Busts/sleeper Discussions

21 posts in this topic

I was trying to compile a list of busts and sleepers for individual positions on my blog and I was interested in hearing everyone else's views. I am doing a position at a time and so far I have done some quarterbacks.

Sleepers:
Matt Schaub HOU
Carson Palmer CIN
Trent Edwards BUF

Busts:
Tony Romo DAL
Matt Cassell KC
Jay Cutler CHI
Kyle Orton DEN

Agree? Disagree? Have your own? Feel free to discuss these picks and picks for other positions here.

I agree with you on Palmer. If he can recover from this ankle thing in time, he could return to his ProBowl form. Chad Johnson (he's never going to be Ochocinco to me) put in work this offseason and Laveranues Coles is no slouch, either.

I got Anthony Gonzales and I got Hakeem Nicks on my bench. I think Nicks will surprise a lot of people this year.

I'd take Romo over Palmer in a heartbeat..

I like McFadden as a sleeper
Since when is Romo a bad fantasy QB?

thats my point.. people were saying he was overrated from a fantasy standpoint and to stay away.. i think otherwisehe still has solid weapons

Schaub really isn't a sleeper anymore. He's actually a fantasy stud with room for improvement. Kyle Orton def not going anywhere. But Cutler, Cassell and Romo should produce decent Fantasy numbers. Trent Edwards is for sure. I hear he's been completing bombs to Lee Evans every day.

I dig these sleepers. Hakeem Nicks is Plaxico 2. Gonzales should benefit from Reggie Wayne.

Sleeper wise I like

Mario Manningham
Josh Morgan
Kenny Britt
Cedric Benson
Cedric Benson will be a steal this year. They have an improved offensive line in Cinnci plus Palmer's back. He put up decent stats last year lacking these two things.

I had McFadden high on my list when I heard the Raiders signed Lorenzo Neal. But now that they cut Neal, McFadden has dropped. The Raiders are actually stupid. Is it because Neal doesn't have SPEED?!

Sleepers:
Trent Edwards
Beanie Wells
Nicks
Cedric Benson

Busts:
Micheal Turner (still decent numbers but not elite) faces tough rush defenses this year.

Sleepers:

Kenny Britt, Titans - big deep threat for Kerry Collins
LeSean McCoy, Eagles (on the premise I think Westbrook will get injured)
Ladell Betts, Redskins (on the premise I think Portis will get injured)
Mike Goodson, Panthers - pass-catching option and talented runner. Jonathan Stewart appears injury-prone too.
Ray Rice, Ravens - should have a big season in our run-heavy offense.
Felix Jones, Cowboys - again, explosive and well-rounded. I envisage him catching a lot of screen passes that could go for big gains, burning speed for home-run plays as well.

Busts:

Steven Jackson, Rams - has been injury-prone and the Rams inability to 'keep up' with teams means they will have to desert the run.
Clinton Portis, Redskins - tough division and heavy career workload should catch up with Portis.
Willie Parker, Steelers - I don't know how many people here would draft a Steelers player anyway lol, but I don't rate Parker in this division. His game is based too heavily on finesse; his body doesn't hold up and he doesn't produce nearly enough TDs for a starting RB. I know he isn't considered a stud, just stating my thoughts.
Drew Brees (to an extent), Saints - the NFC South has a much harder schedule this season, I don't see Brees getting close to his numbers from last season to be honest.

Could list more but meh... lol

Sleepers:
Josh Morgan
Patrick Cobb
Jerome Harrison
Flacco ( I think he counts to everyone except Ravens' fans)

Busts:
MJD. I just don't know how a guy at 5'7" is going to deal with probably around 400 carries (Running team, no quality backups)
Cassel: Looked good in what was essentially the most prolific offense ever. That's not a good thing. 100% Product of the System.
Eddie Royal: I don't see him putting in a repeat performance with Kyle Orton at the helm. Especially if Marshall stays to hog catches.
Tomlinson: Not sure if he counts, seems like most people think he's going to hit the wall this year, but I still see him getting drafted in the first round in alot of drafts, and I don't think he's going to fit that bill.

Since T.O. left for Buffalo. With that being said I would definitely big up J Wit Dogg who will get a lot of targets from Romo.

Yeah, Witten went up in value. Roy Williams hasn't looked too shabby in preseason, either. I think Romo can still hold his stuff together... until December, that is.

Cassel could be a bust. But Because of Cassell, Bowe's stock should increase. His Fantasy numbers have been very consistent over the past two years. Ofcourse the loss of Gonzales will hurt Bowe a bit. But with an improved QB they should be able to run the ball better and the passing game will have some ease.

So I'm looking for Bowe to increase his stats on a productive year. He should be a steal, considering he flies under most peoples' radars.

Sleepers-
Ray Rice - Most likely the starter this year for us and is poised for a big year.
Kyle Orton - He is has more targets than he ever had in Chicago (that is if Marshall mans up)
Josh Morgan - #1 WR in San Fran. This guy is gonna have a good year.

Bust-
Carson Palmer - Injury prone QB and terrible O line don't work out well.
Steven Jackson - Don't get me wrong he is a solid RB when healthy. But that is the downfall to him, don't remember the last time he lasted a full season. Its a damn shame too, this guy would be one of the top backs in the NFL if he could.
