GoRavensNTerps

Future Receivers

29 posts in this topic

All three starters become free agents after this season. Plus Yamon Figurs-(RFA) and Kelly Washington. So my question is- who do we resign? And who do we go after in free agency next year? Or should we look to the draft? I'm trying to find a list of receivers in the free agent class next year. Our receiving core could look VERY different after this season...

Keep Clayton, Mason (if he wants to stay) & Williams. The rest will play itself out this year. Seems like there is a good opportunity for someone to step up.

But if one should go it has got to be Yamon Figures, does not catch well and was awful last year as a KR or PR.

This is a tough one, I think Clayton will stay. Williams' future with the Ravens depends upon what he does this season IMO. Figurs is gone next year thank god. A big question will be if Mason is only planning on playing this year or not. Given the possible pool of Free Agent receivers, I'd look at the draft first then Free Agency. IMO I would much rather the Ravens draft and develop a good young guy then possibly break the bank for one.

Oh...M...Q! You can not be realz...B-Marshall is a free agent next year?

AhHhHh, slight heart attache. I guess we all know who to pick up in free agency next year!!! LOLLLLLLLLLLL :PPPP

haha, nah I wouldn't mind if we got him as a free agent, but if we wanted him this year we could prolly get him cheap. The broncos know he only has one year left, so they know they might as well get something for him, instead of nothing (is this another brandon marshall thread...woops :P).

Um, or I would like Antonio Bryant.

i think what made this past draft so great was that we addressed depth very well
IMO this allows us to move up in the draft to grab a Dez Bryant or Arelious Benn.
Because we have such great depth every where we can afford to move a few picks to get an impact WR
I would like us to resign Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams. Trade up and draft Dez Bryant and bring in a depth guy in FA

Dez Bryant
Mark Clayton
Demetrius Williams
Marucs Smith
Justin Harper
FA

Great young group of wideouts for Our very young offense to grow with. Thats what i want to happen.

Love it, love it, love it, only I think it will be difficult to trade up from 32 to the top 15 :P ;)

i will take Vincent Jackson and a 1st or 2nd round wr to go along with him. Jackson is a beast!!! could you imagine him and Clayton as the 1-2 WRs? that would be awesome!!

i think the only one of those WRs that is a lock to stay past this year is Clayton. if Williams gets hurt again, sorry buddy, but we can't waste any more time on you. he has had every opportunity, and he has the talent, he just can't stay healthy. i don't think Figurs will make the team this year, let alone next year. we have other options now in the return game. we didn't have that to start last year.

Forget the free agents. I know some of them might be out of reach if the Ravens meet expectations this year but underclassmen receivers like Arrelious Benn and Dez Bryant Brandon come out.

IF there isnt a new CBA in place for 2010, none of those guys will become URFA. Under the rules of the uncapped year every player with less then 6 years of experience will be a RFA. So, really looking at any of those guys could be a waste because we'd not only have to give up the big contract but we'd also have to give up some high draft picks and well, if we wanted to do that we had plenty of opportunity to do it this offseason, with Boldin and Marshall. So, dont get your hopes up that we will land any of them next year.

Also, its worth noting that the same rule applies to Williams and Clayton. I think the F.O. is much more likely to keep them and then draft a wideout.

Seriously, I think we should release the entire WR crew, other than Marcus Smith and MAYBE Demetrius Williams if he plays all 16 games. Then we pick up a couple FA's and draft one or two.

As radical as it sounds, I almost completely agree. Though, I am more inclined to keep Harper depending on what him and Smith do this year. If Williams stays healthy and has a killer year, then he can stay too. Bye Mark Clayton.

Dez Bryant is going to drop from top 15 to fringe 1st round

You heard it here first

Not that I don't believe you, but why? Characters issues? A slower forty than people exepcted?

No. We have to keep Clayton.

Cutting the entire receiving corps is ludicrous. Even if they'll rarely see the field, you have to have receivers for the practice squad and just for depth.Clayton is playing for his future on this team if Flacco looks his way more this year, I don't think he'll disappoint. Williams is playing for his NFL career. Harper is making waves and Smith has a lot to prove. After that, the other guys are simply practice squad fodder.

who cares if he is a free agent next year. yea he is a big physical receiver but he constantly leads the league is dropped passes. That's the last thing the ravens would need is a receiver who cant hold on to the ball.

Yeah we tried a high draft-pick WR who couldn't catch the ball (Travis Taylor anyone?) and that didn't work out so well.

I were to think Mason would retire. I would keep Clayton, and Demeterius. Then in FA, if Brandon Marshall were available then I would get him. Him or Roddy White if available. If I couldn't get those guys, then I would trade up to get Dez Bryant in the 2010 draft.

Dez Bryant may very well be a Top 10 pick. I'm hoping we do very well this season, so the chances of getting him would be like the chance we had this year of getting Michael Crabtree.

Roddy White would be a good pick up, but I recently watched on ESPN that he wants Larry Fitzgerald money.
