Tailgating Stories

9 posts in this topic

I always wanted to start this topic. Just curious what you all have seen in the lots pre or post game.

I went to the Buffalo game in the '07 season. It was in Buffalo and one of the tailgating painted school bus folks staged a fake wrestling match (WWE style) on the top of their bus. One was dressed up like Ed Reed, the other like Hogan with a Bills jersey. It was a riot...they were very inebriated and used all kinds of funny props.

So, what have you all seen over the years? I will think of some more as I remember them.

I've only been to one game, and it was against the dolphins, and the actual game was more fun than the tailgating, I was also sitting in the dolphins side of the field.... as one of 2 die hard ravens fan... 3 if you count my friend... who wanted to wear a dolphins jersey... but after some "persuading" he went with a ravens hat :P

I can give you a memorable one from last night. We had to have an ambulance come pick up one of our gang who appeared to be having a heart attack. He's okay (his nitro helped), but they took him to the hospital anyway.

Anyone here ever go to Giants Stadium for Ravens vs Jets or Giants? I'd be curious to hear of your encounters.

I support the Giants, but ONE TIME I wore a Rod Woodson jersey for a game. Most of the Giants fans were cool, but there were a few who wanted to fight.

Giants Stadium p-lot is always a fun spot for tailgating though. Even for concerts and stuff.

Wearing a purple Woodson jersey to Three Rivers made for an interesting day, my husband did that. There have been too many to recant over the last 10 years. The sacrifice of the Steeler fan jerseys, darn thing would not ignite even with sterno.
I hope it is a while before we hit that stretch like last year at home, Eagles, Skins and Steelers at home back to back--that was brutal!
Beer raining down from the upper deck for the Eagles game and people trying to jump off rails to get into a fight because a Steeler fan spit on a Ravens fan. Tailgates were not much better.

I love tailgating just the stories that are told the things that are done around us. And it all helps that we have our own fantasy league, some crazy trash talk.

Then when the game is over, and we go back to the car, everyone drunk and trying to talk about the game(we tailgate for about half hour-hour after the game). If we win, we have a great time, if we lose we have a horrible time.

The best time I think I had was when I had to make the food, and I was using the grill for burgers, and the grill went up in flames because we didn't clean it. It was funny.

I've a few, although as a responsbile mod can't really go into detail. Let's just say we've had some interesting encounters with Steelers and Colts fans.

Had some Ravens fans come over from the UK a few years ago - Raiders game in '06. They have a tradition at some UK rugby games (originates from Chelsea FC) of throwing sticks of celery at opposing fans, while singing a song about celery. So they brought celery. Literally pounds of it. With a couple hundred Ravens fans fully equipped, they unleashed a shower of the green vegetable upon the hoardes of Raiders fans in Lot J. They were also taunted with songs such as 'are you Cleveland in disguise?'. The Raiders fans largely took it in good humor.

That was a good tailgate.

I guess they realized that if you go to a Raiders game i Oakland and are not wearing silver or black, they stab you. Literally. A little celery is cake-walk to them.
