This is all great stuff, way over my head, although probally right. But i'll say one thing, no Superbowl would mean the extinction of mankind. Bank on that!!

The obama part was a joke. But a lot of companies and jobs would be lost because of a lock out.

sometimes it is difficult to tell sarcasm on the internet, but yeah I see what your saying about the jobs, but the owners should bail themselves out... I mean hell they have like 1 billion a piece, Only way I would want my money going to the NFL is if I'm choosing to spend it lol

I want a lockout!!! Why?? Because the leagues salary cap is stupid!! I want the players to stand up like MLB players did. Theres no salary cap in Baseball and it hurts the Orioles than helping them to win. The NFL Salary cap only helps certain teams like the Colts and the Steelers. Steve Biscotti is the George Steinbrenner in the NFL. So i favor a strike or a lockout. And the Ravens would become the NY Yankees of the NFL!
[/quote]

I'm sorry, but I cannot agree with you at all in that post, the salary cap helps keep things competitive, it would be no fun with teams like washington and dallas, who would go out and buy every player that is considered elite

Even Biscotti loads up the team with WRs and a big huge offensive line?

I was suggesting that if there was a lockout and a return to action(like the MLB), I would boycott the NFL upon its return.

And you don't have to be an economist to understand collective bargaining agreements. Was Jimmy Hoffa(famous union organizer) an economist? How about Gene Upshaw(player turned head of NFLPA)? It is simple business and if no fans were interested in the nfl there would be nothing to collectively bargain over because the owners are wise businessmen who would find profitability outside of football.

Does the professional lacrosse league have a players union? (probably should, i heard they dance for nickels in the offseason)

Gene Upshaw and Jimmy Hoffa weren't writing the legal documents, their lawyers/economists were. Do you also think Obama meticulously writes each line of legislature he wishes to pass? It's not "simple business", it's one of the largest businesses in the world, generating billions of dollars in revenue internationally.

I'm not an expert on this stuff, but i do know that the NFL receives so much money that if they lockdown for a year, that's millions and millions of dollars gone.

Oh yea and since the world is supposed to end in 2012, 2010 could be the last Superbowl ever.

From what I've read, the two sides aren't even remotely close to an agreement. A lockout is definitely a possibility.

This cannot happen. I couldn't imagine a scenario where a lockout would be the result. Millions and millions of marketing and advertising dollars would be lost. Not to mention the hearts of millions of fans would be crushed. I do have one question though, does the economy have anything to do with this? This seems like a repercussion of the recession.

We'd like to think that the NFL has learned a thing or two about what lockouts did to baseball and hockey, but we'll have to wait and see. It's hard to believe they'd shoot the goose that lays the golden egg, but it's been done before.

Okay please refer to my earlier posts where I stated/compared the annual revenues of the the NFL in 2007 versus Lehman Brothers in 2007, that should clear up your statement about the NFL being one of the largest businesses in the world and its economic impact upon ceasation(is that a word?) of operations.

I'm a little confused about how Obama fits into your argument. I have a degree in political science and carry no illusions of how policy is written, ratified, and implemented.

Also, lawyers push paper and do what their client wants done, they don't create a client's motives or direction. And I believe you are confusing the job of an economist with that of a financial/investment analyst or someone specializing in financial modeling (which wouldn't be an economist).

It will never, ever, ever happen. There is too much to lose economically by not having football. Obama will bail them out. Think of all the sponsers, who television sales, bars, restraunts, sport stores. It would affect so much.

OBAMA OBAMA OOOO OBAMA!yeah jk

yeah it shouldn't happen!
