Your first Ravens game

36 posts in this topic

What was the first Ravens game you watched? The first Ravens game you attended? How was it? What made you come back for more?

For me, the first game I truly sat down and watched was the AFC Divisional game against the Tennessee Titans back in 2000, en route to our first Super Bowl trophy.

However, seeing as how I wasn't a major football fan back then, I only had a mild interest. But that defense amazed me and kept me watching, and sure enough, I lucked out when I had them pegged as Super Bowl Champions that year...

...despite not watching all of that game. Which I've come to regret.

Ironically, I didn't become a fan until much later, when the Ravens won the 2003 AFC North title. Ray Lewis was obviously one of the main factors in assimilating myself into the purple-and-black, and again, it was that defense that kept me addicted ever since.

As for the first game I attended, it was during the 2004 season, when we faced the Buffalo Bills at home. I witnessed Deion Sanders' final interception return for a TD in his career that day, and even though it was pretty much a lock that we would win that game, it was still something I'll never forget. The ground shaking beneath me as I stood in the nosebleed section all the way up top...the sound of thousands of people chanting "DE-FENSE"...the roar of the crowd as Ray Lewis came out to do his introductory dance, smoke and all...just entrancing, to say the least.

September 1st, 1996, the 19-14 win over the Oakland Raiders - I still have a VCR tape somewhere. Preceded by two exhibition games against Green Bay and ??? (One of which attracted a massive but brief rainstorm to cool the crowd).

Since then, I have attended every Ravens home game except 1 each preseason, regular season, and playoff games. Excused absences (illness or unavoidable travel). Plus over twenty road games.

I was brought up on the Baltimore Colts, and held season tickets during the Bert Jones era. Also a Stallions season ticket holder.

1998 against the Vikings--they guys I was with thought we were going to get slaughtered then Jermaine Lewis started playing run back we lost 38-28, but after that game I gave my husband the OK to buy PSL's. Since the 1996 season our friends had been trying to give up to my alliance to the team that plays in Landover, going to the game sealed the deal.

I believe the first RAVENS game I watched on TV was the very first regular season game against the Oakland Raiders in 1996. I didn't see any of the pre-season games that season.

My first RAVENS game that I went to, was the same year when we played the Steelers at home at Memorial Stadium.

The first Ravens game I went to was the Pre-Season game against the Philadelphia Eagles in 1996 in Memorial Stadium which I remembered was a Ravens victory. I went to the regular season opener against the Raiders and remember Vinnie Testevede scoring the first touchdown in Ravens history. I sat for both games in the open endzone bleachers.

The first Ravens game I ever went to was the home opener in 96 against the Oakland Raiders. I try to get to as many games as I can. Usually one game a year. My favorite game I attended was the 2000 home playoff game against the Denver Broncos. One of the greatest moments in my life. Who would have know that our Ravens would destroy the Broncos and go on to capture their first Lombardi trophy.

The first Raven game I attended was the last home game of the 1998 season vs the Lions....notable due to the fact that it was the last sighting of Barry Sanders in an NFL uniform....Sanders had like 41 yards and lost a fumble...it was also notable since it was the start of a long streak for the Ravens in not giving up a 100 yd rusher.

That was the game where I walked in still a Cowboys fan primarily...and walked out with a severe dose of Purple fever....and became a Ravens PSL owner a few years afterwards. B)

Sad how I haven't been able to go to another game since my first one...

I really wanted to go to that playoff game against the Colts, but tickets were too expensive by the time I got the OK to get 'em...

Plus, as stupid as this sounds, I'm disappointed I missed out on seeing Ray Lewis' intro live. I mean, yes, he did the dance at the game I went to, and I saw the video playing on the screen and all, but I couldn't see past a bunch of fans and all the smoke and whatnot...I mean, he's my favorite player, and I consider it almost blasphemy to have not actually witnessed the dance live...

My first Regular Season game I attended was in 2003, when my dad got season tickets. The first game, it was like a omen, Jamal broke the record. It was quite cool. But now he is a Brown, the same team he broke the record against.

I went to the second home game for the Ravens, September 29th 1996, against the New Orleans Saints. The Ravens won the game 17 - 10. I got the seats free from a friend. It was the first time I had been back to Memorial Stadium since the last game the Os played there. I've managed to attend at least two home games since then without ever having had to pay for a seat. (I've got good friends with great connections B) )

I have not yet missed a game. So far I've managed to be AT every home game and to have caught at least half of every road game on TV or in person. I'm an addict.

My frist game was when the Ravens played KC and Ray Lewis made Bam Morris regret trying to leap over a few guys on the ground. After that play Ray Lewis could do no wrong with me lol

I had been a Cowboys fan forever but in 1999 I went to a game and fell in love with our home team. I got my PSL's in 2004 and now my favorite place in the world is section 109.

*sigh* PSL's = something I can only dream of...

The ticket stub and program sold for like $20-$50 a few years ago, but nowadays not much demand for them. Ebay shows one program for sale for $8, ive seen tickets for sale at card shops before but dont think they run that much.

My first game was the first game they ever played, the preseason game vs the eagles. A friend of my now wife called us and invited us to go. Then that week a friend of mine got a new job and i bought his season ticket. Ive seen every single regular season home game since 1996 except for 2 and Ive been to 5 away games.

I have yet to go to a live Ravens game (being on the other side of the country makes it kinda hard), but I do hope to see them when they play the Chargers out here this season.

As to when I became a Ravens fan, I guess it was about two years ago and I made a player in Madden for Superstar and I was drafted by the Ravens. After that I started looking at the Ravens as a team and after seeing part of a game on TV I was offically hooked. I also credit the Ravens with really getting me into football, before I found them I was really that interested (makes it a whole lot more interesting when you have a team you care about, whether they're on the other side of the country or not.) ;)
