Madden NFL 10 Impressions?

Has anyone run into the universe ending retirement of Ray Ray yet? Ive gone to year 5 (2014? I think it was) and Lewis was still a 95 overall lol. Granted I won 2 more DPOY awards with him in 2010 and 2012 but the cyber Lewis just doesnt run out of gas, he still has like 81 speed.

PS- is anyone else JUICED that you can get the old Ray Lewis/Suggs/AD/CMac in the ultimate team thing? Ray with 88 speed lol, AD with 97 block shed, C-Mac with 96 man coverage. Then add in Rex Ryan coaching card from 2006 and it boosts all defensive players 10%. Anyone else surprised that Rex's card from 06 is a 99 and Marvin Lewis' card from '00 is a 92....talk about getting doo doo'ed on lol.

Ray hasn't retired for me yet but I'm in 2012 about to play the Super Bowl (4th year) and anticipating him retiring. He's still at a 95 or above, but his hands are pretty much gone; he used to lead my team (and the league) in INTs since I always dropped him back in coverage, but in this past season, he's dropped so many passes that went right to him.

I have Derrick Mason as my head coach right now, but I'm inclined to hire Ray as my head coach once he's eligible and demote Mason to Offensive Coordinator while Harbaugh's still my defensive coordinator. (Funny how all that works, huh? lol)

At the age of 37 Ray retired for me. Ed Reed however is still hanging in there. He's 39 years old haha, hasn't lost any speed, he's still a 99 ovr. :bananallama:

I'm in the year 2018 i believe. Harbaugh is still my headcoach. Mattison is still my D-Coordinator and Hue Jackson is my O-Coordinator.

I'm in 2013 and Ray is still doing well. I drafted this kid named Freeman who is a beast, he will be Rays replacement!

Once you get a season or two in, more and more players in the game that retire, start showing up as coaching options. They'll have no picture and won't look anything like their player models in the game, but you can usually guess it's them even though you can't see their first name.

For instance, D. Mason is obviously Derrick Mason, M. Muhammad is obviously Muhsin Muhammad, and so on and so forth. They are experienced at their position of expertise and give you a boost in that area; hiring Mason gives you a WR boost, Junior Seau gives you a LB boost, etc.

K I still cant get over how sweet it is to have the older players in their prime. I got Isaac Bruce from the Rams in 2001, hes a 93 overall with 99 route running....he's uncoverable lol. Every game he has like over 150 receiving for me. Even with Matt Guitterez throwing him the ball lol.

I think I have no choice but to restart my Franchise now that my cap space is $-38 million!... I can't re-sign anyone and I can't trade/release anyone without taking more cap penalties into next year.

I managed the cap well enough but I guess signing DeSean Jackson was the last straw. :(

That's exactly the way I do it, the only time I am active in Free Agency is signing cheap backups to my starters lol. I have gotten in cap trouble when I would sign Ngata to the first Ravens $100 Million contract and I would come up on re-signing Ray Rice and Joe Flacco. I would have to cut people to make sure I can re-sign Ray and Joe. I found this really awesome site that gives you all the details on each draft class in the game, each draft class has been labeled by the best QB of each draft and it also gives you a list of Draft Class Clones meaning that rookie is a clone of a current or former player. This is a pretty cool page, not sure if anyone else has found it but it is interesting. Here is the full list of Clones and Replicas, Link at the bottom.

QB - Joe Flacco (Vick, Colt McCoy as backups)
RB - Ray Rice (Ahmad Bradshaw & draft pick as backups)
FB - Le'Ron McClain
WR - DeSean Jackson, Deonte Thompson (Mark Clayton, Pierre Garcon, and some guy as backups)
TE - Todd Heap (two draft picks as backups)
OL - Jared Gaither, Mike Pollak, Ben Grubbs, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Michael Oher
DL - Haloti Ngata, Brandon Graham, Chris Baker (don't remember my backups)
MLB - Ray Lewis, Tavares Gooden (Jameel McClain)
OLB - Paul Kruger, Terrell Suggs (Jarret Johnson, Elvis Dumervil)
CB - Orlando Scandrick, Lardarius Webb (some random backups)
FS - Ed Reed (draft pick as backup)
SS - Chris Horton (Dawan Landry)
K - Garrett Hartley
P - Sam Koch

Yeahhh...lots of big contracts that I didn't even mean to give out all at once, and wayyyy too many contracts with big signing bonuses, which are the biggest cap penalties that you take when you sign/release players. The other issue was that I had signed Santana Moss in free agency the year earlier but then traded him despite his big contract just to get DeSean Jackson after Jackson refused to sign with me as a FA and went to San Diego...and I ended up giving Jackson a big contract on top of that, too. Yeahhhh... -_-

Having DeSean Jackson and Deonte Thompson paid off the most dividends for me since my offense was setting records through the air like crazy. Jackson was just crazy-good, breaking tackles like whoa and making ridiculous catches. Best deep threat I've ever seen in this year's game. But, the cost was wayyyy too high.

If I start over (which I probably will), Jackson will be the only high-dollar acquisition I'll try my hardest to get EARLY.

It's hard to play on All-Madden with the way the CB's can cover and the MAGICAL/BS INTS the LBS get. I had a Dlineman chase down Ray Rice on a slant? WTheck? RR also fumbles once per game for me....

I was playing on custom difficulty with EVERYTHING cranked up as hard as possible and that was a nightmare -- yet, I still almost won. Had I not shanked a 20-yard field goal, I would've won by 2 points; I picked random teams and ended up with the Broncos and faced the Patriots. -_-

On another note, passing on the highest custom difficulty is near-impossible, especially with such an inaccurate QB like Kyle Orton; it almost exaggerates how inaccurate he is, since I'll LOOK in one direction but he'll THROW all the way on the other side of the field for an easy pick. Ridiculous. <_<

They need to bring back QB vision for online play. Qb vision was sick, and it made it realistic in going through your progressions.

LOL. How about the amount of penalties they call on you , too? Its almost retarded.
I've never had pass interference called on me as often as when I turned up the custom difficulty all the way. I would control a DB and defend a pass cleanly with a swat but would then merely NUDGE the receiver AFTER the ball was swatted and still get flagged. Or, when I would switch to a DB, he'd be oriented in the wrong direction and I would subsequently press the directional stick too far the wrong way and run into the receiver accidentally and get PI. Ughh...that's why i stopped play coverage almost entirely.

I used to love QB vision, but using it online used to be a nightmare with the older games with nano-blitzing and people switching to the DB for an easy pick if there was lag.

It'd be interesting to see how it'd be utilized in the next Madden if they brought it back. I used to be amazing with it offline against people. It was so gratifying to tear people's secondaries to shreds with all my ridiculous progressions; someone actually watched my hands when I did it once and said it was ridiculous how instinctive and fast I was with it.

It takes him FOREVER to actually snap the ball too... Hmm, maybe too realistic.lol
There's actually a bug in the game where, if you use motion a lot, it eventually gets to a point in the game where you literally CANNOT snap the ball until you pause and then unpause the game. I've had to do that online and made sure to apologize to ppl I've played later because they'd think I was trying to catch them offguard or something. Same for when the score and game clock literally disappears at the bottom of the screen; I've actually done a two-minute drill in an online game without the clock before and it was the most difficult thing I've had to do -- and I still scored a TD, and apparently with 6 seconds left to spare in the half.

I've had this happen before, it really sucks! I was like, how the heck does this happen. It was also with inside of 2 mins. Maybe thats when its most often happening to people.

I know in Madden it's like impossible to actually retire numbers but does anyone actually retire numbers and make sure nobody wears certain numbers. I have done this with the Ravens and making sure nobody wears 3, 75 and 52(when Ray Ray retires) and I was just seeing if anyone else did.

I've done that too. No one's touched those same numbers you've chosen, but I've also included Steve McNair's #9. And just as a general rule, I never give anyone #1 because almost no one wears that in the NFL and it's "my" number since I bought a customized authentic #1 Ravens jersey with my name on it.

When Ed Reed retires in my game (which won't be for awhile since I had to start all over), #20 is off-limits and same with Joe Flacco's #5.

What's the best Rebuilding you guys have done? Is it taking the Lions from 1-15 to 8-8 to eventually a Super Bowl victory, or the Rams, raiders, etc. I haven't really done any rebuilding yet I am working on the Lions now and I have them set with their offensive line so Stafford is protected. I have took them to 9-7 with a missed playoff appearance in the first season and looking for a playoff birth in the second year;

What's the biggest Trade you have done in Franchise? I mostly build through the draft so I value draft picks and so far I have Jarrett Johnson's replacement, Pryce's replacement and I just drafted Ed Reed's replacement who is a 85 and projected A I'll have him start after sitting on the bench for two years. The biggest trade I pulled was giving up my whole draft for DHB and Ramses Barden. I traded my 4th to the Giants for Barden, than I gave up a 1st & 3rd to Oakland along with Marcus Smith to get DHB. I uploaded the NCAA draft class and will move up to grab Rolando McClain to take over for Ray. It will be hard as hell with Ngata Franchised and having to pay him, I gave Rice a 7 year contract worth $50 some million(that's what happens when in his first SB he runs for over 225 yards and gets SB MVP) and Joe coming up on his contract year all while trying to trade up for McClain and give him a 6 year rookie contract. I hate managing the cap in this game.

P.S. If you guys haven't downloaded the latest roster update for Madden than good you can still play with Kurt Warner. In the SB update, they took Kurt Warner and his team mate Berry out of the game completely due to retirement meaning you when you start a Cardinals Franchise your stuck with Leinart, so pretty much for a game based off last season, they took Warner out when he played last season.
