Ravens Release Kicker Lloyd

12 posts in this topic

AHHHH!!! thats my thought.

I understand the move...apparently our receivers are pretty bangd up so we need some extra help but still I'm mad we just lost Lloyd. With his preseason performance I can see him getting picked up relatively soon by another team, which leaves us with an aging stover (good for maybe this year and maybe 1-2 after imo). oh well, thats the NFl for ya, it's a business

you know someone will snap him up, he's very accurate from a long distance,

and I wish we wouldn't let good players leave for no reason, they should

have cut Brian Billick instead...........easily replaceable

Picking up a kicker is ALOT easier then picking up a good QB or WR, Rhys was all impressive with his kicks in PRESEASON, but most kickers in the leage avg about the same stats on kickoffs, 90% are the same, 5% better, and 5% worse then avg.

This is Lloyds 3rd year playing and he hasnt played in an NFL game yet, cut twice by us, and once by green bay. He played in NFL Europe this summer. Teams just dont waste roster spots on kickers since if someone goes down they know there is someone just like him from college waiting to go.

Rhys Lloyd could consistently kick the ball into the endzone for touchbacks, which is something Stover (and most other NFL kickers) can't do. In this game, field position is essential. Lloyd was worth keeping around, and I think he should have been on the active roster.

agreed, Stover will only be golden for so long

well i think they made (i think) the right choice, i mean, i agree, Kickers will always be ALOT easier than picking up a GOOD QB, RB, or WR or something like that, we needed more players at the WR position to due to injury issues and we now have a little more depth at the position

just read an article about the Ravens Releasing Lloyd and signing a WR to the Practice squad

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/bal-rav...0,1226801.story

thoughts?

my thoughts are as previously stated, the Ravens tend to put people on the

roster that they obviously think they have a need for (ie: Derek Anderson)

and then for some mysterious reason, they cut them or try to sneak them

through the waiver wire and lose them to some other team and it comes

back to haunt them. Rhys Lloyd has a remarkable talent of being able

to kick 55 to 60 yeard field goals and with Matt Stover in the twilight of

his career, the thought here was that Mr. Lloyd would be a suitable replacement.

SO, what was the intelligent thinking to let him go? Don't tell me you needed

another receiver, you have plenty of those already (albeit some are classic

underacheivers like Devard Darling!!) and the kicker would have been a better

keeper. But, far be it from me to try to out think those "brilliant" minds

at Owings Mills. We all know that no one can ever question Mr. Billick

because according to his thinking, we are all just ignorant fans that know

nothing at all and we are just good for one thing, spending our hard earned

dollars to buy tickets so he can draw his enormous salary. If they don't

beat the 49er's today, he should start cleaning up his resume deleting

the part that states he is an "offensive guru!"

I guess its a move they had to do. Its to bad we couldnt stay healthy so we could keep a kicker like Lloyd around. He has one hell of a leg, and is accurate also. He kicked a 46 and 53 yarder in preseason, and had another 10 yards in distance on the 53 yarder. I understand the move tho. we are banged up everywhere. Its hard to juggle a roster when you have this many injuries.

I knew we weren't going to keep him. Bad, bad move on the Ravens part. Lloyd looked promising for us in the future. Who knows about this WR, but who cares, he is probably not going to play much, when we could have used Lloyd, especially with our field goal offense.

I'm pissed.
