The Head Coach As Agent

Even though this article doesn't specifically pertain to the Ravens, I figured that, with the recent flurry of contract activity ranging from veterans (Terrell Suggs) to rookies (Michael Oher) alike, this was something interesting for all of you to consider:

No doubt about it.... Head coaches have a lot of sway when it comes to roster moves, whether bringing in Free Agents or getting draft picks signed. Besides, Ozzie knows that the Oher selection was with Joe in mind and if Oher isn't out there getting all the reps with the ones, then it will impede Joe's and Oher's development.

I think with Oher, the Ravens and the agent knew that the most important thing was to get him there by Friday. So they probably took the extra couple of days to make sure the deal was good for everyone. As Ozzie said, Oher got a "Raven Deal".

In other words, it's good for all parties involved.

It was imperative for Oher to get out there and get the reps, if he wants to be the everday starter. He also seems like the guy who knows he has more to learn, and wants to learn more. Very happy he is taken care of and out on the field.
