Ravens Future Hall Of Famers?

21 posts in this topic

After watching the HOF ceremonies today, it made me wonder: what current ravens have a ligit shot of ending up in canton? I think that its pretty safe to say that Lewis is a shoe in, but after that, who knows.. mason have any chance whatsoever? i think Reed needs to put out a few more solid years and get a ring on his finger before he's even in the discussion.. anyway, what do you guys think?

Lewis and Ogden - Lewis is first ballot, Ogden might be (the talent in Ogdens year is logjammed)
Reed - Probably, theres never been a better ballhawk at safety
Suggs and Mason? Realistically ... no.

Lewis, of course. And I'll second Ogden. And honestly, I think Reed will make it eventually. He has better hands and instincts then most Wide Outs. So unless he takes a freak turn for the worse, he'll be recognized and inducted one day.

Other than those two though, I really don't see anyone else in the discussion at the moment. Maybe if we hit our stride and have some good seasons in the following years some more names will pop up though.

Ray Lewis and Jon Ogden are shoe-ins, they dominated the league.

Ed Reed, if he strings together some more productive years, could very well be considered. He is still relatively young in his NFL career, only 7 seasons under his belt, so he has time to put up more stats.

Matt Stover, if the voters didn't hold a stigma against ST players, would surely be voted in. 5th on all-time points scored, 83+ FG percentage; he has been one of the best his entire career.

Shannon Sharpe, yes he was a Raven, will get in next year. Mark my words.

Deion Sanders, too, prime-time!

Suggs and Mason probably won't be considered. Terrell is still young and hasn't put up astounding numbers. Mason's career got off to a slow start and, as a result, his numbers are lagging behind players of his era; plus, he doesn't catch a lot of TDs (not his fault, just the systems he's been in)

That's how I see it.

Obviously Ray Lewis will be in the HOF. I think Ed Reed is going to own a record or two before his career is over and get in as well. Wouldn't be surprised if Ogden made it a few years after eligibility either.

True, Sharpe was a Raven, but only for two years and one Super Bowl Ring. He was a Bronco for the majority of his career (12 years) and he won two Super Bowls with them. So, honestly, he'll be inducted as a Bronco.

As for Jamal Lewis, I don't really ever seeing him making the cut for the Hall of Fame. He only has 58 career touchdowns, one Pro Bowl, and one Super Bowl Ring to his credentials. Only way I can see him making it in, is if either:
a ) The Brown rushing game stays hot for a few years
or
b ) He goes to a new, successful team after his contract with Cleveland is up

Yes, I know Sharpe spent most of his years as in Denver and he'll be inducted as a Bronco, that's obvious.

Well, I was just saying because I was under the impression that we're talking about Players who will be inducted as a Raven. Not players who played two years or so on the Ravens and will be inducted under another team's banner.

I can see Ray Lewis, Ogden definitely getting in. Maybe Stover too?

Reed should be a sureshot if he keeps it up maybe a few more years.

Ngata? anyone think if he keeps this up, he will make it?

Ngata will have to step it up in the sack column if he wants to make it into the Hall of Fame. I definitely think he has the potential though. Aside from Lewis, Ngata and Reed are probably the two current Ravens who have the best chance of earning their way into the Hall one day.

I think Reed could retire today and get in. 43 picks is nothing to sneeze at, especially in 7 years. I believe that leads all active players. Brian Dawkins has played twice as long and has 34. And I think he'll get in. Dawk is a little more well rounded, but he hasn't won a superbowl either and Reed aslo has plenty of scores to his name. Not a first ballot guy, but I think he's compiled the respect and the numbers to get in already.

If he keeps up the pace, I'm sure he'll be a first ballot.

I'll agree that Reed is most likely a given. He's one of the biggest game-changers in the league. Especially against average Quarterbacks. I can't think of many guys who can bait a QB and anticipate where the ball will be like Reed. Not to mention he owns the top two spots in the longest interception returns in the history of the NFL.

(Slightly off-topic perhaps, but I've actually had friends refuse to throw the ball anywhere near Ed Reed when we would play Madden. Which made it easy to anticipate throws to Landry and the right side of the field. Haha)

I don't doubt that he will be. If he gets to 50 picks I think he's a lock. Just saying if he called it quits today, I think he'd get in.

I don't think it's a matter of if he gets to 50 picks, so much as it is a matter of when he gets to 50 picks :P

He just may have that after this season, not to mention a few more defensive touchdowns.

The only real "Raven", other then anyone already mentioned that I could see being considered is C-Mac. He was easily the second best corner of his generation behind Champ Bailey. But I dont think he has the numbers or individual accomplishments that would get him in.

Yeah, I don't think he has the accomplishments or stats to get him in either. Which is sad, he's always been one of my favorite Corners. Perhaps if he could have staved off injuries he may have had a better chance.
