About Mr. Smokey Stover

25 posts in this topic

Does anyone else other then myself feel his leg is pretty much wearing out. After the last game against the BROWNS and 2 easy usually FG's FOR STOVER were missed that was showing me right there. I wouldn't have started this topic if he had just missed 1 but 2 in the same game in the 40's which is his best kicking yards I wonder if this should be his last year. And if he is willing to keep playing maybe the Ravens should look on just letting him go. I mean he is getting into his 50's before you know it.

How does the rest of you feel on Matt? I know its hard to even say this or think about it because he has been so clutch for us for so many years and years but you cant think about that, you have to think about now and about our team not be selfish for Matt and realize his leg is just weakening. Everyones day comes to an end in the NFL just have to face it and move on. HECK the guy is #2 of all time I believe in FG's I think he should settle with that after this year and call it quits, spend time with his family take them on vacations enjoy life, he is still young enough to do that!!. I am sure he will be in the HALL of Fame also.

Matt just had a bad game. The misses weren't to do with leg strength, but direction. His rhythm was off and, like with a golf swing, sometimes when it's off it's tough to get back. If you remember back to the opener in 2005 against Indy, he missed 3 FG's and came right back and was back to his old self the following week.

I'm sure Stover will have worked extra hard this week correcting the error and will be back to his old self this weekend. He's still one of the best in the league inside 50 yards and I'm not concerned about him at this point.

Stover said in an Post-game interview that the First bad one was due to a Mis-snap and mishandling of the ball, the other was the wind (not positive but pretty sure thats what he said)

Geesh, the guy actually misses 2 field goals in a game and he's all worn out. lol

How about Ray missing tackles, Reed allowing big completions, C-Mac completely blowing up on plays...are they all washed up too?

IMO, Stover is and will always be this team's MVP.

This Reed 4 Prez guy is by far the stupidest poster here

probably more so than the rivals that come in

He's trashed (among others) Kyle Boller, Brian Billick Steve McNair, Matt Stover, and JO

and then praised them within the same week

I gotta agree, alot of people on this team is making mistakes. but to trash them doesnt help a damn thing. Stover is what keeps this team together, we would be nowhere without Stover. He had some problems in the last 2 games. Kickoffs in the Jets game, and missing fieldgoals against CLE. But stover is stover, he will bounce back quickly. I have all the faith in the world with Stove diddy.

im not too sure on saying that he is the guy who keeps the team together... i mean Ray Lewis has that identity for the Defense and i think McNair is the offensive leader, plus we have a great kicker to back him up if need be (strong, powerful leg with the accuracy to go along with it)....55 yard field goal in the pre-season that would've been good from 60-65 yards easy......so i think that Stove is a Key component to this team, and can get us out of the clutch moment, not the guy who holds the entire team together lol

It will be a sad, sad day when Matt Stover retires. If anyone on this team deserves a pass its Matt Stover. Thats how I knew the Ravens did not have a snowball chance in you know where of winning against the Browns-- all 3 phases of the game were imploding.

Man i dont even wanna think about the day stover retires :( lol. He has always been so consistant, so automatic. I also think his problems in CLE, alot of that was the Browns field. Its so patchy and horrible, and when i looked closely at one of stovers field goals, i looked at where he had to put his plant foot. It was a patch of mud with like.... 2 blades of grass :(. I hope we atleast have stover for another 2-3 years atleast. I like what i see out of Rys Lloyd tho. I hope we can get healthy so we can bring him back to the 45 man roster and get him to kickoff some. He has an amazing leg.

Yeah I hate to think of how pissed the fans are gonna get if Rhys doesn't prove out haha. However, I feel like once we cut down on our injured list we'll see him coming in for kickoffs and long fg's

If you go back to the game thread after the week one loss to the Bengals, Reed 4 President was saying how he was done with football for the year and the Ravens were not worth his time. I called him out for hoping off the wagon and he trashed me for an hour eventually asking for my adress to come teach me a lesson...hah; of course he promptly came back the next week after the win over New York. I don't mean to conintue to sidetrack the boards but Reed, if you don't have anything productive or useful to say then don't say anything at all.

Stover has been PHENOMENAL for us forever, he missed what, 3 times last year? He had a bad game along with the rest of the team and will get back on track soon enough, we really don't have anything to fall back on, I still think that Lloyd needs a year more to develop his accuracy. Stover's kicks did not miss because his power wasn't there, they did not go in because they sailed left and right. Watch a bit more closely next time.

If your going to trash talk or try to. Simply go to another forum that allows "TRASH TALKING" as it isn't allowed here, I tryed to ask for a Smack Talk Section and was denied so its a rule no trash talking and you guy's are basically doing that in a way. I am sick of a few of you guy's trying to stir up things with false talk and made up things.. I don't know what your so Jealous about but get over it. I am a fellow Raven fan as you, if your going to spend your time in this THREAD with a few others trying to TRASH talk me leave.. we are all here to have fun and root for the RAVENS not bring up something someone said a month ago and try and make him look bad like a little middle schooler and start rumors and point fingers. Also when most of everything said is not true or over-exaggerated. If you don't like me I do not like you and I will ignore you but I wont bring up your names in post's its not worth my time I am hear to talk about football not what other people said or say! to try and get me all worked up by starting trouble. So if you wanna continue trying to start things with me this MB isn't about that, it is about FOOTBALL not trying to trash other people for something they may have thought and took back on a discussion or what the deal is if thats what you want to do go somewhere else I am sure a MOD can vouch to that.

THIS IS FOR RAVENS FANS & Visiting teams FANS AND FOOTBALL TALK NOT TRYING TO TALK ABOUT OTHERS thoughts or OPINIONS AND TRY TO START FIGHTS THANKS. Guess if I have to I will just IGNORE YOU I have plenty of buds on here the few of you that want to start trouble keep on trying if a MOD doesn't do anything about it fine but I wont be reading it so waste your time it will be easier for me to just iggy you.

I noticed the two out of three of you are 16 and 17 years old that explains A LOT. TO you two didn't your parents ever teach you manors to respect your elders? SHEEESH todays YOUTH.

More importantly Reed.....do you still think his leg is tired after yesterday? I think we can officially chalk up the browns game as a rare "bad game" for Stover. I wouldn't want anyone else back there in the clutch!

As I said before my opinion is my opinion. I still feel his leg strength isn't as strong as it has been the past few years. I never said he isn't accurate he usually is, i just have my own opinion I guess and I don't understand why I am not allowed it?. I get bashed for my opinion and I am sure someone will say something smart again after this post and I feel its uncalled for and a MOD should say something to whomever it is i am entitled to my opinion and thats that comes with being an American and the rules for this MB never said someone cannot have their own opinion.

I feel it is close to time in the next year or 2 to start looking at rookie's to take his place within the next 1-2 years. He can be money all year I just feel he is getting old he needs to maybe let the GAME go soon and spend more family time take vacations etc. Would be a shame when the time comes I do like the GUY A LOT but everything comes to an end eventually. He is an MVP to our TEAM NO DOUBT!! & always WILL BE!! and i will miss the guy when it does happen.

well, the man is 38 years old and has been using that leg for a long time, eventually all good

thing must end. I know him personally (use to attend my church) and he and his wife are

wonderful Christian people with a great outlook on life. Sooner or later we will need to

look for someone else but for the present he is still almost automatic, but everyone does

have a bad game occasionally. You are probably too young to remember, but Lou Groza

(old time Browns kicker) kicked until he was 46 and was not a soccer style but a straight

on kicker.

Think about how many games in the last 3 years we would have lost had it not

been for Matt Stover. A good place kicker is worth his weight in gold,

and he is almost automatic but does have an off week once in a while,

I mean afterall he is only human like the rest of us. Cut him some slack please!!

Isn't it funny... a week later, all of the above still happening EXCEPT Stover kicks 3 through the uprights.

When is Reed_4_Pres going to start bashing Ray? I have been seeing Ray miss a lot of tackles this year...A LOT.

The term "ice the kicker" does not apply to Matt. Going to be weird when there is three seconds left in the fourth quarter and our new kicker will miss it.

It's not the fact that he is bashing people, the reason I get upset is because he is so wrong. He told everyone very extravagantly that he was leaving after week one, and returned immediately after we beat the Jets. He calls out Stover for leg strength problems when Matt didn't even miss the field goal tries in Cleveland because of distance, they were accuracy problems which he claims he has faith in Stover for. Reed4President kind of reminds me of the annoying commentator from ESPN who only follows the Patriots and Cowboys but decides to make a single comment every other month about teams like the Ravens and says something really off that others buy into because they, like him, did not watch the game.

yea it will be kinda weird having a different kicker out there instead of Matt, but i dont think he'll just up and leave, i think that he'll stay and mentor the kicker into the "proper" way...aka the "winning way" lol
