre told the GM get Randy Moss but he failed to do so. So now he wants to beat the Packers and then he retires.

I really don't know if there are such motives behind it; irrespective - I think it's been a stupid charade. Favre getting annoyed at people criticising his indecision is rather arrogant - the man is clearly obsessed with attention and the limelight.

As I said on the other page, I hope Jackson takes his job. I don't like how the Vikings have treated Jackson really; Childress hasn't dealt with him well in my opinion.

Childress hasn't done much for that organization anyway.

And now Brett "suspects" he has a cracked rib, to go with his partially torn labrum...

He has one completion in a Vikes uniform,, two injuries and lots of drama.

I heard, he says it hurts to breathe. If it hurts to breathe, that's a good indication to Stay Retired. He is really in for a beating his year, and I wouldnt be surprised if he retire in them middle of the season if the glue that connects is arm to his body wears off.

It won't help, with him suffering from osteoporosis, at his age... If he falls, he could crack a hip.

Why does Favre publicly and chronicle every injury, bump & bruise? He's the antithesis of Bellicheck.
