Round One, Picks 6-12

10 posts in this topic

Ok let's work on the premise that Adrian Peterson, Matt Forte, Michael Turner, Maurice Jones-Drew and DeAngelo Williams are locks within the top 6 picks. It is likely a QB (Brady, P. Manning or Brees) will be drafted in one of these picks too.

Knowing this, who do you guys have in the bottom half of the first round? Names I will throw in (including the other two 'surplus' QBs not picked) include Steven Jackson, Marion Barber, Frank Gore, Chris Johnson, LaDainian Tomlinson, and then we see a lot of questionable guys like Ronnie Brown, Clinton Portis, Thomas Jones etc. I'm kinda thinking out loud here so forgive any discrepancies - but I was wondering what fellow Ravens fans have as their draft orders between picks 6 and 12 of Round One?

Could we even see Larry Fitzgerald or Randy Moss sneak in in the last few picks?

You are totally sleeping on Steve Slayton.

I actually have Slayton as #4 on my boards above Turner. Turner has a really difficult schedule this year, especially against run stopping teams.

Slayton didn't even get the full nod to go until a couple games in last year, and he was still the #6 rusher overall. Plus he catches balls out of the backfield. His attempts per carry got up to 20+ games at the end of the season, and that's when the team started to win more games.

Look for this second year player to go off. Especially since the running job is practically his. He should get 20+ carries per game, plus 2+ receptions.

QB's in most 10-12 league teams shouldn't really go until the second round. There will be some reaches for WR this year during the later parts of round 1. Fitzgerald, Johnson, Moss could all crack the first round. Once one of these guys go, they all will.

You can always find a QB in the season that will score points. Cassell, Shaun Hill, Kyle Orton, Thigpen, even Warner weren't drafted last year but were very effective. It's harder to find quality RBs and WRs because teams are spreading the ball around more.

Lock up these guys first. Focus on getting one of those top 3 receivers especially.

D. Williams fell to the 16th pick in my draft, Steve Slaton, Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Brees, and Brady all went before him

I'm not sold on D. Williams. Unless he falls to the 3rd round, I can't really see me picking him. He needs to be consistent from year to year. He went from 700 yds & 4 tds in 2007 to 1500 yds & 18 tds in 2008. I won't pick him up in the 1st and I would like to get a WR in the 2nd.

Can he put up the same numbers? If you ask the pundits, they say yes, because its all about what have you done for me lately. But he will be splitting carries again with Jonathan Stewart, who's also suppose to put up big numbers. I feel the risk is higher than what people make out.

The one thing I am impressed by is his YPC. He has always been consistent here. Which makes me always drift back to analyzing D Wills.

I completely agree. First round I typically take a good running back. 2nd and 3rd I try and grab one of the elite WRs and then just take the best WR/RB available. I also wait until late rounds to take a QB. I've been getting McNabb or Matt Ryan around the 7th and 8th rounds

He was behind DeShaun Foster when he posted those lesser numbers, I knew he would explode once he got out of Foster's shadow. He won't replicate those numbers, Carolina has Stewart who is very good as well as a very promising looking runner in Mike Goodson.

I'm not sold on Slaton, especially after I saw Kubiak getting all high on Chris Brown. Slaton doesn't have the element of surprise anymore either. In saying that, the threats of Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels will mean he won't see too many eight man fronts.

Williams was given the opportunity to become the star in 2007, but he disappointed everbody. Hence the reason why Foster was being used.

Chris Brown is a bum. I like Slayton because this is his only competition. Ofcourse Kubiak is going to be hopefully about Brown, because he spent the entire year on IR last year. But he'll end up on IR again, or just flat out under perform.

Irrespective, Williams has become a star, he's one of the top running backs in the league. If you actually look at his YPC averages and so forth, he would have been the league leading rusher last season. He's arguably the 2nd best runner in the league behind Peterson.

Bum or not, he'll take touchdowns away from Slaton in all likelihood.

Who else did you get? I hope Steven Jackson plays well for your sake, the unreliable Rams may once again negate his fantasy value by falling behind and having to to sacrifice rushing the ball to catch up. Great receivers though! How was Megatron still available in the 3rd round? Did lots of QBs go in the 2nd round?
