Is It Just Me That Gets Nervous Before Games?

47 posts in this topic

Does anyone else get nervous as all get out when we get ready to play a game?Even against teams i'm sure we'll beat?I do every single game and that worry doesn't go away until i know for sure we have the game won.
that being said i got a nagging feeling about our first game.I don't know sometimes it may be dumb but i just always extremly nervous.like something will happen and we'll wind up losing to teams we should beat.i never trash talkl about upcoming games because i believe in karma(i thought detroit had stanleycup won and i started bragging then the lost 2 at HOME!)
so i was just wondering am i the only one?

Yeah, definately. Every good play I relax a little and every bad play I get more nervous. I'm too competitive for my own good. And if the game starts going poorly I need to leave the room otherwise I will go crazy. As of now i'm constantly anxious waiting for the season.

Ah! Don't jinx us! j/k

I used to get the Game-time jitters, scary ones.

True story here: Last year, I woke up in a cold sweat the morning of the Colts game... I dreamt that Manning was throwing the ball all over us and I was a helpless Cornerback frozen in terror, couldn't do a thing to stop him! And then game time came... <_< my dream became a reality. (except I wasn't the corner being burn to toast, but my I share the first name of the corner that was. LOL)

But I only get nervous when we play the Colts or Patriots anymore. (And I feel a bloodlust when we play the Steelers.)

Any team can have a bad year for any number of reasons, we've also been up and down in recent years as well so a healthy fear is completely valid.

That said I think I have an anger problem and don't take losses very well :P

It depend. If I think we'll win, I'm comfortable and happy. If I'm not sure, I'm very nervous.

Same here! I'm sure we all get nervous when going up against a top tier team. I don't get nervous about the "lesser teams" unless half time rolls around and they're still within striking distance. I hate to give them a glimmer of hope! :)

I get the pre-game jitters too, once it's clear that we are going to win I will calm down but I think I was at my very worst during the Tennessee playoff game after the game was over I had to have a few beers just to calm down so i could go to bed lol

The bigger the game the more excited, nervous or energetic i get. For teams i think we will beat i usually play ping pong in between plays to help me release some energy. But the close or important games i am always running, jumping and punching stuff. Needless to say i can only watch Raven games with my brothers cause they are used to me doing that stuff.

I used to get the same feeling for Ravens games that i got just before i took the field on game day. Then just like when i played, after the opening kickoff the feeling passes.

I used to only watch the game by myself because i would get so into the game, that friends and family said i acted the same way i did when i was actually playing.

Once i watched every defensive snap while in a Linebacker's stance. I would call out the other teams formations and the play i thought they would run. I would call out things that the offense did to tip their hand to a Run or Pass.

I have since calmed down and really just watch the games without getting to caught up in it. I still predict plays based off of formations, but that's just because i was taught to be a student of the game at a early age.

I don't get nervous about Ravens games, because i know each game presents different challenges. I would say i get more excited then nervous

I get nervous and excited. Butterflies hit me whenever I wake up at 11am or noon every Sunday morning, just before kickoff at 1pm. If it's a late-afternoon game, I'm calm until around 3pm, when I start to get antsy. And if it's a primetime game, my whole day is pretty much building up to kickoff, from getting food and drinks in order to picking out my jersey. My mood is still affected by the outcome of each game, but I've mellowed out a bit now that I've got other things to worry about on top of football. (NFL is still near the top of my priorities in the fall, though!)

I choose to stay so emotionally wrapped-up before each game because the game itself is a great release. It feels nice to be able to react in a huge burst of emotion during a great play. No other day of the week do I get to be spontaneous with my reactions without people looking at me strange.

Since I can't always go to the games, it helps to be on here in the Game Threads, too, because it keeps me grounded in my reaction to a bad play or a loss. It helps me look at things critically and understand why the game may not have gone our way. It certainly makes the rest of the week bearable, knowing that I'm not as pissed off as other people are over a loss and I can keep my emotions in check.

I get nervous before and during every game. I usually start jumping around the bed a few hours before game time, and squeeze the life out of the couch pillow during the plays. Not the most gracious watcher.

I'm normally more nervous for away games. I don't know why, I guess because we typically play well at home, but the road games can be a bit of a crapshoot sometimes. I also don't take losing well lol. Mondays after a loss aren't always fun for my coworkers.

I'll admit, the away games are my favorite to get hyped for because the sound of boos always gives me butterflies and goosebumps. I never fail to crack a huge smile when I see the Ravens getting booed on the road and Ray Lewis talks trash right back.

I admittedly get nervous too especially against the elite teams we play. But I sometimes get pretty nervous against garbage teams too like the Chiefs who we're gonna play Week 1. Its just this gut feeling because I feel like the Ravens have a tendency to disappoint. I mean, look at the Dolphins game two years ago....1-15 :( But that was under a completely different system, one that wasn't nearly as strict or focused as the Harbaugh Regime. I just cant wait for the season

I think this is just a severe case of purple Bleeding! I am the exact same way.Sometimes,I walk away from the Tv on crucial 3rd down situations. Then I will return to the Tv hoping they got a 1st down. If they didnt,i get super nervous. It feels as if you own the team or you're part of it. Thats what i call ***bleeding purple*** I'm with you on this one!!!!

I think if you consider yourself a fan you should get nervous. If you don't get at least a little nervous you are ignorant. The NFL is the most competitive league and any team can lose on any given...Sunday, Monday, or Thursday.

I'm nervous all the time when it comes to the season.I want the Ravens to win.Last season the week leading up to and especially the Saturday of the Dallas game all i heard was "we going to kill you all".It's our last game in that stadium we can't lose.
I got so sick to my stomach and watched what i could thru nfl.com because my cable provider doesn't carry nfl network(they are inveiling a new lineup tuesday hope it's added)
but nfl network showed most of game online minus like 4-6 drives.the next day i was off but i went to my work proudly displaying my ray lewis jersey(i wear them proudly when they lose as well but this was fun)
I always want this team to excell because i hate hearing about the patriots, redskins, and cowboys.I'm tired of us not getting the regonition, and that's why i want us to dominate.so that's why i'm always nervous.
side note anyone know how much our starters will play monday?nevermind wnst just twitted that starters will play into second quarter

I honestly believe if you don't get nervous, you're not truly in love with this team. This team is part of my daily life and to not worry about whether they are going to win or not equates to not really and truly caring about them.

IMHO, of course.

Nervous is an understatement, I am in such a state of high anticipation I will frequently become sic to my stomach. I m complete sll out to the Ravens, for years my wife ad to lave the house due to the fact that she was home during a loss in 1998, and was therefore BAD LUCK, she as since been reinsated as appropriate for Ravens TV watchng.

I have to sit on my special couch in my man cave with Chili, a Pina Colada, and some peperoni and cheese slices, if everythig is not right, thee is hell to pay.

Nervouse HA, I am excreting purple from my pores.

Go Ravens.
