2010 Draft Wishlist

55 posts in this topic

I know the 2010 draft is 8 months away...but does anyone have anybody they feel we could use. I know I have a few especially in the 1st rd. Just hope one of them is going to be available.

Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma TE
Height: 6-6. Weight: 260.

Athletic TE that can do it all. Catch, Run Routes, and block(well). His play reminds me of both Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez.

Brandon Spikes, Florida ILB
Height: 6-3. Weight: 244.

Possible Ray Lewis replacement a year or 2 down the road. Great intangibles. Great defensive leader for the Gators. I believe he'd be the same here. Could play in either the 3-4, or 4-3.

Sergio Kindle, Texas DE/OLB
Height: 6-4. Weight: 254.

Incredibly fast, and surprisingly strong DE for his size. Imagine drafting this guy and putting him on the same defense as Terrell Suggs. Almost the same kind of player as T-Sizzle. But with two major pass rushers this defense would be even scarier. Hopefully he could gain a little more weight to get even stronger.

Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State WR
Height: 6-2. Weight: 210.

The perfect receiver for Joe. Big, physical, great body control, and amazing jump ball skills. Only down side is his speed. Which is good but not elite. Put up amazing number as sophomore. Nearly 1500 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Any others to add to the wish-list?

I feel we need a young defensive player such as a linebacker or a defensive end. But with the raven's draft strategy, i'm sure who ever we get will be beneficial.

Spikes or Bryant would be very nice to get but if we do as well this season as we all hope than they both will be gone before we ever make our first pick.

Well you are right I mean unless something dramatic happens and both or one of them happen to be there at # 32 :D Brandon Spikes is one guy I would love to have on this team but I doubt he will fall. For right now entering the Pre-season this is what I think we should target next year:

Defensive Tackle/Right End: Kelly Gregg isn't going to be around forever and he is one guy who could hang it up if the Ravens win the Super Bowl. If Gregg does retire after this season or whenever he retires we'll need his replacement. We could just move Haloti Ngata to DT full time which would leave us a hole at RE. I believe Kruger will replace Pryce at LE when he hangs it up. I'm just thinking that's where we should go toward in the first round next year, DT to replace Gregg(if we don't move Ngata to DT) or RE if we do move Ngata to DT.

Some guys i want in round 1

HB - Johnathan Dwyer
Sure, we have Ray Rice. But Is he a feature back that can carry it 20 times a game. I think he is but having two great backs is a must in todays game and McGahee will be a cap casualty and McClain is a FB. Dwyer is the best Runningback to come out since Adrian Peterson and IMo could be a consisiten 1000 yard rusher with 10 TDS. He displays a very bulky body with good mass aroung his legs. He reminds me of Michael Turner in a lot of ways. Shows good vision and can just knock people over with ease. Love him a lot and would like Flacco to have a great running game for a long time behind our young line.

WR - Dez Bryant - This kid jsut flat out balls. Doesnt have speed but neither does Fitzgerald. Bryant has very good hands and will have an amazing vertical jump at the combine. Will beat any corner on a jump ball and even though he isnt fast he stretchs the field and is a deep threat. He runs good routes for a college player and could turn into a Fitzgerald type player. The potential is through the roof and i would love him here in Baltimore.

WR - Arelious Benn - Can you say Brandon Marshall and Anquan Boldin combined. There is no way i see Benn falling outside top 5 so we wont get him but if by some slim chance he does i would be estatic to get him. He has amazing hands. Is very physcial, good speed and can block. He goes over the middle and can do deep. He is the best since Calvin Johnson and i truly believe he will be one of the best wideouts in the game in a few years. He wont fall but if he does id love him here

TE - Jermain Gresham - Gresham just creates mismatches every play for the defense. He is an extremly fast tight end who runs very crisp routes and has good hands. Willing blocker who i think could be the best TE in the game one day. With him on the field there would always be a mismatch and ozzie wanted Pettigrew last year and this year i see Gresham very high on the board. Would love him here to give Flacco that blanket over the middle

C - Kris O'Dowd - This is an iffy one as i would love to see Chris Chester step up and play C to complete our line but If O'Dowd falls he is the BPA. This kid is top 15 talent and is a far superior center to any one in last years class. Would like him to complete our line although i would like to think Chester can step up

NT - Terrance Cody - people eater. With Ngata and Cody on the line nobody would run on us. This would allow us to heavily focus on pass rush and just makes the other offenses useless against us. Having two monster like Ngata and Cody would be more dominant than the williams wall and we would be set on the dline for a long time. Also insurance of Ngata cant be resigned although i hope thats not the case. Would love Cody here to play the NT spot for us

RE - Ndamukong Suh - With Ngata's versatility we can pick either a NT or 5T. I think Ngata is more suited to play NT and with a guy like Suh next to him the line would free up every linebacker. Ngata demands double teams and Suh is an amazing player that just gets to the Quarterback. A great pass rusher and run stopper. Reminds we of a Kevin Williams. Would love a pass rusher to go along with Ngata's run stopping ability.

OLB - Sergio Kindle - Suggs is a great player but we need that rush backer that we havent had since AD left. Kindle is a pass rush monster and is a sack machine. He could be devastating in the defense and with a pass rush of Suggs and Kindle from the outside it makes for one scary day for the opposing teams offensive line as you cant double both of them. One of them will get to the quarterback. Sure a passrusher isnt really a need because Suggs is a beast but why not upgrade. People tend to believe Suggs cant rush the QB. Just llok at the playoffs and youll see why that statement is wrong. 1 sack against Jake Long. 1 sack against the best LT in football (micahel roos) and 2 sacks against the steelers where he dragged down Big Jen with one arm. I would love a pass rush defense and kindle gives us that

ILB - Brandon Spikes - as others have said he wont be arounf but i would love him here. Is a leader and a beast on the field. Would be a great player next to Tavares although im very confident in Jameel and even Dannell Ellerbe to play next to Tavares in a few years when ray hangs it up. Would love Spikes buts its unlikely

ILB - Rolando McClain - A straight up runn stuffer at the linebacker spot. Is a monster in the run game and jsut makes plays. Not as good as Spikes but still has very good qualities. would be an amazing TED guy and jsut take on the fullbacks. Very physical which i love.

2nd round guys id like

If we dont get Dwyer in round 1 id love Lagarett Blount who is the next Steven Jackson/Brandon Jacobs type player.

I would also love Demaryius Thomas - WR - Georgia Tech in this round. Huge pysical beast who is amazing with ball in hand and just flat out balls. Because Gt are a running team he gets lost in the shuffle but he sure can play and i think he could be a great #1 in this league. Would love him as a raven

Ideally though here is what i want

Round 1 - Dez Bryant
Round 2 - Demaryius Thomas

Get two huge wideouts for flacco and have the next Fitzgerald Boldin combo in the league. Imagine with our young offensive line, our franchise QB, our great young running game with two great wideouts like that for a very long time. We would have an amazing offense and defense aswell as ST, we would be a dynasty.

Just my 0.02

we should have picked a freakin wide out
i disagree... i mean sure, we could use a wide out but im sure you also mean with our first or second pick, those are the picks you generally look at for immediate impact.

which means we would either be missing out on Michael Oher while if im not mistaken: Willie Anderson is on the retired list, and Adam Terry is on IR

or we would be missing out on Paul Kruger, a Hybrid Linebacker that survived a stabbing and went on to lead the Utes Defense during their big run last year?

im excited about this years draft class quite frankly
yes we could have used a reciever...

but NEVER question Ozzie's ways.

Quick question
On a scale of 1-10, how good is next year's draft supposed to be?
Probably around a 9. Strong 8 at the lowest. IMO

A lot of Impressive Senors and Intriguing Juniors for the next level.

this class is going to be huge
Lots of amazing seniors and amazing juniors that will be coming out.
Very top loaded through the first 2 and a half rounds.

Way better than last years group although im very happy with a top 10 talent at 23 and a borderline 1st rounder at 57 lol

Next year though becasuse we have so much great depth at every position but wideout i say we just take receivers ith the first three picks. Maybe if Gresham falls take him otherwise trade down and jsut pick receivers. Hoepfuly we trade up and Get Bryant or Benn although signing a Brandon Marshall, Roddy White, Braylon Edwards or Vincent Jackson also excites me

Mardy Gilyard
81 passes for 1,276 yards & 11 touchdowns @ Cincinnati (last year)
6-foot, 182 pounds
He is an intriguing mid round prospect. But, I just don't think he is the type of receiver the ravens are looking for. Maybe if he was available in the 3rd round.

But, I am pretty sure that the Ravens will draft a receiver in the 1st or 2nd rd.

WR Dexter McCluster from Mississippi

I think Jameel McClain is good enough to start, but maybe after Ray leaves. Jameel will get his chance. Hes a young defensive guy, and he has proven himself.

i think we are set at linebacker

Suggs - Ellerbe - Gooden - McClain ith guys like Phillips, Barnes and Kruger in the fold

I like Gliyard and i think he could sneak into the first round

I really want us to take receivers with our first three picks. So hopefully Heap has a big year then we can trade him for some picks. We need to clean out at TE and WR. So just keep Clayton and Williams and add a Jermain Gresham or Dez Bryant in round 1 and Demaryius Thomas in round 2. Im happy this year but for flacco to be a superstar he needs some guys to throw to.

Here is my List. All of these players won't be 1st round targets, but i feel they all could help the Ravens, immediately and long term.

1. TE Jermaine Gresham, 6

No love for Eric Berry? This guy is a Ed Reed type of ballhawk and I'd love to have him on our team. But I'd be happy with Sergio Kindle or Ndamukong Suh and Spikes too.As lonbg as it's defense I'm happy. We can go Wr in the 2nd.

Berry is a top 10 if not top 5 pick, and we aren't gonna pick him even if we had the chance, we are loaded at safety

I thought this is supposed to be a wishlist, and you never know for sure who's gonna land at what point in the 1st.And if he'd fall to us I doubt ozzie would pass on him just because we have solid depth on safety.

Here's something interesting while we are talking about the 2010 draft. Yes my friends there are 2010 NFL Mock Drafts up online. Most of them have us picking between 23-28. I have also seen some odd drafts where Tim Tebow goes outside the top 5 and 10, most have a LT or Sam Bradford going # 1 overall. I have seen Cleveland be the team wit the # 1 pick, the Raiders wit the # pick, some even have Dallas picking in the top 10 next year. Here are some interesting thoughts on who the Ravens may pick next year:

Myron Lewis CB Vanderbuilt (this Mock has the same order has this years draft, meaning the Lions are # 1 and we are 26. It also has Ndamukong Suh falling to 28)

Sergio Kindle LB (This Draft order is different has we are picking 27, St Louis and Detroit swapped picks, Atlanta picking in the top 10.)

Again these are mock drafts and it is very interesting. There are many 2010 mock drafts out there those are just two interesting ones, as we are stacked at linebacker and corner as it is.

I would like for us to trade up in draft and pick Taylor Mays. Mays is the best saftey in the draft, is 6'3 and 230 lbs, and runs close to a 4.3 40 yard dash, that is ridiculus athletic ability. If you put Mays at SS next to Ed Reed at FS, that would be incredible.

For me I have got my list down to 2 players for the 1st Rd pick in next years draft:

TE Jermaine Gresham: Now that we finally have our QB in Flacco it's time to give him his new best friend for the next 10 years. Even when Mason retires and we have that reciever everyone wants, if the receivers can't get open he can throw to Gresham. I know the Ravens were interested in Brandon Pettigrew, I remember the coaches saying how he could have came in and started from day 1. We might have missed out on Pettigrew, but we can certainly get Gresham, if he falls to 32.

My second player on this list is anybody on the defensive line. I think we could move Ngata to Gregg's spot on the defensive line when Gregg retires but that leaves a hole at right end. I'm thinking Paul Kruger will replace Pryce at LE so we will need a RE or DT/NT for the future pending the situation. (Gregg Retires, we draft a DT/NT or we move Ngata to DT/NT and draft a RE.

I think its fair to say that we don't put a huge emphasis on measurables anymore. Football intelligence with hustle will get you on this team, not overhyped superathletes.

Your absolutely right. People get to excited over measurables and think thats what makes a great football player. Great 40 times don't really matter. It matters how fast they are with all the equipment on.

The most important traits when drafting players is Passion for the game, Knowledge of the game, Athleticism on tape and during position drills (body control, strength, speed, footwork etc) and overall Intelligence (to digest an NFL playbook).
