Is It Just Me That Gets Nervous Before Games?

47 posts in this topic

Haha, yes I do. I'm one of those fans who lives and dies on every play in a big game (in my mind, every game is a big game lol), even if my team is one of the best. Generally the sports team I support have been disappointing over the years, so I tend to get nervous - almost expecting the worst.

But at the same time, I know there isn't really much reason to be nervous. We have a great team! I'll be nervous when we make that Superbowl :P

I'm pretty horrible too. My kids dread a bad season because I am grumpy all week. The lead up to the Superbowl I was downing a half bottle of Maalox a game, and I don't think my mood improved after the Playoff loss to the Colts until Spring. Last season I was a basket case for the Titan game and was OK with the AFCCG, because it was amazing they could dress 53 with all the injuries. The coolest thing last season was going to the Mall after the AFCCG and seeing the place packed even though they lost.

I must say my nerves are relative to my understanding of the game. This will be the 3rd season of NFL I have followed, I only really became a 'passionate' fan early last season - I'm not from the US so I didn't really understand the rules. In essence, the more I came to understand the intricacies and magnitude of the games, especially Playoffs, the greater my nerves generally are.

Still that's understandable I suppose, the closer you get to the prize, the harder it is to lose.

I honestly believe if you don't get nervous, you're not truly in love with this team. This team is part of my daily life and to not worry about whether they are going to win or not equates to not really and truly caring about them.

IMHO, of course.

So you're saying that if someone isn't nervous they aren't a fan of the team? Poor Joe Flacco. He hates himself based on your logic. Being nervous isn't being anxious and being anxious isn't being concerned. Different words have different meanings.

I think he or she means (nervous) with regards to fans, not players gettin nervous! Players share their own level of stress/worry/concern or whatever links to your brain & emotions. But from a fan perspective, a true or dedicated fan would and should get nervous. If there's a fan of any team on this earth who doesnt get nervous,he or she must be an alien! Dont be a nerd bro!! we're talkin sports, not english comprehension!!!!

INHO, yes. That was my disclaimer, grumpy pants. ;)

BTW, Joe Flacco is not human, he was sent here to save us. Dummy.

......And wow, different words have different meanings? You are a flippin genius!!!! No wonder no one has understood me up until now, I just repeated the same words over and over and assumed people got my gist.

Relax.

Your whining is my smile fuel. What's even better than the 'Boo-hoo Choo-choo' that you're driving down the tracks is that you didn't get the nuance in my post.

Thanks for the chuckles.

Every person is wired differently. Let's see, how can I explain to you guys this concept... I've got a good friend that's seen military action, the up-close and personal kind. He doesn't get phased by anything except for cars backfiring. He's so monotone from a personality perspective that you occasionally feel the need to check his pulse.

Now, I'm sure you two only operate under absolutes, thinking that if people don't think and act just like you, they must be 'alien', or 'not a good fan'. I don't know if you have the capacity to expand your thinking beyond the 'if you don't think like me you're wrong' mentality, so I'll just have to wait the 10-20 years it might take you gain the experience and perspective to grasp what's not obvious to you now.

I always have a great sense of anticipation, coupled with giddiness, prior to the start of a game. I believe all fans look forward to games and have an expectation that the Ravens will win. Isn;t that the fun of watching our team play? We know we probably won't win them all, but it is great fun to speculate

Agreed. Being excited and hoping your team wins, that why we're here now and why we know all the players' names and hope for the best for our team.

Interesting coming from the one who condemns those who do not agree with his pre-game feelings as being weak fans. I only suggest, ever so humbly, that you stop assuming all people should react to all situations in a manner similar to your own or be judged as weak for not doing so.

I never did any of the above. Not sure what you're smoking, but its surely working its magic. You just seem to be too good for the rest of the community as you constantly point out things that annoy you about us lowly bottom feeders who don't think on your "level". That book you so cleverly posted for Ravenfanforlyfe, (that was so super sharp and witty btw  ), I think you read it upside down or something bc you really are a tad snooty. Go make yourself a stiff drink and breath deeply.

Now.....where is that "ignore user".....ah....got it.....Toodles, Sunshine. Good riddance. :)

Oh, BTW, I drive a Wahmbulance, I don't ride the Boo-Hoo Choo-Choo. Big difference.
