I myself believe Flacco will be at least as good as last year and will keep the starting role. In Training Camp Flacco has thrown a lot of interceptions while Troy Smith has shined. Why do you think Flacco can shine game time but lacks in TC. Does he need a warm up or is his not taking it seriously?

What are your expectations for the QB position and Flacco future season?

Troy Smith has "shined"?

This topic is utterly ridiculous. Flacco, for sure, takes it "seriously". Our "QB situation" is set. Troy Smith won't be nipping at Joe Flacco's ankles in any figurative or literal (hopefully) manner. This is annoying.

In training camp Troy Smith has outshined Flacco, do you disagree you think Flacco has shown better skills?

Yes. Take a look at a little piece of film called the 2008 regular and post-season. More over, I don't think anyone is keeping track of how many touchdowns or interceptions that any of our QBs are throwing, not even the coaches. They're more focused on mechanics, decision-making, grasp of the offense, footwork, and things that define a QB rather than something Mike Duffy can tweet.

have you actually been to training camp this year?.. just because one writer said "Flacco is off the mark" I think people read too much into it... keep in mind his #1 WR wasnt here to start TC and his #2 hasn't taken the field yet.. he's looked fine in the afternoon practices recently, but of course the guy is going to throw some picks against the ravens starting defense, who wouldnt?? im not bashing anyone at all with my comments, but from my personal viewing of flacco, he's showed a lot of improvements since this time last year in TC

So you think Flacco will be back to his 08' skill set or better.

I haven't been to a camp yet but I have heard Flacco wasn't too impressive but Troy Smith was on the mark from other people.

So you have seen Flacco is TC and you think people are over reacting his diminish?

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure most of Troy's success has come against our 2nd and 3rd string, while Flacco has the the pleasant task of going against our first team. Call me crazy but I'd like to think our starters are better then our backups.

I think he'll be better. He's obviously put in a whole lot of work in the offseason, has taken more of a leadership role, and has delved deeper into Cameron's system. I haven't heard too much criticism of Flacco, just that article by Preston, he is just dandy. We're still in the genesis of training camp, anyways, we are hardly a week in.

I can't be certain what you're saying because there are three separate sentences there... but I think you meant something like:

1) You're stating Troy Smith has outshined Flacco?
2) Are you asking if he disagrees?
3) Are you asking if Flacco has shown better skills?

I don't know if Troy has been better than Joe - not there, not on staff. Unless folks are at camp to observe... and are an expert in QB play at the NFL level... Dunno.

IS this even a question? Yea, let's NOT start the quarterback who led our offense and was a big reason why we went to the AFC Championship game.

From what i've heard Troy Smith has actually regressed. So if you are not out at camp viewing with your own eyes, it just comes down to how you view written words, and who's opinion do u respect more.

As for Flacco throwing picks. The guy is a second year QB after all. If anyone thinks he will be prefect then think again. He is going against one of the best defenses in practice, so like Harbs said. When Flacco throws INTs it makes him better, when he throws TD passes he makes the defense better.

People make a lot out of Flacco's INTs, but everyday he seems to be connecting on long Bombs and TDs. But nobody seems to acknowledge that. I'm not saying that Flacco throwing Ints is not a issues but i don't think it is a big issues. The course and flow of a real game is so much different from practice.

In practice you work on things to try and see what works and what doesn't. When doing that sometimes you make mistakes. In a real game you look to execute the things you know that work well, and work your gameplan vs whatever defense.

I actually think Flacco will have a really good season. Something like 3300 yards 24 TDs 8 Ints. I'll take that any season.

I hate polls as they box you in.

I think Flacco will improve, but not because this is "just training camp" as I think these practices really do matter.

I have been to training camp and I think Joe is doing just fine IMO. It is only training camp and I think that Cam is throwing every play he's got at Joe to see how Joe handles himself. Granted, Joe has thrown some interceptions against our 1st string D. As another poster stated, Troy does not play against the first string D at camp. Joe is our franchise QB and Troy will never take his place. If Joe is hurt, I'm not so sure that Beck wouldn't take over the job. Let's not make this another Joe vs. Troy thread. We had too many of those prior to last season. Joe's the man for us this year. I expect he will improve. After all, he did play 19 games last year and other than the championship game, I think he did exceptionally good for a 1st year QB, who really didn't get as many snaps as Troy and Kyle did in training camp.

What people got to realize is that Flacco is practicing every day with the best defense in the National Football League.

True. So when he plays against the Steelers it is like pee wee, lol (I wish).

There is NO open competition in the Ravens' camp for the QB starter. Period. Joe Flacco, barring injury, will start vs. the Chiefs in Week 1.

Everyone knows who gets the nod in the first game, the original question was "will Troy pass Flacco mid season". Apparently Smith has only good great because he was playing against the second team and Flacco would naturally look worse playing against top ranked pass defense.

There is no way that Smith passes Flacco. Flacco has the most potential and showed a lot of upside. If he struggles a little you don't take him out. He needs to go through his growing pains. But Flacco has more potential which is why we drafted him in the first round.

You know threads like this prove just how lousy our QB situation has been over the last decade. We've finally got a guy that looks like he can be that guy for many years to come and instead of giving him the chance to prove himself, we are essentially still looking for the guy. We've got a QB, we dont need to hold or debate the QB competition anymore. ITS OVER PEOPLE. If Flacco throw 20+ TD's, something we havent had a QB do in a VERY long time, there will probably still be people questioning whether he is the starter, just because we are not used to having stability at the QB position.

Don't doubt Flacco. He's our guy, he's our offensive leader. He's the QB we've been waiting on and he's here and look what he has done. He became the 1st rookie QB to win 2 playoff games. He was the Diet Pepsi Rookie Of The Year.

Flacco is a gunslinger, he will eventually put in 300+ yard games. He has worked on his accuracy a ton this off-season. He needs to work on his consistency and be able to read what the defense is bringing.

I think he is going to have a great year.

I project this:

3,452 yards. 27 TDS. 12 INTS.

Why I'm I looking for the guy when he is already here. Very good point.

I also believe Coach said in one of the pressers that they were changing some of Joe's delivery mechanics and he was not concerned at all.

As of right this moment, statistic wise, this is what I see Flacco doing with the receivers we have.

68.5% pass completion. 3,080 yards. 18 TD's 13 INT's

That's one MIGHTY high completion percentage you've put there. What's he gonna do, throw 10 times a game and each throw is a TD or an interception?

i went to training camp 1 day this year and 2 days last year and saw all of the same things out of Troy Smith. he is a BAD QB!!! he hesitates on throws every time, resulting in picks. he doesn't even take practice seriously. he just goes threw the motions. John Beck looked head and shoulders above Troy and Beck was running with the 3rd team, against the first team defense.

i get so sick of this topic. Troy Smith isn't going to start for us, get it out of your heads. if you actually went to Training Camp to see these guys play, you wouldn't be asking questions like "will Smith pass Flacco". that is a joke...

No I don't think there is any chance at all that Smith passes Flacco during the season. Unless perhaps Flacco gets seriously injured (knock on wood). At most Smith could see more use through our wildcat (didn't we call it wildbird or something) plays.
