Food For Thought..about Our Schedule

44 posts in this topic

The Ravens play three teams coming off a bye (in consecutive weeks; Broncos, Bengals, Browns), the Steelers play zero teams coming off a bye. The Steelers play 3 consecutive teams the week after the team plays the Ravens (Vikings, Broncos, Bengals). The Ravens play zero teams after they play the Steelers.

I guess the Ravens will just have to be tougher than the Steelers and the other teams that are playing fresh - but that's nothing new for them.

I get what you're saying though.

That is interesting just like all the prime time nationally televised games are always in Pittsburg until we spoke up and complained. Its just the way it is.

At least its not as slanted as baseball where an outsider might think the only two teams in the whole league are New York and Boston.

Hey, Bye week or no bye week I feel that the Ravens are far superior to the Browns,Bengals, and Broncos. As far as the Steelers playing teams the week after they've played the Ravens. Remember last season, we went to NY and got beat 30-10 the next week the Ravens beat NY's biggest rival (philly) in a 36-7 blow out (didn't allow an offensive score that game) those two teams are the Ravens and Steelers of the NFC East. So that being said, It MAY be a small advantage to the Steelers if the other team gets injured while playing the Ravens but I don't think the Ravens are hanging their heads, they are ready to play anyone any time anywhere. If they are the toughest team then it doesn't matter

At least I don't have to hear all the complaining about how hard their schedule is and blah blah blah. When they had like the same schedule as us except for 2 games.

If you think about it our schedule was harder than theirs.
1. We were 5-11 so most teams we faced (and every team in our division) were better.
2. Dolphins took their division, which made them, not the Patriots, the team to beat in that division.
3. We faced the Steelers, they faced the Ravens.
4. I don't recall them having a second week bye.

I know! And our second week bye wasn't really a bye considering we prepared for the Texans for a whole week and then changed plans. And the preparation that goes into a game that is in a week is different than a bye week.

Well hopefully we go 3-0 in those games and its a moot point. Steelers caught a lot of breaks last year, but they also took advantage so whatever. Personally I don't think they go 4-0 vs Cincy/Cleveland this year and certainly not 2-0 vs the Ravens.

Aren't they like 13-3 against the Browns? We know the Bengals aren't going to live up to people's expectations, so why couldn't they go 4-0 against them?

Yea you could look at it that way, or this way.
Broncos, at home, at 1. They may be fresh but the time zones could screw them up.
Bengals, dont scare me this season, defense still sucks, no running game
Browns, I'm a little worried because it is a night game and is in Cleveland, two things we are not good at, but its still THE BROWNS!

You could say that when teams come off the bye they are fresh, but younger teams become too relaxed and dont show up to play the next game.

We will probably have our 2nd string in by half time for the Broncos game. Not sounding cocky but that franchise is falling apart.

I don't think this will be a problem for the Ravens.

This is a team that had to play 18 striaght games with the last 6-7 being playoff type games.

This is the same team that over came being hand picked for the Dallas home coming.

This is a team that had to play Pit,Tenn, and Indy back to back o back.

Harbs had this team lock and loaded last year. This year won't be any different.

This team will be focused. It doesn't matter who they have to play and when they have to play them.

The NFL could make the Ravens play on a parking lot in the middle of a snow storm and I could promise you 2 things.

1. The Ravens would come ready to play.

2. The Baltimore Ravens fan would sell it out.

I think the 09' Ravens are going to be special and it's not much the NFL can do to stop us from doing our thing.

Well, you're right its entirely possible. But I'm an optimist AND, whether they'll admit it or not, there is the possibility of a SB hangover. I just remember '06, although it was Cowher's team then. I think we all know "any given Sunday" in the NFL and upsets do happen.

I think its a fair assessment but NO WAY Detroit beats us. Other than that we have a chance at beating san diago week 2 i think........ or maybe patriots if Brady becomes gun shy.

Yeah, I do not see Detroit beating us. He gives us the nod at home against the Steelers, and then says we'll lose to Detroit at home? The Steelers and Lions are no where near the same level *shrugs*

I also think we'll get a win against Minnesota. I'd go 12-4, not 10-6

That read like a book. Chapter by Chapter, what happens next?

I hate how we gain redemption against the Steelers in the first game but then the "Steelers claim Dominance over the Ravens again" occurs. what the heck?

And what is up with the love for Minnesota. Their game plays exactly into our hands. They will be force to throw, and my guess Sage Rosenfels will be the guy, will make a costly mistake. Pick 6.

Oh man, I totally forgot about their lackluster quarterback situation. Yeah...both quarterbacks are mistake-prone. Those are exactly the wrong type of Quarterbacks to throw the ball when Ed Reed is on the field.

The analysis is fair, but there is no chance Detroit wins. We should be able to win at Minnesota and a win against Green Bay isnt far off either.

I don't see the Ravens being blown out by the Patriots. IMO the Ravens proved how to beat New England in 07..be more physical than them and tougher. We saw what was probably Willis Mcgahee's best game of his career against them. I think in Foxboro it will definitely be a tough win, I picked them to lose that one but I think it will be a close game our corners aren't going to get beat deep by Moss and Welker, we can stop their running game. It's not going to be a blow out win for the Patriots.
All credibility that I might have given the author of that article was lost when he picked DETROIT to win at M&T Bank when the Ravens will most likely be neck and neck with the Steelers for the Division. I think the Ravens beat Minnesota, Adrian Peterson hasn't played a defense like this one yet he's in for a wake up call. We saw what the Ravens did to Sage Rosenfels last season and I don't think this year would be any different except that now he has less talent at WR and TE to throw to. I'll agree that the Ravens could lose in Pittsburgh, but if they win it will be for the division.

agreed, with the QBs the Vikings have, Ed Reed and company will pick up INTs like nothing. My only concern is AP, hopefully we stuff his run.
