Round 1 - Rb Or Qb

12 posts in this topic

QB or RB in first round?

I always go with an RB in the first round, QB in the second round and depending on the quality of the RBs left, I either take another RB in round 3 or a WR.

What do you guys do?

1-RB
2-RB or WR
3-QB

Same, you only need 1 starting QB as opposed to multiple WRs and RBs! You can always pick up a decent QB in the 3rd.

Usually I will pick up a RB in the 1st Round.

Well it also depends on the way your league scores. If you get a point per reception. Then you go with a RB in first round. A lot of people will be reaching for WR at the late of Round 1. And it really isn't a bad thing to do.

Andre Johnson, Randy Moss and Fitzgerald are the only guys that you should take in round 1 or 2. Depends on how big your league is.

A QB you can wait until the sixth round. There are plenty of starting QBs that can help your team. I ended last year kicking ****** with Shaun Hill, Shaun Hill!

My strategy this year. 1 - RB , 2 - WR , 3 - RB

I personally think it would be unwise to do anything other than draft a running back first round. It's not that these players always score the most points, it's the fact that you get consistent production and these players are far less regularly-occuring than decent QBs.

I play a league with 2 RBs, 3 WRs, QB, TE, K DST. So I am likely to go RB - WR - RB - WR - QB - WR. Thats just my style though.

My friend has had success with a QB - WR - TE - RB - RB approach. He however has been very lucky in back to back seasons, fluking the likes of DeAngelo Williams in later rounds.

So I would advise my strategy :P

I've been on a few other boards and seems like everyone recommends RB first no matter what. It's 50/50 between RB and QB for the second round. Third is split between WR and QB.

Which RBs are you all looking at?

I'm thinking Maurice Jones Drew for first pick, this is probably the first season were LT is not going to be #1 everywhere!

Peterson #1 overall. He is their gameplan. Run, Run, Run, screen pass to Peterson. Plus he has a great run blocking OL. He will dominate this year.

I like Jones Drew as #2 then, Forte #3, Slayton #4 and Turner at #5.

Such as strange things because the stud running backs from the last three years aren't even up there. But do not sleep on these guys. They can be bargains. I'm talking about vPortis, Westbrook, LT, Frank Gore, Jackson, Johnson & Barber.

First round I'm only taking a RB with the exception of maybe taking Fitzgerald if I have a late first round pick. I've been having success (4th overall pick 10 man league) taking a RB in the first 2 rounds then a WR. I got forte, Gore, then Reggie Wayne last mock draft. I typically wait until later and pick up Matt Ryan or McNabb and focus on filling up on RBs and WR's.

if you dont have a top 5 pick, go with a WR.. there are tons of RBs like Pierre Thomas, Ryan Grant, etc etc that fall to like the 5th round, but the elite WRs go quickly.. try and snag larry fitzgerald, andre johnson, or randy moss in the first two rounds.. i really like calvin johnson and greg jennings, too.

my draft went like this:

1. WR
2. WR
3. RB
4. WR
5. RB
6. RB
7. QB
8. RB
9. TE
10. WR
11. RB
12. RB
13. RB
14. DEF
15. K

my philosophy was to have 3 solid starters at WR that would play basically every week, and load up on RBs and pick and choose who to start each week

If I get a top 5 pick, I go RB. Any later, I take the best WR on the board.
Then round 2, I'll take the best player available.
Same in round 3.
Then after that I start worrying about balancing the best players w/ filling out a legal lineup.

The top scoring fantasy teams when averaged out draft like this:

1) WR
2) WR
3) QB

Thats the best way to do a 1-2-3. With more and more RB by committee they are becoming harder and harder to gauge so after the first few fly off the board the RB's are pretty much all the same, more or less. But by snapping up top WR early it creates a shortage and you can almost always count on big points from receivers when most teams will be in a crap shoot. You could also wait til the 5th round to pick up a McNabb, Palmer, or Eli Manning, etc. at QB and stock up on RB in the 3rd and 4th rounds.
