Willis Mcgahee

31 posts in this topic

For all the great things I've heard, seen, and read about Willis McGahee, nobody talks about how great he is at throwing the stiff arm. There was that one run he had against the Browns, where he stiff armed two defenders before reversing field and outrunning all the defenders for a 20 yard gain that started out as a loss. I saw a couple more pretty good ones last week as well. Has anyone else noticed this?

I guess since I didn't follow him too closely before, I never noticed it. Becuase in my world, anyone who doesn't play for the Ravens obviously isn't good enough to pay any attention to.

He also has great patience and speed.

He waits for holes to open up, then exploits them. Even if there's nothing there, he makes something.

I'm SO glad Jamal is gone.

oh yes his "nasty" stiff arm....that thing packs a powerful punch to any defender that meets it.....i've heard some of the analysts on NFL network, and a few other sports places before the start of the season, talk about McGahee's ability to "break away" from defenders and they described him as a powerful speedster with one heck of a stiff arm....that has come in handy for him while picking up those extra yards hehe

I don't even think a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick could withstand the force of a McGahee stiff arm.

Hey, I'm a rookie now.

thats like saying.... "Chuck Take a SEAT! you just got served a helping of McGahee....Stiff arm style" (with him dazed and confused on the ground......kinda like Terry Tate Office Line backer..but in McGahee form hehe)

McGahee is able to use his stiff arm effectively because the offensie line does a great job of getting to the second level. When McGahee breaks through the line to the second level, LBs are being block or fighting off blocks so they can't square up on McGahee. Once he gets pass the second level and cuts to the outside the defense has to take a angle to him and that allow him to throw that stiff arm. I look for McGahee to start break off longer runs as the season goes on.

you mustve missed the couple posts where i was ranting about this as well....I even talked about that same exact play lol. McGahee is definately getting comfortable with the stiff-arm as he's been using it more often. the first few games I think he was still getting used to the oline so he was mroe conservative, but since he seems more comfortable he can do his thing and make plays. that's certainly all I've seen him do since the regular season started. I'm looking forward to him improving further and opening things up for the offense. Once we're healthy I am 100% positive (i don't care, hold me to it if you want) that when our team is healthy, and our QB controversy is over with, that the Ravens WILL make the playoffs and give every other team in the league a run for their money.

there is no doubt in my mind that we'll make a play off run....we have the talent and we KNOW we have the talent...all we have to do is learn how to execute so that we can score when we're inside the redzone....scoring meaning...getting those Touchdowns and not as many field goals......yea field goals are all fine and dandy but Touchdowns are like a safety net for you to fall on and gives you alot better security knowing you scored a TD rather than a field goal, you'll feel ALOT better about yourself

There's no better feeling than knowing your opponent has to score more than one TD to at least tie the game. It's pretty hard (but not impossible ) to do that kicking a bunch of field goals.

yea, its much much harder for an opponent to score at least 2 touchdowns just to tie the game up and give them a chance. Our offense is getting the job done...in the fact that they're moving the ball up and down the field whenever our offense is on the field....But the area in which our offense has struggled as of late, is inside the 10 yard line (most of the time)...its not so much when we get in the red zone...because we get there just fine....but its rather the last 5 to 10 yards to go in order to reach the Endzone and put 6 points on the board instead of just 3. Thats the Area of our offense in which i feel, we have been practicing very HARD and have spent, not only maybe a few practice series, But countless hours, of going over and praticing different options we have to go with in that situation inside the red zone because both Coaches and Players know for a fact that we cant win with just field goals.....some games yes but overall, no its just not "logical" and not apart of the Ravens "Way".....i feel as though our offense will the time and effort spent in this weeks practice, will show significant improvement in the red zone offense....plus the addition of our offensive playmaker Todd Heap..should add another demension to our offense in which we never had with him being out last week

McGahee definitly has one of the best stiff arms i've seen in the league

Willis is good, you will soon see that this guy dances just like lewis...and cant seem to find the endzone. I am a huge fan of miami hurricanes football, and the bills....one thing i noticed is that he can get VERY lazy, takes to many plays for a loss, and cant find the endzone. He has talent...just not what he was billed to be comin out the U. Good luck with him....i have seen lynch run for 3 tds all over 10 yards a pop...he runs hard and has speed...i dont miss willis, and i was fired up when they ditched him. He can get the yards, but points are not easy for him.

lol well if that was the case ,the fact that he "dances around in the backfield for too long, and ends up being tackled for a big loss of yards....i sure havent seen it....i mean all the plays i've seen McGahee make end up with positive yardage for us, plus the few plays that he was tackled in the back field for a loss.....it for sure wasnt for a Loss like 10-15 yards, more like 1-2 yard variety......plus if you saw in the game last week, and on a few other plays in previous games, when McGahee was handed the ball....and he was running to the outside....and it looked as though he was gonna get tackled for a loss of about 8-10 yards or so, THEN he suddenly changed direction, and changed his field of vision and ran to the other side of the field and turned on the speed, for a first down or 7-8 yard gain......thats the McGahee i've seen.....always ends up (for the most part) in POSITIVE yardage for us in the end

Against the rams the offensive line sucked, so I understand some negative plays.

Not too bad for McGahee considering he had only 14 carries against us. Not sure if he's had any other games where he hasn't had many carries or not.

Off topic, but:

Hey, your Browns are a .500 team!

They put a whooping up on the Dolphins.

I'm all for the Browns winning, as along as it doesn't mean the Ravens losing.

I only root for the Browns when they're playing other AFC North teams, and only when that team has a better record.

To keep this on topic...McGahee's awesome!
