Mckinney Gained 40 Pounds?

28 posts in this topic

I was checking out the roster and DT McKinney actually gained almost 40 pounds. Last year he was listed at 324 lbs and now he's at 360 lbs.
Ngata didn't change (345), DT Talavou now weighs 350 (+10 lbs). That's gotta be the heaviest D-Line in football. Mattison's son, Bryan, gained 23 lbs (now 295). Gaither went up from 330 to 340, not sure if there's a larger player in the league (6'9, 340). That's actually what JO's size was i think, 5 pounds lighter maybe.

Troy Smith gained 10 pounds (from 215 to 225), Landry lost 10 pounds (down to 210). Chris Chester gained 10 pounds (315) which is a good thing i'd imagine if he wants to play guard in this league.

Flacco gained 5 pounds (235), Demetrius gained almost 10 pounds (202), Zbikowski lost 5 pounds (210), Figurs gained 5 pounds (185).

It's good to see that Demetrius has gained weight. If he can just stay healthy, the receiving corps could be a serious threat.

I wonder if Troy is still has the same speed like last year, with those extra ten pounds.

360? Talk about a clog in the middle.

Or his Artery.

He gained 15 pounds. He said it himself in his interview. Plus he didn't lose any speed. :o

Demetrius looks like a walking muscle , I hope the added muscle protects his joints. I think he can be special if he can stay healthy.

I'm excited to see how Landry does coming back from his injury. Glad to see he is in good shape and a little leaner. People forget that in roughly 1 and 1/2 games last year, I believe he had over 20 tackles.

Me too, as he was such an integral part of our offense last year :)

If he lost a step or two, he'll even do less for us this year.....

That's a big boy. I like our depth at D tackle, I'm still a little concerned about our edge rusher depth.

This is pre-training camp. Expect those scales to be lighter when the season gets under way. For that fat guys it will be really hard to maintain the added weight.

Well getting chubbier isn't exactly a great thing. Putting MUSCLE on is a good thing, but to come in to training camp and have gained 20 pounds of fat by eating Twinkies during the summer...then its a doozy.

Muscle makes them stronger, fat makes them...well its a given what it makes them. Everyone can be screaming, oh well look so and so added 15 pounds, he is going to be a stud this year! While we don't know what kind of pounds they are and if its beneficiary or not.

Being Bigger aint better in my book. I like it when someone is lean, and its better that way in the NFL. With these big ol linemen, being lean you can maneuver around many players in the NFL and make harder hits while your muscle is being concentrated on the hit and can absorb it while Fat slows you down and causes more pain.

This is the guy I hope that comes back and play like his old self ! He has had plenty of time to sit on the sideline and get a better feel of whats expected of him as far as being a even better SS for the Ravens . IMO he is definitely the X Factor for the Ravens D this year !

Damn. You got it before me :P

360lb is all fat, look at how much water he holds. His stomach is going to protrude under his jersey. Also Landry could probably play better at 210lb with a bit more speed.

Oher is very lean for a RT, I think his motor is pretty good and actually has some good feet. I think he will be a monster for us.

Yea, I'D like for an RT to carry more then 309lbs. He will get bigger as the years progress though.

Well, bigger is better for a 3-4 lineman. It's harder to move a 360 pound man than it is a 320 pound man. Basic physics. I would imagine of the 40 pounds, he would have gained at most 5 pounds of muscle, but at 360 he's going to be stronger and most importantly more difficult to move. Plus the sheer size addition means he's going to clog more of the running lane.
You don't have to give the certain drop off in speed a second thought; he's a defensive tackle. If he has to move more than 5 yards it hasn't been a good play for us.

Yeah, clogging lanes and invoking the GOOSE is fine...but he still has to be able to move and rush the passer

Well, he was hardly Bruce Smith to begin with...

... as long as it's mostly muscle and not fat lol

A 320 pound football player did not gain 20 pounds of muscle in one offseason. I'll tell you that for nothing.

Oher dropped down to 309lb to improve his combine numbers, he looked his best at around 325-340lb.

McKinney is a nice prospect. Don't go to sleep on him.
