Ravens 09 > Ravens 08

44 posts in this topic

After watching the game against the skins I noticed something completely out of place and that these guys running around the field couldn't possibly be ravens. But nevertheless it seem that the team finally has depth and not just in one area but in every position. Its really nice to know that this year if a starter goes down there a suitable backups ready to take charge. Anyone else feel this way?

We can't have everything, at some point its just good to be happy with what we have, and very few (and I mean VERY few) teams could say that the majority of their second string is capable of starting for another team.... we'll be fine without the WR, plenty of teams do fine w/o an elite one, plus the reason everyone is hating on them now is because in 08 we didn't use our TE's so it was 2 WRs vs 4 DBs (2 CB's 2 Safeties)

and as far as the Ravens of this year being better then last year, we really can't judge right now, 1) it was our 2nd/3rd string playing opponents 2nd/3rd string, not starters playing starters (i.e. regular season) ... remember Detroit won all 4 of their preseason games in 2008.... I'm sure we all remember how their reg season turned out
2) Ravens of 08 made it to the AFC CG, to be better, we'd have to make it to the Superbowl... and hopefully win it (which I would not be complaining about)

Keep in mind it's only the first preseason game, so don't look into it too much. There's still three more exhibition games to be played and then the games start to actually count. It's a great beginning, no doubt, but keep a level head and an open mind.

We are definetley a better team than last year. Our young guys are a little bit older. We have more depth, expecially at CB and WR.

The only difference I see, which in my mind will probably set us back a notch, is the loss of Lorenzo Neal. Nobody truly understands the impact he has on a running game. If you don't believe me, wait to watch Darren McFadden have an incredible season.

With Rice,Heap, and LJ Smith making catches out of te back field it will open more coverage holes for the WR. I have faith Cam will find a way to get things going. Back to the original topic, yes we seem to have great depth this year. Llets just hope we can get everyone into the regular season healthy.

Last year, Harbaugh was in the process of making this team "his" team. This year it IS his team now and it is showing. I'm just glad we picked Harbs up and Jason Garrett chose to bail on us.

Players saw how close we came to going to the Super Bowl, and they are working at it again. There is no way Troy is happy as a backup, yet he is doing it without complaining, because he wants to see this team go up to the top. Same goes to other players as well, they are doing everything to help the team at the position they are in right now. It's a beautiful thing to see.

GLAD TO SEE SMITH DO A GOOD JOB--TONSILITIS COST HIM HIS CHANCE LAST YEAR OF ALL THINGS. HE IS A GREAT BACK-UP TO FLAACO AND IN THE NFL YOU DO NEED 2 QUARTERBACKS TO MAKE IT THROUGH, HARBAUGH USED HIS PLAYERS LAST YEAR AND GOT EVERYONE IN THE GAME. THIS HAS GOT TO BE GREAT FOR TEAM CHEMISTRY. I SENSE THERE ARE SURPRISES FOR THIS YEAR ESPECIALLY IN THE RED ZONE. BEST OF LUCK TO KYLE BOLLARE I THNK HE NEEDED A FREASH START.

WE DON'T NEED T.O. OR ANY OTHER PRIMA-DONNA RECEIVER. NOW THE PAXICO HAD HAS HIS WINGS CLIPPED FOR ADVANCED STUPIDITY HE MIGHT BE OKAY WHEN AND IF HE'S ALLOWED TO PLAY. OUR RECEIVERS HAVE A GREAT ROLE MODEL IN MASON WHO LETS FACE IT NEEDS A BREAK.
HAYNES DID GOOD THURSDAY NIGHT BUT MASON HAS GOT TO GET HIM TO GO AFTER THE BALL 100%. I WAS AFFAIRD HE WOULD HAVE SORE HANDS FRIDAY FROM ALL THOSE PASSES HITTING HIM THERE.
ALL AND ALL HARBAUGH IS DOING A GREAT JOB MAKING THE TEAM COMPETITIVE AND FUN, THE ROAD TO THE SUPER BOWL GOES THROUGH PITTSBURGH THAT'S THE NUMBER 1 PROBLEM FOR NOW.

HOPE THERE IS A DEFENSIVE LINEMAN IN FOOTBALL WHO LOVES DOGS AND PLANS A SPECIAL GREETING FOR MR. VICK. PHILIDELPHIA NEVER DID HAVE MUCH CLASS. JUST LIKE WHEN THEY SAT MCNABB DOWN WHEN PLAYING THE RAVENS AND THEN PUT HIM BACK IN WITHOUT EXPLAINATION. I DON'T LIKE MCNABB BUT HE HAS GIVEN HIS SOUL TO THAT TEAM AND TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT IN FRONT OF RAVENS FANS!! AND THEN THIS YEAR THEY HAVE TO GET A FELON TO PLAY QUARTERBACK--NO NO NO --NO CLASS---NO INTEGRETY--NOTHING

Very few teams win the Super Bowl and the teams that do usually have good talent at all positions and multiple layers of it. I just can't be satisfied with the idea that 'most' of our positions are good. All of them need to be.

We dont need any WRs. Clayton gets the yardage we need and Mason gets the yardage we need. We have a pro bowl TE, a pro bowl Full back and a Pro Bowl Half Back. Oh and we have the best damn defense in the league. Seriously, Stop with the Wide Out crap. We arent the colts or the Pats, We are the Ravens. We play smashmouth football.

I know you guys are new fans, you have to be. Cuz you would know we didnt have any Wide Recievers in 2000 when we won the Superbowl. But we did have a Probowl TE and a rookie RB who ran for 1300 yards. So enough of the WR talk, its really starting to annoy the crap out of me.

You can't have both a great passing game and a great running game and a great defense. 2 out of 3 is good enough for me.

A-greed! Our passing attack should be more than serviceable for what we need to get done this year. I think we all can agree, though, this is a hell of a lot better than last offseason.

And all of our positions are filled with good players, our O-Line is going to be beastly for a long time, our RB's are going to be used... abunch, we have a probowl TE and a 2nd string who WAS a starter for one of the dominant teams in the NFC, our QB... every1 knows his story, our WR's are underestimated/undervalued, the only reason people claim that they are bad, is that just about every other position we have is filled with just about an Elite player, not to mention that they were DOUBLE COVERED just about every play.... and they still made plays. Believe me, teams out there would kill for players we have on our depth chart.... I'd rather have our roster as is now, than have to give up some people for some premadonna cry baby WR.

Damn I swear some people who want WR on this forum, make it sound like our WR's are no counts... just because they aren't a Larry Fitzgerald, or a Chad Johnson

Not only that, if we get our young receivers, who are inconsistent but still make plays, to convert the big plays and can make plays happen from time to time; then our offense will be drastically better. I forget who said it, maybe it was Ogden, but they said if we can take our offense from a 24 point per game offense to a 28 point per game offense then we are a deadly team

I have high hopes this year, but all I can hope is that we get to the playoffs. I feel we are playoff capable. If we beat the Steelers (especially twice), that'll really give us an advantage.

If we beat the Steelers twice this year we will be SuperBowl champs.

And I agree with most. Like how spoiled can you get? We have one of the most sound and deepest teams in the league - this much was apparent in the first pre-season game. As some may have noticed, we had 500 yards of total offense, 399 of which came through the air - thats more yards through the air than any other team so far this pre-season. Now if that doesn't shut up the people who are crying for a WR I don't know what will.

I do.. But the question is,,,,Is it enough to handle the Steelers? Only time will tell.

Exactly.
Folks... this is a team who walked up to a bully (us), punched us in the face, and went home with our girl. Let's not fall into this false bravado trap again... and give them their due.

Sounds like something druken Big Ben would do. Unfortunately that girl was forcefully taken. And we will be bringing back the glory soon enough.

Anyways you have three posts, all praising the Steelers. I think you are on the wrong boards.

Exactly. Take Harper for example. So far in practice and in the first preseason game he's proven he can beat coverage. Thats the hard part. All we have to do now is teach him to catch. And he won't be any higher than 4th on the depth chart. We're fine at WR.

Especially when you factor in our TE position. Can you imagine an offense with Heap, Smith, Mason, Clayton/Williams, and Rice all on the field together? Trust me...we'll be fine people.
