Beck Has Broken Collarbone--Or Not

24 posts in this topic

PFT is reporting that Beck has a broken collarbone, and is done for the season. Of course, considering it's PFT... we may have to wait for confirmation.

is that just from throwing footballs or was he hit? that's too bad, marcus and now beck. Not that big of a loss but still. Who will be our #3 now, any speculations?

Cameron needs to stop bringing in these failed QBs he had in Miami. Are we gonna sign Ricky Williams next week? C'mon Cam!

Willey for sure. He may be unproven in the pro's, but Lemon's proven to be a failure in the pro's.

Meh they are camp fodder to get beat around in pre-season games  Its easier to bring in someone that knows Cam's system then someone learning it cold turkey.

They know his system and they are still young, so you can't call them "failed". And Lemon actually faired pretty well in his games with the Dolphins, considering they were a 1-15 team. You shouldn't be upset at the prospect of him as a #3.

Lemon is not a kid, he's 29 years old. He started 7 games for the 'Fins in '07, completed 56% of his passes, 6 TDs, 6 INTs. He's a backup:

http://www.nfl.com/players/cleolemon/profile?id=LEM582770

Willey was projected by Kiper as a 5th-7th round pick - he is a kid, but not a strong arm - 6'3"

http://blogs.buffalobills.com/tag/drew-willy/

I'd say, take a chance with Willey - another backup isn't needed for a 3rd QB, if Flacco gets hurt, Troy Smith is more than capable. A 3rd QB should be a developmental player, not a 29 year old...

He's turning 30 tomorrow, so, woo!! It doesn't matter much who the 3rd QB is, they'll only see the field during August.. I say give it to whomever performs.

IMO Lemon will be with the Ravens just for camp. He knows Cam's system so it will be easier to evaluate WRs, while Lemon is in because he already knows the system.

Cam could just give Cleo a play and the WR would just have to run their routes, but with a guy that doesn't know Cam's system he would have to learn the compete. That would just set the WRs back imo.

Now with Willy he might be a guy that we wanna see what he's got and possible keep him around for practice Squad.

Also keep in mind that last year Bouman was signed about 2 weeks before the regular season, and he spent most of the year as the 3rd QB. So I wouldn't be surprised to see the Ravens put Willy on the PS, and sign a veteran to be #3. A guy that can continue to help Flacco and Smith just like Bouman did.

Neither Flacco or Smith have shown signs of being frail. We should go into the season with 2 QBs and add an additional OL or WR. Lord knows we lose these positions to the IR demon left and right.

I'll respectfully disagree, he wouldn't be the number 3 either.

From the looks of things, Beck doesn't have a broken Collar bone, CBS Sports has him out on the field with the team today.

Now they are not hitting, but the QB doesn't get hit anyway. His injury was to his throwing shoulder, so if he was broken they wouldn't have him throwing at all.

Well, seems like Beck does have a broken collarbone now. Seeing as it appears we signed Cleo Lemon.
Actually appears he DOES NOT have a broken collarbone.

"Beck practiced on an extremely limited basis with no visible discomfort Sunday. Just in case he's out for an extended period due to sprained muscles and ligaments after a magnetic resonance imaging exam didn't reveal any tears or broken bones, Lemon was signed to a one-year contract for the veteran minimum."
