Willie Anderson

14 posts in this topic

Ive heard from numerous people that the ravens are attempting to bring back Vet Willie Anderson. I Really hope these rumors are true, I feel like Oher really needs the Veteran Mentor to help him progress into a star, player. We would only have to pay Anderson a minimum and he could help Oher become that star tackle. What you guys think?

If he's capable then that would be great. I'm just worried about his knees. Isnt that why he retired in the first place?

Yepers. If he doesn't think his body can hold up, there's not much the Ravens can do to convince him to play. If playing would jeopardize his health/quality of life, he should do the smart thing and stay put.

no im saying just bring him in for support of oher, to help him getbetter.... Also to add good depth he wouldnt have to play that much. More like be a mentor to Oher.

We brought in Birk to mentor our OL. And I am sure Ogden and Big Zeus will pop up at TC eventually, if they havent already. I am content going with what we have. The good thing about our OL, especially on the right side is that we've got a bunch of young guys that have experience at multiple positions on the OL. If Oher goes down or something like that, Yanda played RT his rookie year. We could move him to RT for Oher and substitute Chester in at RG, which he played most of last year.

I think you bring up a lot of valid points, but don't forget two things- 1) It never hurts to have depth, and Willie could be a good backup RT and be used in jumbo packages. 2) Yanda is coming off of a major knee injury, and we have no idea how he will look when real-game situations present themselves. Counting on him right now isn't a lock, so that could be why the Ravens are contacting Willie.

GREAT POINT. BIRK IS HOPEFULLY TAKING THE ROLE OF MENTOR TO THE OL AND MANY YOUNG GUYS. ANDERSON IMO LEFT IT ALL ON THE FIELD, TOO SUSPECT FOR ANOTHER INJURY!
SORRY 4 THE CAPS LOCK.

Resigning Anderson would be one less roster spot. Anderson isn't coming from retirement for a league minimum or to teach a rookie how to play a position. Willie woudn't have much pride for the team considering the amount of time he played for the organization and the amount he played against it.

pretty much summed it up right there

give Oher some time, he has the athleticism and strength to get by, he'll learn these things as time goes and hopefully Birk teaches him a few things too.
